  1. I was too tired to listen to this last night at 2 in the morning, so I instead just had a look at the lyrics. The last two lines sent a shiver down my spine. As a poem, this is beautiful. The "Roses of May" recurring motif, and how you manage to make the concept work in three or four different literal uses is excellent. Your arrangement and performances did your words justice... my one issue is that everything seems fairly quiet, though there are a few louder sections. So I guess that's a mastering issue, unless it was a matter of style/genre (I'm not familiar with this kind of music). This song is a rose for your ears.
  2. If I were capable of such hilarious spoofs i too would self-promote to no end It wasn't until halfway through that it hit me, but it did. Very nice.
  3. Such a horrible, horrible tease, lol.
  4. I think that's why I love RPGs now: Ultima III was a big factor in my learning how to read and write. I also have a lot of other things I could say about RPGs though, not nearly as bad as this 17 year old's Halo 3 experience I assume, but...
  5. The article Meteo linked in that Japan post says that now many of Japan's men are considered herbivores and have no interest in sex to begin with... it's not just a matter of sexual crimes. There are problems in having many men of a society not wishing to reproduce. Though, if it's somewhat genetic thing and not solely influenced by the nurturing environment, this would only be a temporary - since few of the herbivores will reproduce, they won't pass down their genes to the next generation, and the next generations should be filled with consumerism-driven, sex-obsessed and testosterone-powered carnivores. Oh... and if you want to talk about video game benefits... just start with the basic and obvious: playing games can be fun, entertaining, can help you calm down/chill out, etc., depending on the game.
  6. maybe i should move to japan. i might fit in.
  7. ahh, i have been too lazy as of late to plug my external HD back into my computer, so i've been doing without torvus clockwork. But I was sitting here just 4 minutes ago thinking and the song was playing in my head - it was like the telltale heart, i kid you not - so i plugged it in immediately and gave this song a good listen. Probably'll give it a few more, too. Good stuff, very memorable, and.. bassoon!
  8. Damn, dude... you win, lol.
  9. Where would this research take place? Even some universities get squelched by big corporations in contracts that prevent them publishing their findings if they don't support the corporation's financial endeavors.... not all the time of course. Blah i'm just a pessimist all around about the matter, it seems.
  10. This should also be researched in greater depth, and stuff. I am personally interested in the effect of video games hollistically on a person. Not to say I don't want to see video games sold anymore, but it's something that a knowledge-seeking society ought to look into.
  11. I don't think they can turn a person into a killer instantaneously, either. But what can they do?
  12. I really doubt it was ever for the sake of providing "fuel"... c'mon now.
  13. I'm not at all surprised by any lateness of the patch: 1.1, anyone? that said... i _MIGHT_ be playing d2 when this patch hits, and it'll probably be east, hardcore, and most probably classic, though I may have a few xpac characters.
  14. I agree... but can't I also make the argument that the fact that death is so often portrayed in video games that this isn't too surprising? I don't know anything about this person's mental background, though. Prior to playing such video games, what was he like? Did the violence found in the game he was addicted to cause him to become a more violent person? (I am not too sure on the whole "death isn't real" idea - I think it's possible that a person can feel this way, especially if they themselves have never experienced death, but I doubt at the age of 17 this would be the case; I could maybe argue that, mentally, he was not developing normally as a regular adolescent would due to his obsession with a video game with such a degree of violence involved in its gameplay).. Why aren't there (more and/or widespread) longterm studies being done on the affects of video games on people of all ages? Is it just not of interest to society, is it too expensive, would it be too difficult, are there ethical issues involved? I do feel sorry for the mother and father, and the family. I imagine they tried to respond to a growing problem in hopes of remedying it, but when you're dealing with addiction, you're dealing with fire, and you have to be careful not to let it burn you or the addict who dangerously plays with it.
  15. happy birthday. If you do get around to seeing it, I can only imagine what this thread is doing for your ego
  16. I especially think this TMNT discussion was very salient to this community.
  17. This is the kind of forward thinking this company needs to get it back on the fast track to success/somewhere! Except the whole paying part will have to be scrapped due to budget woes. Wait, if we pay you... you'll judge faster? You know, you're giving that Paypal button on the (soon-to-be-axed) sidebar some real competition.
  18. define: microlaptops. Are we talking netbooks (~8 inches), or smaller? Not attractive? Have you seen this thing? I better post a picture in the original post for the sake of eye candy and inspiration. The palm pre might be a viable option for you though. Just saying - trying to keep the topic ... on topic.
  19. I meant in the buildup - it's not horrible, but I think with some work you can get it to sound more natural and fluid. I think the pitch bending is interesting, though unrealistic.
  20. With all the judge input in this thread (alright, mostly Larry's), not to mention djp's activity, at least 2-4 more submitted remixes could have been judged and at least 1-2 remixes posted. Evolution is hard when you spend less energy producing offspring and more energy bickering. Just saying.
  21. In case you need some background, the Pre is Palm's new smartphone device running a new OS, webOS, which is built upon Linux. It was released about a week ago on the Sprint network in the states. Figger 1: said palm pre. source: engadget.com, possible press release, who knows. The code to enter the phone's developer mode has been made widely known and anyone with a computer is able to install a custom firmware onto the device, using the firmware Palm has released as a base for modifications. Since the firmware/OS is based on Linux, this means people can add existing linux software onto the device with relative ease.... FCEUltra NES Emulator on Pre So this is like the 6th day of the device's launch, and though no formal SDK has been released so far there's a strong homebrew scene for it already. Will this go the way of the PSP in its earliest days? Will the release of the SDK strengthen/break the homebrew crowd? Does news of being able to play classic games on it entice you? Discuss.
  22. I like the electronic sounding synthes/sounds etc you've put in lots of these pieces. Galactic warrior makes use of a trumpet/brass instrument on the right that sounds a little exposed/fake. Red Brinstar sounds cool. Piano works for me. The Echoes mix also sounds cool. Maridia: in the intro, and throughout, that thing a woodwind or a synth? Moving from one note to the next makes it seem like there are more than one - something with attack and sustain? Alinos is sounding pretty rich due to better mastering. The chorus could use some improvements to make it sound more natural, like messing with attack and sustain maybe. Sounds strong, though. Nightmare sounds better, too. Tense. I only know one of these... so .. I can't really say how well you've managed to reproduce the originals, lol. And unfortunately my mastering isn't very good either (haven't had nearly as much to master as you have, lol). This means that I have very little to offer you, sadly. But I do like how many of these turned out, and would like to hear how they sound after you get some pointers from people here that are qualified to do so (unlike me) and/or take a class on the subject. Net Mission sounds cool, too.
  23. It's a bit trite to call this "badass," because this is far from triteness, but.. I'm at a loss... so.. this is beyond badass - pretty unique and engaging sound, and while I didn't make too much of the original (I did like how it looped though!), this is something I can really enjoy. Excellent work mazedude, and really interesting interview.
  24. For the win... Lol.... But all jokes aside, those look awesome.
