wip Secret of Mana - Sweet Night
Mak Eightman replied to Mak Eightman's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Thanks Boss! I wanted to make it woofer-like but i guess its too much. As for the strings, I have no idea how to do it in this exact case. Compression in final part, mostly caused by that weird sound which plays main theme, i think. I'll see what i can dooo.. Thx again. Just checked my mail. No respond yet. But I think I know what are you going to say:banghead: -

I'm not going to complain here: 90's - 2008 - I like it) And once in a week I'm listening Mozart's Requiem:p -
I'll try to be specific.. and.. talk english(sorry, just in case). Now I understand why I still don't hear bass. Panned Bass? In Death Metal? What? Nooo.. So this panning may also cause forcing of your guitars. Overall guitar track sounds like "delayed". I mean, no matter what you do it still on the top of the mix and sounds "everywhere"(left, right, center), so as and Bass actually. Hope you understood what I tried to say:banghead: Drums. Drums are nice but borrowed. Check your mixer's loudness indicators. Drums and guitars loudness pick should be in same dB. At least in my case it works great. Bass pick should be 1/2 from guitars and drums, and centered. Otherwise you'll never make it sound.. mm.. not noisy. I can't say anything specific about drums because I almost don't hear em. But I do hear long delay/reverb/feedback from snare. Cool, but it may ruin your mix. Dunno. But don't touch it for now;-) "Belly", string, brass stuff. Again, louder then rest of your mix. why? Reverberation, incorrect freqs cut/boost and leveling. The trick is: Brass and strings(specially brasses) has a same(close) freqs diapason as guitars. So you have lot of instruments in same freqs. Reverb increases this coincidence. Bad. Cut those freqs from orchestra's reverb(at least) and listen how it'll sounds. Now Your worst enemy is Reverberation. Someone pleas correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck with this mix Man. Hope I didn't forgot something. As for the source.. I CAN recognize it. But I have to listen very carefully for every instrument.. So it could work after some seri..us...sire..ous..e....(fuck. I hate this word) polish. But this mix sounds like remix of your prev remix:P If you want some help PM me.

Chazer Alien Shooter 1,2 RAGE - I'll remix it later, cause I want it for a loooong time. Half-Life 2 Quake 3 Unreal Tournament(all of them) Red Alert 2 Guilty Gear -
Your complain about your loudness lvl understandable. But in this case compressor won't help much. Also I kinda don't understand this "amount" of guitar tracks. Twice recorded guitar sounds great and it is lot easier to work with two rhythms, if you want "force" your rhythm record four guitars using two different riffs, just imo. I'd suggest you to start your balancing with drums, then bass(i don't hear it now btw), then synths and then guitars. Chose the loudness lvl for your mix with drums and bass, then build your mix. This method work perfect for me. Also rhythm guitars has a smooth attack, because of too much distortion, i think. This smooth makes a mudding to your mix, increase is six(?) times and you have a noise at the end. Two ways to destroy this effect: 1- rerecord/use less distortion 2- cut the freqs where distortion is the most active(Aster said about 400Hz). I'd say 250-400Hz. And.. Dude.. Ask Aster for lead guitar, plz. Hope I wasn't rude:whatevaa: Still don't get this trick about crap tone of guitars, what is tha point?

This. And I love to listen my old works, cause I made lot of fun, interesting and potential mixes. Now I understand it.

Ok guys, i hope you all had a good holidays(if you had em). Now I'm gonna take the lead here for now. I've told to Chris what I'm thinking about this "project". So here is da deal: Gar, Metal Man and you too Chris.. MUST made a WIP for this theme and POST it HERE, I'll post mine when it will be finished. Why? Because we have a different visions and thoughts. So if we take a listen for each WIP, we can find out something and chose/unite/remade or whateva. Then we'll vote. And anyone who interesting in this "collaboration proj of four dudes" will vote! What section from what WIP should be in final ReMix. Then we'll work. Don't let this colab die! I suggest to make a DEADLINE in 1st Feb! What do you think teammates and supporters? my english is bad

bass (not synth) question
Mak Eightman replied to SonicThHedgog's topic in Music Composition & Production
And this is the most annoying thing with bass guitar for me. I found two ways: distortion and distortion:whatevaa: Two types of distortion, i mean. Heavy distortion, which make attack(if you play muted with pick you can hear it clearly) only in mid-highs, brings the bass lvl to something pleasant and makes your bass "leading" instrument. In this way rhythm guitars just complementing the bass, so you have some interesting effect in rhythm section at the end. Rozo can explain it better, cause he know what am i talking about(i hope). Actually this may work for solo/lead bass. I didn't tried. The other distortion type is "ghost" dist. When the dist lvl on the pedal close to 0 and freqs do the job. In this case distortion pedal is a preamp. So this way works with slap(in my case). damn.. I need to learn english. -

mastering guitarist question
Mak Eightman replied to Mak Eightman's topic in Music Composition & Production
Forget about it.. Long time has pass since I made this thread. And now I understood how to work with loud rhythms. All you need is proper freqs cut/boost for each instrument. So EQ is your best friend. Plus "presence", should it be amp's knob or your mic position. -

Best possible listening equipment.
Mak Eightman replied to AngelCityOutlaw's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm actually using simple Philips SBC HP195 headphones made in 2001-2004 and costs to me nothing for main master and mixing. After I finished the mix, I'm check it with cheap JamVox stereo monitor for freqs, after put it into 5-1 system to check bass lvl and mixing accuracy. -
