  1. D is for Edit: I hate you all and no I am not changing again.
  2. Grrrr you Coop!!! Edit... A is for
  3. Are we to call Celtic music enthusiasts in this thread? I assume we are interested more in the instrumental than the folk (folk being more along the lines of the Clancy Brothers). With that in mind, here are a couple recommendations: Silly Wizard - Live Wizardry Lunasa - Se (Se is my favorite [yes I know it rehashes], though it is hard to go wrong with Lunasa) I have many more recs in my bag of tricks, but since most (if not all) folks here have not heard either of those, there is your starting point. Feel free to PM me if you want more. I'm not impressed by most of the recommendations in this thread. Celtic Moon, for instance, is not a good album. And other recs, such as those in the op, are far, far more new age (and, in most other instances in this thread, contemporary) than they are Celtic. That doesn't mean they're terrible; they're just not traditional Celtic. So they're not incredible. Oh, youtubes? (not from the album; far better on the album) Here's to King James and to Donald McGillavry.
  4. Contra vs SOTC? That's a tough one...
  5. Look, the eight-bit era sucked. If we were all honest, we'd all admit it. The fun is in the nostalgia and, of course, in revisiting and reinventing the music. That said, the only two NES games I would personally consider recommending would be SMB3 and, to a far lesser extent, Castlevania. I've heard good things about Blaster Master, Guardian Legend, and Dragon Warrior 3, but I haven't played them. Other very cool games have been recommended in this thread (8BitBliss' recs are all solid), but if you weren't around for the eight-bit era (or if you don't enjoy primitive 2D scrollers), I don't think you'd enjoy them.
  6. Hahaha... this reminds me of my first post on ocr, since it was a request for a Sky Shark remix. I wrote a gaddam essay. Didn't quite grasp the concept of tl;dr back then. Anyway, Sky Shark has some damned fine chiptunage - good music and long & varied enough to give a lot to work with in creating a remix. I hope someone in LT's project eventually picks up something from this game. And yes, stage three is solid, so a big wtf to "music of video games" not including it. It's not like there were more than four tunes in the entire game (minus the cheesy ending). So here's the youtube for stage 3: .
  7. So what? I signed up for digg and dugg it. And yep, it's libel. That's an oxymoron.
  8. Xenon and megadave, you kick ass. I had the higher bitrate version of Blue Lightning (a literally epic remix), but I lost it at some point so I'm really, really stoked to have that one back. And then there's everything else you've posted, most of which I've never heard. Anticipation abounds. Thanks guys!
  9. Everything I've seen thus far leads me to believe this will be complete wretched kickassness. With the prefect balancing done against all things right and good, a la disney. If the powers that be pull this off without betraying the concept, this should be game worth every minute of playtime. I'm to assume no one else entered with the expectation of finding a new debilitating drug?
  10. Thanks for the link, OC! I hadn't heard of him before this thread. He's not my favorite critiquer, but he has enjoyable videos nonetheless. I went off the rec: Dr Insano is indeed hilarious.
  11. Holy crap that was like hearing me from 10 years ago. 13 years ago, I guess, to be precise. All my current psxing... vindicated. Thank you, sir.
  12. I heard from the new guy at work that DragonCon is like your conventional con except exceedingly mischievous and drunken. Or at least so after hours. If anyone can validate this I will renew interest. Also, bump.
  13. This game's music was designed to be awesome, that is, transcend the game's retardedness of crapulent plot and generally pwn. If you haven't heard Homestar's Mystic Quest you are not worthy. Not that that's the only criteria, but it is one.
  14. I was about to post in the other thread that yes, this thread does still exist. Rehashing from page xx, Dracula without knowing to get triple boomers on CV1 would by my hardest boss (otherwise it would be the Grim Reaper, who was surprisingly easy to beat now that I'm an adult). Recently, Metroid Prime was a bitch. Had to do that battle around a dozen times before I won.
  15. No idea if you'd like it, but from what I've seen I'd seriously lean towards PS3 on that game alone (my previous argument aside). You're not from offtop. But I'll be nice: since you couldn't tell, that jab was in jest.
  16. How the hell are you on a video game (and music) site without any knowledge of current games? I don't waste money on new systems ($750 over the past couple years has bought me a ps2 and a cube plus about 60 games for those two, psx, snes, and nes - including a half-dozen high-ticket items like Xenogears), but... if I were going to waste money it'd be on the PS3. I could live with a system with fewer games, but I could not justify my decision to spend a substantial amount of money on a piece-of-shit product. Which the 360 still is, or at least was not even a year ago when I did my research, with failure rates of their 'improved heat sink version' at nearly 10%. Yeah, fuck that. Verdict is still out on the library too, since Japan still loves their PS3 so they'll keep making games for it. You're welcome.
  17. "And then I dealt the imp a mighty blow!" Dating myself with the original FFII US translation, I suppose. Also, I was being tongue-in-cheek with that bit, not seriously critiquing (in case that was lost).
  18. Yup, same. Did with CV2 as well, but that was just with the hints. Freaking graveyard duck... Speaking of needing to take notes: Ultima IV, Quest of the Avatar. No one in his right mind would suffer through such a game today. No, screw you volcano, you take that damned bell, candle, flute, drum, skull and whatever else and shove them up your pipe. I'm done here.
  19. +100% volume at 1:45. +50% more at 3:45. Every time. I never paid mind to the source, but man this reworking kicks ass. The choir is the lynchpin: the passion carried in the voices capture the resolute determination of Yang and company. Honor and right must prevail. The recurring koto, handling the most recognizable section of the source, is a fitting touch; and the crunchy guitar work coupled with the choir chants later in the song truly personifies the strife. The diverse instrumentation (I heard that brass!) and overall incredibly creative re-envisioning make this a gem. Awesome work, all.
  20. Ugh, this track-by-track review business is tough to do right. I have disk one finished (oh... yay... another disk one review...), and I was all set to post it. Then I realized how massive my post would have been, so I signed up at wordpress (that's right, I got a blog just so I could review this album), and dumped it on their truck. I don't know theory and I don't know remixing, but I have nice things to say! If you care to read, visit http://kbocr.wordpress.com/
  21. Yeah, this project is going to be awesome. No doubt everyone here will come through. Sides, halc hired me to be his hitman. So we'll be square, right. RIGHT? Just how did you want to handle this WIP deadline again?
  22. Bunch of people is stupid, that's why. And - though I should quit doing this and just start work on a track-by-track - using that six-second source intro to start breakdowns highlighted it, added a fitting mournful touch, and made for great transitions. Those two references made the song for me. Wait... no, they're right. The Red Wings are emo? I didn't want to make that connection! Bunch of K.B. is stupid. How did I not hear that before?!? Ugh, shame. Hi! Hi! (this works in Nipponese too) Too liberal? That's either completely subjective or, for submission standards, a matter for the almighty LT to decree. I heard the source (and the prelude, duh), and I think you covered it completely and kept on it (or them) for most of the song. Your interpretation was additive, not selective of or divergent from the source. So no, in no way do I think this was too liberal. It was also pretty darned cool.
  23. Holy crap that was awesome. Yes do more of this please. Edit:
