OCR01771 - Super Hang-On "Burn, Baby, Burn!"
WillRock replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Awesome stuff as usual. Maybe just a little bit too long, but thats nit picking. Looking forward to your next submission -
That game sounds awesome I want it now
-
I have that on my computer (not emulated) Nothing beats playing the game with a genesis/megadrive controller though.
-
Oh, I get it I want my games back EDIT: If you have a joke with me, I probably won't get it unless its REALLY obvious. Just warning you
-
I bet that person wanted to kill you lol (not that he knew it was you of course. I remember me and my sister having pokemon gold and silver (my sister had silver) well - I took her favorite pokemon, traded it to my cartridge, and sold it for a tenner. If only I had known of the evil that was to ensue because of it. My sister nearly killed me... it was worth the look on her face XD
-
Interesting, Links awakening was my fav game for years... it got stolen along with my gameboy and all my games when I was about 8. Anyway,It would have been my most nostalgic game, but I saw DX in a shop for about a tenner about 10 years later, and I brought it again. I don't regret it either. Oh and I still got it, I play it from time to time
-
Everyone has a video game that you once had years ago, that you wish you still had... Whats yours? Mine is Time Commando - That was a great game

Ok, I commented on this before, and I will say that this is one of my fav WIP's I have heard recently ;D Well, the arrangement and playing is awesome, but the production and sample quality isn't great, which saddens me a little as this could be SO MUCH BETTER!!!!! I am not sure whether how good you will be able to make this sound, but I have a horrible feeling that you won't be able to make this sound kick ass in the production depart with the samples and guitar distortion you have. I suggest getting better equipment. I think I have covered everything already thats wrong with the track, and certainly other people have. Drums have been covered on what you could use for better drums - EZ drummer. For guitars, I suggest Guitar Rig 3, I do not have the software, but I have heard what it is capable of and it sounds great. Like I said, the problem here is bad sound quality, I suggest you get better equipment than you are using. If you don't have the money, then save up I suggest. Not sure what less to say - this is great, but your limited in sound quality and it shows. Good luck in getting this sounding good dude.

hmm... I'm still not liking the piano sound, its clashing with itself a lot (to often for me to be specific) I think the problem with the piano is that there is to much sustain and reverb on it, all the notes bleed into one another. There's weird chromatic notes in the melody at the start as well, like I said before. Oh, and in my earlier comments about the bass, I was referring to a bass instrument, not the kick drum. Listening to it now, I'm not sure it needs a bass, but I wouldn't argue if you did. I suggest tidying up the piano, remove from of the sustain/reverb, and sort out the clashing notes for now. Everything else seems to be pretty cool, plenty of variation in the melody and arrangement, and the production is good. Just sort out that piano dude. Sounding good

The Tristram Incident 1996 (Diablo Remix)
WillRock replied to vr_jadison's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well the harp is a main instrument in my ears, everyone hears things differently. I stand by what I said before though about them in the main section. If that is your intention, its not my place to criticize I guess. But I will say that repetition will not get you a posted remix, should you submit this. I agree with rozo with the cheesy samples comment, they are cheesy but not for quality reasons, its more to do with the samples themselves, but I personally like them. I guess its a matter of opinion. -

Yeah, I'm not sure you have quite got it yet. Here is my example of a breakdown and build up http://djpretzel.web.aplus.net/songs/Outrun_Instant_OC_ReMix.mp3 Its one of the oldest remixes on the site, but we are looking at arrangement, so I can get away with showing you this 2.21 (roughly two thirds though the track) - breakdown starts, all instruments are removed. synth starts to increase in volume and is joined by the pad. lower bass is added. Bass kick introduces the bass and the drums do a long slow snare roll increase in dynamics. Just before the build up ends, the snare roll doubles, and brings in the main chorus line at 2.57. That is the kind of breakdown I was talking about 30 secs of the same part played over and over, first of all stripped down and slowing brings in other instruments as a means of keeping the listener interested. -
The Tristram Incident 1996 (Diablo Remix)
WillRock replied to vr_jadison's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hmm... I like the intro. The delay on that harp-ish synth is cool although it sounds unrealistic. Kinda atmospheric and the voice samples are funny Problems really start at 0.16 - Like rozo said, the harp-ish synth is too repetitive. Not to mention it plays the same chord over and over again... They also seem to clash. The bass is great - I love it, but the harp - argh. Not sure I like the synth stabs at 1.04 onwards, again, clashing, but I think that may be a style trait. Not sure with house 1.30 - I'm really starting to think this is minimalist. Breakdown - I love that, the best part of the track. Voice samples are back. As a listener, it seems to me that its to boring and repetitive to listen to for long. I would remove the harp in the main section (although the harp works much better in the intro and breakdown) and concentrate on more variation in the main section and bring in the breakdown much sooner, as that is awesome. -
I'm pretty much going to echo rozo, I agree about the chromatic bass, it clashes with the other instruments. also, the synth is a great lead but then again, many people know i'm a sucker for synths Looking forward to the intro, and the finished product. Well mixed dude sounds great. its good I LIK IT 8D

Sorry i'll explain. A breakdown is a part of a track where it - how to put it - it where the track suddenly loses a lot of the instruments, especially the harsh ones. It becomes more relaxing, the drums usually are absent in this part of the track or at least played twice as slow, a pad is sometimes used to fill out the sound. A build up is where you have a breakdown and you slowly bring back in the instruments of the main section and build up to a big climax. Some songs relay on a build up structure, the tracks starts quiet, and builds up in volume and instrumentation over a long period of time and the end is often very climatic. An example of a song with a long build up is stairway to heaven, where it builds up to the guitar solo at the end. Instrument dynamics are how loud and/or quiet an instrument is played -

The Kick of the drum Sorry, I didn't make myself clear there, I mean changing the lead instrument half way through the song. Its getting better One suggestion you could try - as a listener, I'm getting bored with listening to this, not that its bad though . I think a lack of instrument dymanics may be a problem (basically, the track is at one level all the way through) I suggest putting in a breakdown section. (I would personally put it after your original section, and use the break-down as a variation of the main melody. You can then experiment with dynamics and velocities (how hard you hit the note of a instrument) and get a good fill at the end of the build up and go into the main section with drums and that phaser bass, like you have already. -
Sonic The Hedgehog (GG) Jungle Zone Remix

I have actually subbed it, its been changed very little, but I sorted out the ending and tweaked production issues (reduced reverb on snare, etc). Wish me luck on the submission -

WillRock replied to Tarnish's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hi there, thanks for the message. On the mixing front, that bass/polysynth with the phaser on it is too over-powering, I would bring that down, the lead instrument would be more easily heard because of it, and your mix at the moment sounds a little weird - how can I put it - it sounds like your mix is shut in a box and doesn't have the room to breath, if you follow me hopefully bringing down the bass synth will solve that problem. I think that the bass kick is too pronounced at the moment, I would suggest bringing that down as well, but that isn't as big a problem. As for the changing of the source, you've done a great job, I love the variations you have put in the chorus, its awesome and kept me listening. But don't stop there, try variation the main melody a little as well . One suggestion - try using a different sound for the later run-through of the main section. Look forward to the next WIP. -
Good metal/rock guitar pugin(s)

Hey there, not a bad attempt here I use to love the source when I had this game on the GG... Slow down there mate, try not to get down hearted about it, from reading the comments, here is my advice - Its not that no one likes the way you are taking it, a close to the source remix is fine, I have done plenty. All we are trying to do is help you get your remix posted on the site. The trouble with OCR is that to get a chance of being submitted on the site, you need to change the way the source sounds when compared to the original, like note variations chord variations, maybe a different tempo etc. If you do not like the sound of that, then don't worry bout it, its the standards of the site, you don't have to do that if you don't want. Hell, some people think that we fuck around with the source too much, some people prefer a true to the original approach. Rozo has already suggested a different site to upload to - Youtube is my suggestion. Keep on working at it buddy, and don't throw away this idea, its a good one I await a new update dude, if you chose to carry on with this -
The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
WillRock replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
Hi there. Um... theres a newbie thread in the help and newbies forum that you can use to introduce yourself, so introduce yourself there EDIT: Sorry if that sounds a bit unfriendly, didn't read the post before I posted lol Anyway wheres my manners lol - Welcome to OCR, hope you enjoy it here -
Its a great idea, and i'd be interested in participation if there was a project. I have a feeling that someone will pick up on it at some point though... its too popular a soundtrack to be ignored.
-
I have a Pro Tools LE Setup (mbox 2 interface) and DI my guitar for recording metal. I use my Boss GT-8 for my distortion.
-
I was going to debate with you about that, but now I think about it...
-
Lol, so i wondered which video game character you think you are most like. Discuss. EDIT: Completely forgot to say which VG character I am most like. I am most like tails, because I'm easy going, and will do what I'm told. Most of the time
