OCR02490 - *YES* Shadowrun 'Running the Cyberpunks'
WillRock replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Gotta say, I like the drums. Hard hitting. Samples feel ever so slightly generic to me, but there is some neat sound design going on. I feel like the arrangement drags on way too long here. There is development of sorts, but its too slow, and the additive structure doesn't lend well to reducing melodic repetition for the most part. This could work if the track was cut down. There is little in the means of variation, which there could have easily been more of at this length. If I was you, i'd cut down the fat of this arrangement, add some more variation to the theme, and then maybe you'd have a better chance of getting posted. Also, the mastering didn't seem to quite jell with me, it lacked a high end crispness that is needed for this sort of track, which made things feel murky. Its good attempt but I can't sign off on it due to arrangement concerns. Keep working at it! NO (resub) -
*NO* Guilty Gear XX 'Be Jazz or Be Dead' *RESUB*
WillRock replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
I'm loving the arrangement on this one. Awesome style adaption that I can dig. The performances need alot of work however. Like OA said, things were very shaky overall. This sounded very clean to me, perhaps too much so, to the point of sounding slightly empty. There is room to add some more backing instrumentation without causing muddiness. My one other critique is that the guitar tuning was slightly off at points, but this wasn't a deal breaking issue. That said, the performance is just too sloppy for me to sign off on this one. Fix up the frequency gap in your mix, tighten up the performance, and fix up that out of tune guitar, and you've got yourself a winner! NO (resub) -
OCR UK Panel at Alcon Sept 6th - 9th – De Montfort Uni

Tis is going to be completely epic and stuff -
Angel is a musician. I don't think "not being able to do it" applies if the potential is there. If you're an actor, for example, you should probably say no (lol) but if you are in any stretch capable of doing this, then you should try it. I don't think we're being very constructive right now arguing if "you're qualified for the job". We should be passed that point - do you think they would hire you if they didn't think you were up to the job? Have some faith in angel's musicianship skills and the companies ability to pick out a good composer for their music

Personally, I go with andy's "always say yes" attitude. If I didn't, I wouldn't have got half the experience I do now. If you say no, you don't get anywhere. Trust me guys, getting gigs like this is hard and you should not turn them down if they come your way. Besides, if the guys don't like your music, they won't use it. NEVER EVER SAY NO. Can't emphasis that point enough. Say yes, rise to the challenge, and expand your experience first hand In my experience, its actually very similar to game scoring. I will say however, that in my own experience, with games, you're scoring for a setting alone... with movies, you're writing with cues in mind during the scenes you're scoring and you have to keep that in mind during the process. Yes you do this with games to an extent but with movies its much much more precise. Also, when I did this, the director and music supervisor were much more picky with what I was doing, and took much much longer to reply to me due to very busy schedules, altho I'd assume the same of a more high end gaming company perhaps, like capcom, I haven't scored for a company like that. Remember guys, always say yes. Its the only way forward!

For anyone who is interested, this game is actually based on a meme known as the slender man... for anyone who plays this game and likes it, check out Marble Hornets - https://www.youtube.com/user/MarbleHornets There are alot of other Youtube channels related to the Slender Man as well, altho just to warn you, its scary stuff

Rexy, I'd hold that thought for a second One thing I will say is that there is no proof that they didn't listen to the tracks first and make an honest opinion. However, its highly likely. Push comes to shove guys, you could just discount the votes for rexy that we know for a fact come from Radio Sega. I do see where you are coming from, and measures should be taken to prevent this, say for example, you must have been registered on the forums for 3 months to vote. Would mean its kept within the community where there is less bias for one mixer. Atm, if some famous youtuber like Pokeremixstudio joined a compo, all he'd have to do is post a link to the youtube vid of his remix and all his subscribers would flock in and vote for him. Similar idea here, altho rexy to be fair had nothing to do with it herself and i don't think she should suffer resignation or disqualification for it.

Guys, people are going to predict stuff. It always happens, no need to get butthurt about it Every compo i've seen, people have predicted outcomes. I remember the second GRMRB, there were alot of people predicting PrototypeRaptor was going to win the whole thing. I don't remember butthurt replies then, and what happened? He was knocked out in the second round. Point is, no one can be sure who is going to win or lose, and people are going to make silly predictions, but they don't mean anything. Its not going to affect the final outcome, so its really not worth losing sleep over.

The Edgebee Studios Collection Download at Bandcamp I am happy to announce the release of my second bandcamp album: The Edgebee Studios Collection. The album is free/pay what you want. For anyone who is unaware, Edgebee Studios is a company that makes flash games, and I have been making the music for their games since their 2nd release. There are 3 games represented on this album: Critter Forge, Swords & Potions, and Card Monsters. With extended tracks and an unreleased Card Monsters theme, there will be something new for those who have played the games and heard all the music before. I hope you all enjoy this album! ~WillRock

I very much approve of this idea. Make it something like the ORC or the PRC, rather than a tournament

^^^^^^^^^^ In all seriousness tho, this is a cool idea of sorts, but shouldn't this be in the competition forum? lol Seems like you've thought this through a little too much not to do this idea yourself based on your first post haha.

Ok, so this is awesome. I feel like when this starts, the balance is ok... could be more bass but w/e. This does feel liberal, considering I know the sources but I can hear them in there, so I suppose its alreet Ok, Dubstep bit comes in and i'm feeling unfulfilled. Both the bass and the drums lack the punch necessary for the dubstep, altho the drums are by far the worse of the two... you really need to make them kick you in the arse and back again . Then the high end suddenly comes in like you had a low pass filter on the track during the dubstep section, and it hurts my ears basically. Its strange, its like you automated the master EQ at different parts of your mix and its just making the production very inconsistant. You need to really focus on making your mix less treble heavy after the dubstep part, and boost the bass so the dubstep part has the punch it needs. The sudden drops during the double time dubstep bit at the end throws me off... good idea, not great execution. Seems like i'm being hard on this, but this is good. Got my foot tapping and my spidey senses tingling... maybe. But yeah, this need some TLC to the frequency response of your mix before you sub this Good luck bro.

finished Banjo-Kazooie - Treasure Trove Cove Orchestra
WillRock replied to dummy's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
So... Where the fuck did you come from? You're pretty good hahaha. From what I can tell production wise, this would be close to DP, can't say on arrangement tho, would need a source link for that -
Bleh, its not like he's killing us with overload right This needs some mix work. Very loud guitars, I can hardly hear anything drums wise cept for crashes and that snare. This needs much more bass atm, this sounds tinny as a result of lack of bass, and I have bass heavy headphones. Guitars seem fake, but they seem to be seqeuenced well from what I can tell. Needs a production overhaul to make this pass the bar tho before you tackle any potential arrangement concerns - boost the bass, re-level stuff so you can hear the kick, hihats and the bass (altho be careful not to overdo the bass overall, since I know i'm saying it alot) Keep working at it bro!

mod-review Becoming the Forest -- Link to the Past remix
WillRock replied to ectogemia's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Wilbert? lol ok. There is piercing at 0:55 which is caused by that lead sine like thing you've got. You need to bring down the 1-1.5khz range, which often is slightly accented in those frequencies for sine type instruments. That lead at 1:31 also needs bringing down around the same area i'd say. Your crash cymbal is also slightly piercing. Hard to tell if its specific instruments or if the problem is caused by the master, but if you bring down the highs in those parts, it should make this sound alot better
