OC ReMix Presents Super Mario RPG: Window to the Stars!

    January 31, 2017
    Contact: press@ocremix.org

FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 61st free community arrangement album, Super Mario RPG: Window to the Stars. The album pays tribute to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, released in 1996 for the SNES, a unique collaboration between Nintendo and Square which blended gameplay from both the Mario and Final Fantasy series. Featuring 34 tracks from 29 artists, Window to the Stars is directed by OC ReMixers Dustin "Theory of N" Lagaly & Emery "DaMonz" Monzerol, and is available for free download at http://smrpg.ocremix.org.

Window to the Stars includes a diverse group of musicians honoring composer Yoko Shimomura's fun and upbeat soundtrack (inspired by original works from Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu) in a variety of styles, including chiptune, bluegrass, klezmer, metal, EDM, orchestral, and more. Window to the Stars was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or Square Enix; all original compositions are copyright their respective owners.

"I feel that this tribute to the brilliance of Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo, and Nobuo Uematsu does the soundtrack justice," director Dustin Lagaly affirmed. "With nearly every track rearranged across 3 discs, the album as a whole portrays a sort of reimagining of the journey taken in the game itself."

The album's artwork was designed by a pair of Montréal-based artists: game developer Kristoffer Soucy, who also created the Wii U platformer Shuttle Rush, with tweaks by Roxanne Chartrand.

"Getting this project done was one big adventure for us," remarked Emery "DaMonz" Monzerol, who steered Window to the Stars to completion as co-director. "I hope listening to it all will be a big adventure for you all as well. Happy listening!"

Window to the Stars also marks OC ReMix's third Mario series album, following 2015's Super Cartography Bros., which focused on EDM arrangements of Mario map themes, and 2014's Portrait of a Plumber, which tributed the Nintendo 64's pioneering launch title, Super Mario 64.

I'll add that I've also got a pretty cool start on the first Kickstarter commission reward remix, so... stay tuned, there are some pretty cool free follow-up goodies on the way.

I actually liked PS3 - the title theme is BEAUTIFUL, and that helped quite a bit, but the whole marriage/branching thing actual felt novel to me, at the time.
PS2 was better BUT... those dungeons, those transporters.... (nightmares)
The problem with any new album is consistent, persistent leadership; would anyone be down for actually helming this & taking point?

@JenZ and I were discussing a full quadrilogy album, doing the whole original JRPG series (no Online games), and picking the best tracks i.e. not attempting to cover everything.
Would love to see this happen, but I'm tapped out at the moment...
Tentative titles were "Algol Rhythms" and "Memories of Motavia"

I've enjoyed doing the covers for this project over the last nine years, as well as making a remix for each of the ten albums. When Dyne needed someone else to step in to his producer role about three years ago, I was happy to do it so that the project could continue. And when he said he was ready to step down with the conclusion of AOCC v10, I'd already been helping to run AOCC for nearly three years and saw no reason to not volunteer to help keep it going into its second decade. I'd gotten familiar with how to handle things, Dyne and I have the same overall concept and vision for it, so, it seemed like the right thing to do.
With all of that said, I'd like to thank Dyne for letting me take on the art side of things early on, and now, for entrusting his project to me. I'll do my best to not let you folks down.
Keep an eye out in July, good people of OCR!

Also, we have private forums for the album, where you can listen to WIPs the other album remixers posted (I just posted mine) and give feedback. Anyone who confirmed their claim or sent in a WIP/finished track has access to it, so come and share! You can find it in the Private Project Subforums in the Projects forums here on OCR.

Ten years of music. I never expected to be involved in this project for ten years. I love that I've had the chance to do this for a full decade. So it is with no regrets that I am stepping back from An OverClocked Christmas and turning the project over to The Coop. While I will still be involved in the website, I will no longer be directing the project. It is my hope that this wonderful project will live on for as long as OverClocked ReMix does.
I did not arrive at this decision lightly. But to be honest, I thought it was time to pass the torch. That said, I want to thank everyone who has participated over the years in the project. I especially want to thank The Coop for all of the amazing 8bit art that he's done over the year's, as well as djpretzel for the yearly signal boosts via ReMix posts. I'm so glad to have been part of this project.

    Thank you all.

For all that is good, at least make it to 1:30. Fantastic ability to stay up on top of the melody and deliver the power that your guitar sections want. Guitar for Scars of Time was also excellent! I feel like there was even more interweaving between these themes possible, but that shouldn't detract from the good stuff here - it's great!

I'll be chatting with @JJT & @zircon - we may need some changes w/ our management approach, but we HAVE reviewed the initial round of WIPs, we'll be contacting artists where feedback is appropriate, and we'll be establishing a new timeline, soon.
If anyone has an overabundance of free time AND experience running an album, let me know on Discord if you'd be interested in helping to manage this project with us and we can talk a bit!

    (Art by Zeth)
The time has come: The definitive OCR Lufia project is officially online again (Again!)! The Lufia series has one of THE great soundtracks of the SNES era, and Bahamut wanted to honor it with an album project. This was at a time where MANY albums were being developed on OCR, and this one quietly trudged along. After some time I agree'd to help co-direct the project, but even with my help this project fell into a deep slumber of relative inactivity. Bahamut's life became too complicated to continue this in earnest, and I've had school and relative job insecurity that held me back.
While Bahamut still has other obligations in life that don't allow him to dedicate the time to finish something like this, my time has cleared up, which has allowed me to take this project 100% head on again. I will be the director of this album from this point on, with Bahamut's blessings. All of my thanks goes to him for starting and establishing this project, getting it to where it is today.
In addition, Theory of N has agree'd to co-direct this album. As the scope of the project expanded outside of my ability to control it when it... spirals to the nether, he is here to keep everything on track. So far he has done wonders behind the scenes, and I am sure he will continue to do so.
Any music from Lufia II and its DS remake will be accepted for this project. It's a compromise between the original vision (Lufia I & II's soundtrack) and the later vision (ONLY having Lufia II music); there are quite a few good Lufia I tracks that were rearranged for the DS remake, so some of those Lufia I tracks have become available again.
This is a list of the music that already has a prior claim: if you are not on this list then you don't have a claim to this music. Music that's considered a Prime Pick is music that the album really shouldn't be without - please pick one of those, if one is available, as that music is iconic. Solid picks are other great tracks from the soundtrack, though they're less iconic to the soundtrack. The tracks that would be Nice to have are tracks on the OST that are less known, and would likely not be missed if they're not on the album. However, please pick any track that suits your tastes - I will not reject a good WIP of even the lesser known tracks!
Claim (No WIP) Claim (with any WIP) Significant claim (50% WIP) Nearly finished (90-100%, without WAV) Finished (100%, WAV submitted) Reserved/Claimed:

Any track from Lufia II or the DS remake are fair game; while I will be posting a list of songs in the near future, you can make your claims now. If you're a posted (or to-be-posted) ReMixer, the claim will be held (until you miss a date). If you are not a posted ReMixer, please either PM me a sample of your work, or send a well produced WIP of the track you'd like to claim.
Here is a list of due dates for this album (2023):
No more submissions will be accepted at this time. This is the final, no exceptions submission date for the album. There have been a few folk on here that have wanted to contribute since the last album submission - which is greatly appreciated! However, hell or high water this is when this album will be submitted to the site again, so if the final product is not finished by this date, you are not going to be on the album.
Let's make a Lufia album that's truly worthy of the Gods!

I can't WAIT until blu-ray recorders/media get down to sane prices.... the prospect of being able to back up that much data to optical is really appealing...

I have to say, I appreciated the personalized contour on the e. piano partwriting. It takes good effort to take a well-known source and use your own chord progressions. For me, the soundscape could have been a bit more filled, but aside from that, this certainly stands out in a good way.

Yeah, I know, this has been done before, but now i'm doing it so THERE.
I've been wanting to listen to an artists full collective works on ocr for a while to document their growth, also so I can analyse their style and hopefully use that info to improve my own
I'm going to be picking artists from random but depending on the length of their collective works, it might take me longer than others to finish my full review. In many cases I may split my reviews into multiple parts.
Any feedback anyone has on how I decide to approach this is welcome, I am open to any suggestions to make things a little easier in terms of reading.
Without further ado, LETS DO THE THING!
