Sounds like a decent price to me. I'll get back to you on it when I book a flight sometime this weekend.
-
As a matter of fact I might take you on this offer. Details on the room before I book my flight?

He's about 100. Happy birthday, David. I only get to post this smiley once a year. Here's to another year of awesomeness .

wip Legend of Zeal -- Corridors of Time Remix
Gario replied to Trinity Dragon's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Alright, here's my feedback. Listen to the source and see how well your track lines up with what's going on in it. I understand there are some artistic flourishes in there (e.g. stuff you added for spice), and that is appreciated. However, there are also parts that don't seem to mesh very well with the source. I find the better part of this track is the second half, so look through it and see if you can fix the sour sections a bit. The MIDI presentation is rather annoying, but I'll deal with it. I would suggest some plugins or Vsts, though - doesn't Finale accept them? I know Sibelius does. It might help make any tack easier to listen to. GM is hard for most listeners to get around. Hopefully that helps a little bit - once I got past the first half and could ignore the midi-ness of it the track wasn't bad at all. There's quite a bit of cool things present in this track, so do your best to clean up the less pleasant sections in the beginning so people can get to them. -
I love you.

I love the steel string work in this track. It just sounds so... steel-y. The rest of the instrumentation is fitting for the genre. Be careful with that piano that plays the melody, though - it's too quiet, and in the middle of the track (~1:52) it seems to get out of time significantly. It's pretty central to the track, so bring it to the front a bit more, and don't pan it too far to the left. Some of the harmonic interpretations aren't too convincing in my book, but that might just be personal taste. They aren't bad, per se, but a bit boring. It just sounds like you use the root chord too often when the original spiced it up with plenty of interesting applied chords. A proper ending would do this track wonders. The fade out feels like a cop-out. Let's have a nice, solid ending to the track As I said before, the instrumentation is very fitting. It seems to wash over me after a while, though - five minutes with the instruments doing the same thing is exhausting to my ear. I for one would love, for example, to hear the guitar take control of the melody once or twice, or have a nice solo with the piano without drums and guitar, or something to change it up. You break it up texturally from time to time, which is great, but it needs more. The drums are pretty weak. I'm not asking for D&B or anything, but a simple boom-chick beat is very lackluster. Don't be afraid to use hats or fills, or something. I love it, actually. I could see something like this becoming a healthy part of OCR in the (relatively) near future, but I think it has some touch up that needs to be done before it can get on there. Hope to hear more from you - this is some great stuff.

The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
Gario replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
Not here, for sure. Though you'd certainly generate interest in the WIP board here, and there are other sites to submit to (R:TS and/or OLRemix.org might accept it). It sounds like an interesting and fun idea, though. -
Oh shit, we've got some Deus Ex. I'm in. I've been in a bit of a slump since I changed up my DAW a tad, since it feels very foreign to me. This might just be the pick-me-up that I need.

I know, I know - I apologize. I'll have it cleared out before today is over. I'm in touch with a bunch of people right now, so it fills up much faster than it ever has before. Just not used to the pacing! Yeah, I'll get back to you when it's cleared out. Sorry about that.

Y'know, I could've swore I sent in the tracks twice and the writeups at least once. I'll send in another set though in a bit. I've also given the policy statements before, I'm sure, but... well, that might've been for another project. If they need to be in response to a specific form then please send them again. I know that all my tracks I sent in were mastered, so if it's a matter of you not having them then... well, that'd suck. If you have a WAV of my track then it's the mastered version (as mastered as it's getting - I went over it once already for this and don't want to revisit it a second time). I will send Dyne everything in the list again, though, so I suppose this is a non-issue.

Let's see... it sounds like some simple harmonies, to me. It's in Eb Major and this is the roman numeral analysis of the chord structure. (V)- I (EbM)-IV (AbM)-ii (fm)-VII (DdM)(Primare Mixture)-V (BbM)-I (EbM)... (only got up to ~0:40, 'cause I don't have the time for the full analysis atm). The 7ths & 9ths are simple decorations, as well as the chromatic passing notes (there are no real augmented chords in this song that I hear - it all sounds like passing notes to me). Hopefully that gives someone a springboard to analyse the track in it's entirety.

What the hell? This vid has 302 views and over 10k likes/dislikes. Is that even possible?

Harmony of a Hunter - The Metroid 25th Anniversary album
Gario replied to Darren1986's topic in General Discussion
Wow, man, it seems like you really pulled it off. I'm kind of excited to hear the result. August 7th, eh? Awesome . -
So by the looks of it I need to save up 'bout 450$ for the trip, plus getting a room... (shit, living expenses are a pain in the ass right now) Fuck it, I'm going for it, if at all possible.

He gave me the heads up already, so I'm holding the track until Bahamut gets back, when I will discuss it with him. It wouldn't be an issue at all except Bahamut is the only one with the WIP... Coming from Neko, though, it's probably pretty good. Thanks for the heads up, though.

I really, really, really, really, really want to go. I really do. ... I might register in a bit, if I possibly can.

Oh oops. I lumped you together. My bad.

Simply contacting me and explaining your situation(s) would've prevented me from placing anyone in this situation in most cases, you know - hence why there are still people who are red or green that still have special claims. I know people might still want to do a track very much, or still feel the passion for a particular track, but unless the person makes contact with me via PM or AIM and organizes something with me then I have no choice but to assume that the person isn't interested in the project anymore. I hope you understand that there's no way I can make assumptions about people on this project. I can hold the two tracks in question until the next deadline (in September), but in all honesty this is a project that's two years in the making. I understand the pressures of participating in many projects (and in Mono's case, taking more than one track for this project), but it's been a very long time since most of these claims have been made. It's not fair to those that have worked hard to make deadlines to arbitrarily hold tracks, anymore. And in all honesty, I'm not cutting a single person from this project. I'm telling people that haven't sent in anything six months to two years after they've claimed their track that if someone takes more initiative to those tracks than they do then I will relinquish their stake on the tracks (and these initiatives must be close to the OCR bar). At the rate this project has been going I don't see that happening any time soon, so I wouldn't worry about losing your places. It's tough, but that's the way it is. I'd really like to start getting some results for Bahamut with this project for when he gets back, and the deadlines help push people to work hard on their music. There are a few people that have really rose to the challenge, and I appreciate it greatly. EDIT: By the way Darangen, are you still working with Ergosonic?

Another great mix from you. I'll second that there's some cleaning up that needs to be done to the vocals, since they don't seem to line up with the beat too well. It's like you line up the sound exactly at where it starts, but with vocal stuff it makes more sense to line up the beginning of the vowels to the beat - lining up the consonants make the vocal beats seem off. I'd also like to see some more mechanical splicing of the vocal lines. I mean, you're going with the robo vocals, here - you best go all the way with it. Admittedly, it doesn't sound too much like the source, to me. You should get a second opinion, but I think it's a touch liberal for the site. Maybe I need to give it another listen... It's a neat idea for a classic track. Let's see some updaaaates

Interest in hardstyle/hardcore? Is it even submittable?
Gario replied to kingpiano's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Just post your track in the WIP forums and people can help you there. Theoretically I don't think there's a genre bias when it comes to the actual judging process - it just needs to be up to production speed and incorporate the source in a significant fashion without sounding exactly like the source. But... yeah, just post in the WIP forum - that's what it's there for. BTW, I like the cheesy word/lyric incorporation in both tracks. That's probably just me, though. If you're gonna go posting songs in a thread, at least make sure there's a video of a in there. -
Be sure to keep the beginning of that OCR track, for best effect. Also, congratulations

Eight Bit Strange Final Bit Released!
Gario replied to Omni-Psyence's topic in Post Your Original Music!
That was awesome. Very nice work integrating so many themes to the style of MGS. You got me laughing with the ship, though - brilliant crossover. Great work to the whole team (and especially to you for the music, since... you know, it's the music, and this is a VG music site, and... yeah). -
Great Accomplishments in Gaming: get your brag on
Gario replied to ectogemia's topic in General Discussion
No, I'm not that awesome. -
If you want to make a claim, make a decent WIP. Then it'll be your track. I won't be accepting claims otherwise, though, so if someone else produces then they'll get the track. Geoffrey had a similar system in place for the Donkey Kong project, so it's not unheard of.
