  1. So I'll throw a little review out there as well. This track is supposed to be epic, so get that lead up to snuff! This is my genre, so I know where it should be ;-P. You need more distortion, and you should turn the tone knob on your axe down to about 6 (Intonation doesn't sound like the problem here). I'll leave 2 examples of decent lead sounds. ---->Sixto and ,very apprehensively, Me- At the bottom . <----The drums are very fake sounding, and need some new patches all around (Maybe the kick could stay, but the snare and cymbals have got to go). Xarnas was very nice ( and very thorough in his review) but I felt like a little expansion would help to see some of the problem areas. I really wanna hear your intro after it's been "epic" modified, so please get to it and give me something to enjoy! Edit* I listened to your posted remix, and I can see you have a good idea of what needs to be done, so I'll just say get to it!
  2. DAAAAAAAMMNNN!!! I almost want to accuse you of just posting the original track. The comp/editing is very solid. Shit! I had a long written post about how perfect it was and if it didn't get accepted, our world would cave into itself and some other crap, but then I heard the outro piano. It doesn't quite sound right to me when I hear it. The whole track is midi, so I;m not surprised at it, but it seems out of character with the rest of the track. Maybe a little more sustain on it? Maybe a little verb/ long delay? I don't quite know, but it stood out to me. Anyway, sick job overall. I'll "shamelessly" post my recruitment thread RIGHT HERE if you're interest in working on a project that I'm trying to get going.
  3. Hmmmm...This isn't bad at all. I agree with the snare problem. It sounds like there may be too much verb on it, them you boosted it to bring it up in the mix (just guessing). I like your string patches, they have a good feel to them (not necessarily real, but pleasing to hear). I also disliked the end. It felt to me like it ended mid progression. I would look into that a little. So far, not bad. I'll be pleased to hear the revisions made. BTW, check out how authoritative Sbeast with an Axel is. I couldn't even argue with any of his critiques. No, really, I wanted to ask him what auto -panning was, but I couldn't even try. Just...too...tough... *runs away from imminent double tap B*
  4. This song literally made me start working on remixes for OCR. I'll never forget the day... I had just discovered OCR through a mislabeled SF2 Ken video, and I listened to tracks all night from some of my fav games...I wasn't quite sold. At 4:30 in the morning I was passing out at my desk as I clicked on this track. I heard the piano, and I started to fade... then something came at 0:37. It was Sixto with 12 demons surrounding him, all playing the same embracing riff. I fell, defeated by Sixto and and his legion of darkness, but have since risen with a new goal of facing him on the epic battlefield till one of us lies defeated. Well, at least that's kind of how I remember it. True story on hearing his track while basically passed out. It's still my ring tone to this day.
  5. LOL I guess I'm the only one who was alright with the clap (Aren't trance tracks supposed to sound sequenced?). And Roz- Don't you talk about that choir effect like that! But really, It's amazing that all these guys can find things in the mix that I didn't even notice when I listened. Some true audio professionals on this site... Impressive.
  6. Ok, I'll shoot a quick review as well. One things no is touching here is timing. This song's timing gets mega sloppy in a few parts, and it's pretty obvious (the biggest one being at 0:47). It's impressive that you play your leads (like me), but you gotta get it down tight. Also, as the song progressed, I got that very familiar ad lib feeling (thats how I record my leads generally), but not the warm and fuzzy one. It sounds like you "one taked" it with whatever setting you were using and picked the best one to keep. Some parts have good solid harmonies while others are almost dissonant. Don't be afraid to break it up into different tracks (I don't even have the chops to play a track full through on any instrument). This is one of my more negative reviews, but I think if you're like me, it'll help you out immensely. I didn't really step up my game until I heard The Unholy Wars by Sixto. So I'll say keep at it and impress me with your revisions
  7. WHOOAAAAA REVERB!!!! Cyril hit it right. You can't put verb on the entire track. In this track, only use effects like that on the leads (the guitar, horns, some cymbals). There's still some pitch issues here, but they've improved. Also, think about using echoes and delays as well/instead on some instruments. They add a very epic feel, but don't move an instrument to the back line in a mix (reverb does). All things said, this is much better than what I previously heard, so you're moving in the right direction.
  8. Touche' Frog... Alright I listened again and it sounds better now. The low end is too hot. I would take your entire track and shave 3db from 30-125 Hz. Still, this is an enjoyable track and I think the production isn't bad at all. I don't comment of source usage or anything like that because frankly, I'm relatively new here and I don't know what's acceptable in those regards. You'll have to get a veteran to give you that feedback. Good luck!
  9. Spoken like a true pro Gario. I must say, I think the drums did well for the track. Everything else I completely agree with. Mids sound a bit too pronounced, and highs are probably lacking a little. The constant mild clip action is a bit unnerving to hear. The cymbal patch you're using for your swells sounds off. I would choose a higher "pitched" cymbal. The guitar setting is a little "tough" for the rest of the track. It's like having a super trash metal setting thrown in with bright pianos and soft synths. I was a Huge fan of the tempo builds when used. They created a good amount of tension without have to add instrumentation (great idea). All and all, don't feel bad about the track rejection. I have a track waiting to get rejected as well. If I didn't think the potential was there, I wouldn't post at all. Keep at it.
  10. Lol! Who cares about funding!? GO! Go find people to play this stuff (I've been "shamelessly recruiting" all over the WIP forums). But no really, even just showing interest in this project lifting off the ground helps. Thanks dude.
  11. So I listened to the newest rendition ( and I can see your working hard here. After hearing it in the mix, I'll agree with SBeast and say that there needs to be a regular bassline following the kick. Maybe have the portamento come in after 4 measures of the drums playing and tone them down in the mix a little. I like the changes made, and I would keep them. And, dude check out my sweet user bar.
  12. Thanks for the criticism on my song. Sorry to bug you again, but I have another song up for mod review that I think you guys missed. Give a listen when you get a chance.

*Edit* I'm a clown, and I missed your post saying you would get to it. Thanks dude!

  13. OK I can see where this is going. The sounds are pretty fake, but I'll try not to bash them, as I'm sure you know. The intro bass should have a little sustain on it, so there are no "dead spots" without music. The snare is downright pitiful. It needs some EQ work at both 150 Hz and 3KHz (thereabouts). The lead at 1:33 is over resonant at 350, 700, and 1400 Hz, so I would duck out a few Db on each frequency. The kick isn't really clear to me, but that's preference at that point (The bass is pretty prominent). Also, don't use echoes or delays on drums (ESPECIALLY sampled ones). It sounds blatantly bad. I personally didn't listen to your first link, so I don't know the improvement rate, but Gario said you're on the right track, and he knows his shit. I would keep at it and take every review as what it is- a chance to be a better musician. Good luck!
  14. I'll be honest; It's really tough for me to tell where the low end is unless I can download the track. I would get a Tindeck.com account (which is free) and go from there. This arrangement is decent, but the one percussive element of which you speak sounds overbearing. It's pretty obvious; To me it sounds like a floor tom. I like the variation of the instruments, but for some reason, the drums sound a little bland in general (Maybe it's just me). The woodwind lead is not bad, it just sounds sequenced (the whole track sounds very sequenced, and could use a little velocity adjustment). This track is going somewhere, I would say it needs a little more work though.
  15. Well I guess I'll shoot a review as well. I like the song choice (sucks that it's mega short). I have to disagree with The Radical Sifu on this one and say that the bass is probably too heavy for the track. I think the kick is a little heavy as well (The effects don't help it). It seems like what an 80 rock kit would sound like, but your covering and upbeat Mario track. The other instruments are decently done, but a few glare out a little. These should seems pretty clear (Intro piano, horn patch just after). I can't give a full review without being able to download the song (I would make it available, as this is very obviously a cover, so I doubt people would steal it from you). Other than that, I look forward to seeing where the track goes.
  16. The mods got to my other song, but I think this one fell through the cracks, so I'm gonna bump before I re-message them.
  17. Technology these days... What won't they think of next? Next you'll be telling me that there are ways to humanize drums in FL 9... That'll be the day Well I guess it's time to shop for some new plug-ins. Thanks dude.!
  18. I don't even have a midi interface..... *hangs head in unbridled shame* I'm probably gonna upgrade my whole rig soon, so I guess I'll just shop around (Thanks for the post back)
  19. Finally, some real feedback. Well, this pretty much confirmed my fears. I definitely jumped the gun with the sub (I didn't know any better) because all the mentioned issues were the one's I was worried about. This was my first attempt at using some FL drums rather than playing them, so the results were a little iffy. I'm also constantly getting killed for my patches, but I'm limited by my Korg N1's library (I don't sequence anything but drums). I guess I just need to really sit down and scroll through until I find a good string setting. Well, back to the drawing board. I'll prob pull the prior sub and re-sub once everything's balanced out. Thanks guys, I needed to know.
  20. Lolz on myself for completely shameless recruiting. You want it to stop Gario? Remix a song Sbeast, You can't get any more credible than Axel of SoR2. It literally makes your other post look more authoritative (And I already read it before) Lol. Who the hell judges the validity of a remixer's post based on his avatar anayway? LMAO I have problems.
  21. Damnit Gario! Beat it! I wanna tell ppl that the EQ is too hot... Well, since you beat me there, I guess I'll just add that the performance, though well done, sound very mechanical (no human feel to be found). I think that you need to play with some velocity settings to get this track to sound "right". That said, the over-all quality seems pretty good. Good harmonies and a decent bass track definitely are a nice touch.
  22. I guess I'll be the first to review. This track is very solid. I enjoyed it considering it's not my genre of music at all. Production wise, I have little to say. You kept everything well balanced. The choir effects at 2:57 caught my attention especially. Really, nothing bites (sounds like shit) through the whole track. I didn't like the lead setting at 0:50 all the way through to 1:17; I would change that setting to something a little more epic/sustaining. For a first post, this is very impressive and I would switch your thread to "Mod Review" (done by editing your first post and going advanced) Good luck!
  23. Hey Emunator, I posted 2 songs to Mod Review in the WIP forums, and I'm trying to catch some feedback. Whenever you get a chance, if you could give them a quick listen with a little feedback.
