Chrono Trigger - Crono Broke the 2A03!
WillRock replied to Kenogu Labz's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I agree. I like it for what it is but OCR would reject this. I doubt it would get to the judges Its not bad at all, I think making chip-tune music makes you think differently because you don't have worry about production, you can focus solely on the arrangment. Sometimes, I make a piece of music as a chiptune (I know, I'm I sad bugger ) and remake it later properly. Maybe you should try remaking it now. -
Can't Find Source Ok, first of all, if you wish to submit it, to avoid complications with judges it is better to get your friend to sub it. I have seen an instance when a track of another person was uploaded here, and it was sorted out, but it caused a bit a few small problems as the judges thought that it was a fan trying to get it posted cause he liked it. If you upload it, the judges will either reject it outright or contact your friend to check its alright with him that it is posted. I can't be sure tho, I'm not a judge Ok, the remix itself... It sounds like a official remix that you would hear in a later game of the same franchise, or a remake of that game, like the later castlevania game music, or the original virtua fighter music remixes that are in later versions of the game. Production seems good I love the intro solo. Not sure how much interpretation there is, but you can't have simply the theme in there, you need variations of the melody, breakdowns, solos, chord changes, Tempo Change whatever. Basically, you have to flex your shite to get it on OCR Oh, and upload it to a different website please I had to convert the file to a MP3 to play it. Convert it to MP3 and upload it on to tindeck or another file hosting site And the ending is WAY to abrupt. That needs to be fixed. I like it dude, try and get your friend to work on it some more

I really like this one. Great build up, feel, and samples for its time. My only draw back is that it is too short
-
I like the mash up. I agree that the first 2 minutes seemed unnecessary tho. I am def up for the suggestion of a radio edit
-
I don't know any decent ones myself I'm afraid, I try not to use brass at all, because the samples I have are shite There are some saxaphonists on the site, some may be willing to help you out, but I can't guarantee anything. Here is a good place to ask for samples and VST's tho - http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4556&page=14 As for an instrumentalist, there are plenty on the site that can play saxophone, the one that comes to mind is the prophet of mephisto. You could always ask him I guess.

Funky stuff dude, I'm not digging the sax lead tho :S I liking it, a better lead and I'd be happy
-
Welcome to OCR Not bad, not bad at all, you are certainly on the right track, as ocremix have arrangements, not remixes. I like the style and the original intro is nice. Not sure that the bass works with the intro tho. 6th chord of the chorus section sounds weird, I would change that. Production sounds all right, I think some of the sounds are a little simple, but the style and sequencing is good and creative. I don't like the sax sample tho :S My biggest crit is a lack of variation and original writing. After the first run-though of the theme, you basically repeat. Variate the theme and chords a little the second time around, and I think you should be able to do that no problem Also, I think you need an extra original section in the middle of the piece, be it a solo, anything really. I don't think this is there yet, but it has the potential to be awesome, keep at it dude, great first WIP

I haven't played the games either, its because of the AVGN that I know of them I have heard that silver surfer is one of the hardest games ever made, but I am going off the point here. Arrangement - now that I can comment on it - I like it. There is plenty of things going on, you have given the silver surfer theme a unique blues twist and added original sections to it as well. The TMNT theme is a bit coverish, but you have a nice solo in the place of the original - nothing major there. What is the section that comes before and after your solo over the silver surfer backing near the end? I like it, is it an original section? sounds like Iron maiden gone blues

Congrates dude

Not a fan of that intro :S It sounds very primitive, which in some cases works, but not in this case for me. However, the production is good for its time however, there are plenty of off notes in this that put me off further. Its all very similar and boring as a result, but the break down at the end with the piano is a great change, the piano is handled well, despite sounding a little midi like. It cuts off at the end, not cool :S I like the production, but they are little flaws with this that make me unhappy with this one as a whole.

OCR00175 - Shadow of the Beast II "Shadows of Dimension Z"
WillRock replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I really like ambient intros like this. It reminds me of Mr Roboto. Its has aged well I think. The drums could have been handled better tho. They just started with a bang. No fill, I would have liked to hear them gradually increasing in volume personally to start. Not to mention the lack of a strong kick. However, they are well programmed. I do like this mix not to many complaints, it makes good background music, which to be fair is what VG music is Recommended. -
I want to rename my threads. EDIT: And now I can!

I second this idea. It would be a useful adjustment I reckon -
OCR01520 - Chrono Cross "People Seized with Trance"
WillRock replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like this one, despite not being a big fan of trance. Your synths were def high quality and there was plenty of variation, and yet, I still got bored, I'm sad to say, because I really respect this as a piece of music and don't think you could have done much to make it better. -
OCR00501 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Teen Turtle Tryp"
WillRock replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmm. Not bad. The feel is cheesy, but makes you feel happy, i'd say that its the tracks strongest point. The instruments sound very simple. Drums are too loud, and the bass sounds weak as well as the drums. The lead being programmed well - i'm hearing pitch bends and legato in the lead sound - is too quiet. Once again mixing problems. The panned sample in the middle sounds weird as does the end. They don't mesh at all with the source Its very simple (drums, bass, and lead/rhythm synth) and the original sections are so different its unnerving but there is a unique charm there that makes you want to listen to it again. Not a keeper, but certainly listenable. -
Thought I'd post the source. I think doubling the tempo was a great idea - the source sounds like it should be double time due to the energy. I'd also like to add how impressive this source this O_O The sequencing is incredible, and there is an amazing synth solo in there considering its nes music. We need more remixes of this theme A lot of the parts that I thought were guitar licks that were improvised are actually in the source, just thought I'd mention that. Also, I don't know where your TMNT part is, so I haven't posted the source for that. I found the TMNT Theme I must say I like these sources. Its a shame bad video games don't get coverage here despite good soundtracks.

OCR00549 - Top Gear 3000 "Shop Mix"
WillRock replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmm Not a bad mix Problems for me include the sax quality (which is a big let down for the piece) The bass is too loud and drowns out the pad which I quite like, despite a lack of reverb for it to flow. Also, the bass plays an off note in the main section on the root key. It plays a minor 3rd note in a major key which bothers me Drums sound weak, where is the bass drum? The piano sounds nice, I little dry tho, and too loud - there are deffo some mixing problems here, it sounds like the piano and the bass are fighting for the main instrument role, although the sax is a bad lead sound anyway. Weird ending. I am not familiar with the source, but it I am guessing there aren't any original sections. Can't be sure tho However, I like the chill out mood. It hasn't dated well, but its not bad. I think it could have been better tho. -
OCR00258 - Tetris (NES) "Techtris Type Z"
WillRock replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like the others like the intro and the main section. I do think that this is arranged well and it certainly has its good points, however, it hasn't aged well The lead synth sounds very dry and unprocessed, and the snare sounds mechanical, and a lack of velocity changes in the drum rolls give me the impression of a machine gun, not a snare The orchestra hits aren't great either tbh. Not a bad arrangement, and it has its good points, but it also has bad points that bring down what could have been an excellent mix. -
I agree. I personally prefer the master system soundtrack to the original one (I think it is more consistent with quality of tracks personally) I intend to do remixes from that version of the game as it doesn't have nearly as much coverage on here as it should. I'd love to hear a rock/metal version of this... I may do one at some point, but not yet, i'm busy with life and other silly obstacles that get in my way when I remix

OCR00196 - Frogger "Frog Jam Stomp Box"
WillRock replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmm.... not a great mix here imho. The piano that opens sounds so dry and midi-like. Then a weird drum pattern comes in with unusual panning :S The strange thing about that drum part is that it is in triple time ( 12/8 ) where all the other instruments are in 4/4, which creates timing issues that reminds me of bad tuna, although it wasn't anywhere near as bad, at least the tempo was correct here. After a while, the piano starts playing arpeggios as a variation of the main theme if you follow. You have to listen to it to understand, but its weird in my opinion. And what is with that guitar sample? very random not to mention it sounds like it clips when it goes down in volume in for each step. more random piano craziness after no bass as far as I can hear. A very strange and weird mix. Not recommend. -
OCR00372 - M.U.S.H.A. "For the Love of 2D"
WillRock replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ditto on anso's comment, this needs more reviews. Ok, this is an older remix so I am aware that the sound quality isn't going to be be-all end-all. Anyway, the lead synth is what really drives the mix. Its so well programmed with attention to detail that synth lovers like me are bound to drool over it However it drowns out the backing to an extent due to loudness, but that isn't a bad thing imo However, without the lead synth to drive the track, the backing sounds weak, not helped by that awful fake guitar :S Not a favorite of mine, and I am not going to download it, but it does have good points like the lead sequencing and I am not forgetting to put its age in the equation, which brings me to the conclusion that this is a good mix -
Ok, my new update Everyone has mentioned loud hihats, so I have turned them down I have also changed the chord sequence of the second runthrough of the main melody and added another short synth solo at the end to wrap things up better I have also varied the drum part more, since that seems to be a common problem with my mixes, but that hasn't been mentioned here http://www.tindeck.com/audio/fileshack/a/afmy-Lava%20Reef%20Edit.mp3
-
Best WIP ever tbh You should sub one to ocr, just for laughs.
-
This is an arrangement of the lava reef zone that I think is a good candidate for submission. Thoughts? http://www.tindeck.com/audio/fileshack/k/ksjq-Lava%20Reef.mp3 And one can't forget the source:

Well, my record for this is 36 meters with the guy actually running lol I both love and hate this game, its so addicting, yet so frustrating
