About the smallest screen size possible... I've noticed that hovering around the 15.4-16 inch mark actually seems to get you some of the cheaper deals in laptops. A bit after i bought my 13.3, a 15.4 model by the same company with very similar specs went on sale for like $100 less than mine. Maybe it was just bad timing. And it seems the 13 and 14 ones don't go on sale as often, at least not at Fry's (what's your opinion on Fry's?), and I'm not too frequently checking tigerdirect or newegg for deals on laptops. Unless you go for a netbook, which will probably be cheaper. Back on topic: gotta know what the intended purpose of this laptop is to give a good estimate, or to look for a good deal.

OCR01853 - Faxanadu "Ce pays me rend mauvais"
SoulinEther replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
cet oeuvre me rend calme, relax, ....bon. I'll agree with zyko - there's a good vibe about this one. It really does put a smile on my face. I'm usually interested in melodic variation but... this is just fascinating to me. I'm not annoyed at all by the fact that I'm hearing the same melody over and over; it's sort of like a fun ostinato to me. And I mean, the melody does get a little varied at the end. Very briefly. And once. Still neat. -

Airy-synth sample thing is pretty cool now, I think. I guess that is an electric piano lol. Still needs to be louder, I think. That original section at the end is nice. Definitely enjoying it. That noise synth (seems like what it is, maybe it's just got FM or something).. pre-breakdown, maybe it's too intense? It's handled pretty well transitioning into the breakdown, though. Do you plan on submitting this to the judges when you get enough feedback/feel it's ready? -
Album Release (free) - Sudden Illusions
SoulinEther replied to WillRock's topic in General Discussion
finally.. dl'ing. Synthtopia - did you borrow from your icecap remix? Similar motif as your original section + similar arpeggio (at least similar synth). No complaints though, very chill, describing it as nostalgic works for me. Moonlight: YES, PIANO LOVE. I wouldn't have minded more rubato but still very sweet. Sudden illusions - somewhat unexpected in some places and I liked that. Really digging the sounds you brought to this one. Symphetic had a nice vibe all aboot it. Dark Dreams reminded me of Bach I think. Haha, Metric Metal's intro juxtaposed to Dark Dreams was awesome. Strikes me as your heaviest piece on this album, coool. Across the Galaxy sort of reminds me of a pinball machine but more space-y with those pads. Perhaps it's the arpeggiating everywhere. Liking it. Very full and satisfying ending. Oh, and... thanks for making this and releasing it for free. Do you have commercial aspirations, by chance? -
Thanks for giving me a good reason to listen

Dance Dance Revolution - Butterfly - "Love Butter"

I was digging your voice here (a lot, actually; you remind me of another singer) but all the accompaniment sounds distant in comparison. Maybe you should expand on this. Even if it's not something that this site would be able to accept, it's a pretty sweet concept. -
OCR01685 - Final Fantasy VI "Dirt Devil"

I hated 3:26, because it starts to fade out and leave. :/ This piece is engaging. You might not expect where it's going in the first dozen measures, but you'll love it when you get there, every step of the way. And when the piece comes to a close... it's like.. the bittersweet feeling of returning home, alone, after an exciting week of adventure that is likely to never happen again (this is why some genius made Repeat). I'm amazed by how much stuff is going on. Not only are there like uncountable quantities of instruments and drums/percussions/percussive sounds, the automation going on is impressive (well, this is zircon's work...). This is one of those required listens if you frequent this site, if not for the enjoyment of the work, at least for the appreciation of the workmanship and the creativity involved. I feel so lame for not listening to it with a more open mind a year ago. Though a tad bit late, congratulations, zircon - you deserve it. -
Charting Worlds and Taking Names WIP [Mass Effect]

Loving the sound of this. The bass is awesome, and everything is loud. My main issue is there are sections where repeated melodies get a little stale (which is what seems to be my general issue with a lot of WIPs). In the original I think it worked well because there's a sort of that "lost in space" chill vibe to it, and it helps you zone out, but here you're going for something a bit more in-your-face. An example: at :51 when you introduce that melody w/guitar. After the fourth measure, You could try messing with automation to cause subtle changes in the timbre of the guitar or something, to keep it interesting. Or, you could do something original with it, or add another instrument doing counterpoint.. or both. I mean, your next section is like a breakdown, but you haven't really built something up preceding it. Regarding that breakdown. The attack on that airy-sounding synth (or w/e it is) playing chords is funky - a tad bit too long, causing a distractingly long silence in between chords. edit: maybe you could lengthen sustain, but not so much that there's note bleeding. Again, the piano - actually, I think it being so repetitive works just fine, but you might wanna try some counterpoint, maybe with guitar - something that can rise over the piano (which is damn chill sounding). ..Well, those strings work pretty nicely, but I feel they're coming in a little late to do the job. Guitar solo-thing is so quiet in compared to the rest of the piece. Really quiet. Overall, this is nice. The track does not plod along and has decent form, but a little variation here and there in the melodies after they've been repeated so many times might not be a bad thing. I'm definitely waiting for any update -
OCR01353 - Final Fantasy IV "The Sky Was Never a Limit"

The pace of this piece is what puts me at peace. This is the kind of song for which (nobody likes dangling preopositions) I sit/lie down; to relax, to take a step back, and to reassess my situation I can turn to this remix. It progresses along inspirationally, first slowly, then slightly more rapidly and consistently. And using the harp as a frame, revisiting the first idea of the piece with the newer emotions and optimism/determination/spirit of adventure/I'm-not-sure-what-word-properly-assesses-the-tone-of-this-piece revealed toward the end really seals the deal for me. Letting harp close off the piece so nicely on a chord as it does is satisfying to the version of myself who started listening to the piece just a few short minutes ago, so I walk away feeling content and determined. ....I mean, this is fantastic. How did this get overlooked during 2 (3?) remix review drives? Maybe because it already had a decent number of reviews. Deserves more, still. -
wow I came off as unapologetically matter of factly.. lol, sorry about that. i'm sure your rickroll will be tastefully received, considering the demographics of your group.

check out essentially all of blind's stuff (especially his latest stuff). Jewbei's got a good track... AkumajoBelmont has a few good pieces and his collab R U Overdrive with BrainCells is pretty sweet. /endplugging Or you can search for remixes with the tag trance, etc.

Assuming the chocobo theme hasn't drastically changed since FF4, I'd say that it's conservative. The second iteration was boring because it was exactly the same as the first (I only listened once; if there was a very subtle difference I didn't pick up on it). Aside from a short intro and an interesting interim, it included the source's melody verbatim (or fairly verbatim). You have stuff in the background set to loop with minimal variation, it seems. I'm not sure if it's because of instrumentation or what you have looping, but it becomes a bit annoying after a while. It could stand to be more interesting and less repetitive imo. Try building up and building down, bring in more instruments gradually, take some away. Add some sections. Arpeggios, maybe. It needs more writing in general I think.. but it is rather short, and a WIP, so you still have room to do more.

Not sure if it's new but it runs quite well under Linux w/Wine (Ubuntu). I'm getting lower latency here, too... er... something is wrong with this picture. :\ With synth1 I can (allegedly) reach anywhere from 0.7 - 6.3 ms latency and I have no issues, whereas with Windows, going anywhere below 93ms would result in fail.

Lol, I'd been running with the old theme whilst remaining none the wiser... It's ... ok. So far, I've not run into anything very different or new, except this new theme, which I'll admit looks pretty sexy.

I have listened to it, and I'll admit that I agree. I have a strong feeling that the next update will be a lot better. -
I don't have binocular vision so it was a waste of $3... more sad/depressing than the whole movie edit: well, maybe I do have binocular vision, but I don't have stereopsis. I'm not sure if "have" is the right word. oh well.
