OCR01465 - Sonic & Knuckles "Lover Reef"
SoulinEther replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I disagree with the pretzel-makin'-machine on this one. We've turned to ice And it's not our way to be So let the earth quake And melt with me. While I do find "and it's not our way to be" to be an interesting line, "melt with me" has that double-meaning that gives almost a sense of purpose to this song. Me likey. -
How do I put a music player on my website?

Is there some subtle reference I'm not getting here? Or is this totally random? Or is this a bot? -
How do I put a music player on my website?

I've used the JW FLV player.. it's pretty good, supports both audio and video, fairly easy to use. It's free for non-commercial use, as far as I understand. http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/ -
Virtua Fighter 2 - Jacky Theme Metal Remix
SoulinEther replied to WillRock's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I was going to comment on this earlier. But I didn't. Don't know why I decided to change my mind either lol. I'm thinking, just personally, it might be an interesting choice to drop the bass or drums at some point. Or one of your sweet synth solos? Or vary the drums up a little bit. I can think of one or two sections that may sound interesting with minimal drum (possibly only kick), like 2:00 or at the end of or after the guitar solo that segues into a really active guitar section.. or not there. Somewhere. Maybe. Or maybe even not at all. And, as I always say, my words = grains of salt. But really, it's interesting, and way less repetitive feeling than the actual song (even if you didn't change the structure too much). And you're tempting me to drop (erm, set aside) my Castlevania mix to work on a Jacky and/or Sarah remix (from VF1). You're teaming up with my music library to work against me lol. -
In response to KeyNote, there are no notes at all... they just make sounds when you type the different letters. Wow this is an interesting experience. Nothing sounds nice when you type at like 100 WPM though :/ And I myself am trying to overcome a case of said block. But it's more about a complete and general boredom. Deadlines may help. Or this program's incessant dissonance will inevitably force me to make something that sounds pleasant. Or something.

rofl.. I seek not to continue such discourse after you've so pwned me thusly, and justly so. (But I essentially agree with your statements until I can work up the energy and focus to compare them with my own beliefs and find/make up differences for the sake of rhetoric! )

Obviously someone doesn't read mobile engadget

Why does a discussion of Zune or iPod failure inevitably devolve into a discussion of Mac vs PC... which not only omits GNU/Linux/(Free/Open/Net)BSD/anyotheroperatingsystemmadeforx86(_64) on the sides of both "pc" and "mac", but really has nothing to do with a Zune or an iPod? ...and really. It's not that the Zune is inferior. It's that its firmware/software happens to fail in one regard. Same goes for the association of an iPod with its firmware and the dominant operating systems for the PC and Mac associated with those platforms. (and the Mac isn't much different from a PC anymore anyway...) tl/dr: we're given hardware with software/firmware that limits our way of using said hardware. fail

OCR01794 - Sonic & Knuckles "Sand in My Shoe"

heard any music from egypt lately? lol. Still, I agree that it does remind me of traditional egyptian music. But, all traditional-music-stereotyping aside, this was highly enjoyable. -
Atop a Singing Mountain (Chrono Trigger)
SoulinEther replied to Cyril the Wolf's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Production-wise I think they sound more cohesive with the accompaniment. Still, I question the style. Did you sing the lyrics all at once, or did you break it down into parts? -
Atop a Singing Mountain (Chrono Trigger)
SoulinEther replied to Cyril the Wolf's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
How you sing in the end (last stanza + "I missed you") sounds more appropriate for this piece. I think if you can sort of meet your styles halfway in between (louder, but not necessarily shouting, and with softer emotion), because I really wasn't feeling how you were singing a lot of the time, this would be a stronger piece? The guitar seemed ok, there was this one section at like 3:02-3:04, 3:13-15 that I'm not sure about, kind of abrupt... that whole solo section I think could use work. No idea what the source is, so I can't really comment on interpretation,... er, but I think adding vocals in should suffice, heh. But I like the ideas here. Plus guitar. Just... not so much the singing. A few weirdnesses with the lyrics themselves that may get ironed out with better singing. Tons of potential, and as you said, this is a "very early wip" and everything is done live so, like I guess they say, practice makes perfect. (Unless you're me. Then practice just makes you frustrated and scream "fuck it" and give up, lol) -
HOLY CRAPOMGWTF Alright. This movie is like a well-executed remix of a song from a game you grew up with .. in the one genre you hate. Le Dîner de cons... it served its purpose well as an annoying movie; it's a comedy, but it gets on your nerves. But it's so well-done. BUT I HATE IT. Best worst movie ever.

While that may be true... what's odd is how Death was unable to exit from his circular movements to use that three-spinning-spirit-dealy attack against me. So basically, he was going 'round n'round as I pummeled him with optical shots. I'm a cheap, unintentional exploiter, but at least I'm a happy cheap unintentional exploiter.

Let us assume in one year, all cell phone and mobile internet devices will be browsing the "real" internet (or, that they can interpret and display full HTML/CSS/Javascript/etc. in both a zoomed-out and a zoomed-in view). It is still not practical to use (not browse) most full-size websites in a small-size screen (resolution). (True, the bulk of my mobile web-use has been on a PSP and an LG Vu, where neither really gives you a zoomed out view of the web page you're browsing.. and one doesn't even let you touch to move the display.) A page designed for a small viewing area with larger-sized (finger-clickable) links, etc., could be easier to use, simpler, induce fewer headaches, be lighter on bandwidth (thus both loading faster and lower cost for the host, though I'm sure the financial gains would be negligible), and probably look more aesthetically-pleasing due to better accessibility by mobile devices... the whole form/function thing. Regardless, the question is, how many people really use OCR on their mobile phones, to the extent that they actually browse the forums, send/receive PMs, etc.? Yes, the idea of a Blackberry App would make it highly convenient for Blackberry users to do these tasks, because instead of having to deal with web pages in a funky browser, you could interact with OCR through a program designed for easy manipulation on a Blackberry device. But.. unlike you and me, not everyone owns a Blackberry. Creating generic J2ME programs comes to mind, but... from what I've experienced with my phones, there is a myriad of compatibility issues between different models and screen resolutions (or it could just be my dirty rotten luck :/). Plus, consider who would be creating this. If it's going to be DJP, (though I don't know the breadth his coding skills), I would assume (D)HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL are of his strongest suits, and a mobile version of this site would be easier to use. If it's someone else with Java/J2ME coding skills, then maybe a Java/BB app would serve best. (Also, experience in designing a mobile-compatible website could lead to functional/design enhancements/modifications of the real website, which may/may not anger some of the masses.) Meh. I'm interested in seeing anything of the sort happen, really.

That's an understatement.

Well, give me a Wii and we'll see... ho ho ho.

I am trying to work on a piano remix of it. (lulz i fail so don't expect much out of it). And the remake used on Judgment stinks. Though it's supposed to be a high-energy track, it's completely drained of any interest (perhaps in the effort to make it a not-so-distracting BG music, though I've never played the game and I don't think I ever want to).

OCR01403 - Pac-Man "Glass Cage"
SoulinEther replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ooooooh (though not to be proceeded by "ahhhh"). This one is real creepy. Eerie. Disturbing. Haunting. And simple. I'd actually like to hear this mix played live... some parts might have to be a little tailored, but I think if I were in a packed concert hall and the lights went out and that marimba started playing, I'd soil myself (well, I might soil myself even before the marimba starts :/). -
So the OC ReMix logo font is THIS easy to find?
SoulinEther replied to Shadow Wolf's topic in General Discussion
The sad thing is I like how it's rendered in this picture more than how it is in the OCR logo. -
This game is INTENSE! Albus Hard Mode Max Lvl. 1 is a well-needed refresher - it's the next best thing to a classic Castlevania side-scroller: I've already finished it with Shanoa and Albus on Easy/Regular Hard mode, but this hard mode with Albus is especially challenging because most bosses take you out in 2-4 shots and you can't heal yourself... Death and Eligor (whatever that man-horse thing is named) have me completely stumped. And I thought Barlowe was hard... Plus, i'm hooked on "An Empty Tome" .../endshamelesslypostinginthreadwithouthavingreadasinglepage Which is completely aided by the best castle music since Symphony or Aria of Sorrow.

It wasn't just a traffic jam! It was all of like.. urban... and American society's unjustness towards the veterans! And he didn't shoot people exclusively: there was a baseball bat ("HOW MUCH"), a pocket knife, then there was that one bag of guns... Horrible movies? I don't watch them Though Gone With the Wind was pretty dry for my tastes..

OCR01793 - Adventures of Bayou Billy "El Lagarto"
SoulinEther replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
If it was repetitive, I couldn't notice it at all. This remix. Just as it started, the first thing I thought of was Boney M (well, the 70s are beyond my time). Then.. Undercover Brother. And then... yes, Kill Bill was there. That this piece reminds me of these bands/movies does not explain why it's a solid piece, but rather it is so awesomely alive, catchy, and fun that it causes me to think of other things I enjoy(ed). muy caliente.
