  1. Haha you are absolutely insane! I did like maxing out my FF8 characters on the islands closest to heaven/hell though (hopefully I'm remembering that correctly). I liked that in Super Mario RPG the level cap was low as shit. I think it was 30. That made it feel a lot more rewarding to gain levels. Oh and selecting those bonus stat increases <3
  2. Is there a reason this video is unlisted on YouTube?
  3. Just stumbled across the rough recordings I had for my WIP ideas for Rose Town (and one for Seaside Town which I had a complete arrangement for but never got around to programming drums and shipping a full on WIP) and now I am bummed I didn't push through on those to get on the album. Maybe one day I'll get those out as normal remixes (but then again if I were to remix stuff from SMRPG without being restricted to unclaimed album tracks I'd probably do a different tune). Still stoked about this album coming out soonish though!
  4. AAAHHHHH Congrats on finally shipping this thing (also sorry for briefly sidetracking the thread I am a terrible person) Is there anywhere to stream the album to listen to it without downloading it? I mean I'm going to download it anyway, but I was just wondering. Also still totally down to be a Gilgamesh arm or to do Beastmaster since aggressive is my strong suit (I think I have a pretty rad idea for a death metal remix of the boss battle theme) But I totally understand if you'd want someone more veteran. Also wouldn't be able to work on much til Summer starts because I am pre occupied with stuff for other OCR albums as Strader knows all too well. Either way I'm about to finally listen to this album, and I'm pretty excited. So glad it's finally out.
  5. This sounds like it'll be an awesome album. I noticed there's no love for Dark Duel Stories in the Yugioh section though. That game was my jam.
  6. For some reason I don't really think of OLR as being joke songs so much as the website being a parody of OCR. The music that I listened to on there just seemed like lower quality, but still reasonable remixes. But yeah that probably counts. Fuck it bring back VGMix
  7. We should make one. edit: funny that this is my 69th post. edit again: I only have 69 posts? Shit I guess I lurk way more than I post!
  8. More video game covers! Of classics and less popular tunes alike. Bit Brigade is the best thing you'll ever see live. Stuff like Metroid Metal and Armcannon kicks ass too, but I'm also always down for some straight cover action a la Minibosses or The Advantage (or Vic Viper the new gods of straight covers). Live Jazz/funk VG remixes kick ass as well (Super Soul Bros and The Oneups are always great). When it comes to stuff that isn't only VGM I love bands like Marshall Art or Auto Scroll who do lots of chiptunesy stuff mixed with live instruments (but they do VG covers too). Oh and Super Guitar Bros brings tears to my eyes every time. When it comes to stuff I'd be down to have more of I always lean towards metal so more stuff along the lines of Viking Guitar or Armcannon would rule. Or go all out on the ridiculousness factor and party it up like Kirby's Dream Band.
  9. I have my remix arranged and everything. I honestly wanted to get mine done like 2 months ago, but I've been sooooo busy with work. Time flies man! Throwing drums together this week to be able to lay down a solid WIP
  10. Omg I have a Vince Gill number of 4 as well You know what this means!? It means that @SnappleMan has a Vince Gill number of THREE, therefore OCR is only three degrees of separation rather than four. Case in point: http://www.6degreesofvincegill.com/link?a=Vince%20Gill&b=Snappleman
  11. Yo dude I would be super down to collab on a prog metal version of Danger! Not sure if you're trying to do that. Danger is the first track that comes to my mind when it comes to stuff from SoM that I would want to do . I believe you already heard my stuff because you hooked me up with some feedback on my thrash metal FF6 remix in the workshop section (which I still have to respond to...haven't had a ton of time in the past week!) With that said, if anyone wants a collaborator I'd love to work with someone on a remix! I can lay down guitar tracks/solos and help with arranging, but mixing/production is not my strong suit. I'd loooove to claim Flight of the Unknown if that's cool. I don't have any posted remixes, but I'm doing stuff for the FF3, FF8 albums and others as well(I probably wouldn't be able to get a solid WIP together until I make more progress on those in the next month or two though). I'd also definitely be open to collaborating on it with people. Have a few ideas for an arrangement. You can check out the stuff I did for DoD or just click the Soundcloud link in my sig to hear my other remixes. I'm pretty new to the scene so the mixing in my 2015 entries isn't so great, but I think my most recent FF6 DoD entry sounds pretty good. If I can't claim any tracks then I'd love to collab on someone else's.
  12. I just thought of a really sick idea for Trevor Belmont vaguely in the style of Hulk Hogan's theme with cheesy 80's guitar riffs. Probably wouldn't have much time to get a WIP together in the next month or two though because I'm pretty overcommitted to other OCR albums. Definitely interested in collaborating though I'm primarily an electric guitar player, but can also lay down some bass. Got some DoD entries on my Soundcloud (check my sig) if you're interested. I mostly do metal stuff and I'm pretty n00b when it comes to mixing/production. Most relevant to the type of music I'd expect on this soundtrack though would be this DoD entry I collaborated on from last month, which is super cheesy synth/J-Fusion sounding stuff...actually the exact kind of cheesily epic tune I'd expect for a professional wrestler's theme. Seriously this is a pretty genius idea. Love the name "CastleMania"
  13. Great idea for a thread. I'm sure if it belongs in another forum, mods will move it. Do you plan on maintaining this whenever new projects start or statuses change? Also is there a reason the FF8 album isn't included, or is that because it hasn't moved over to the projects forum yet? Man I wish I had infinite time so I could try to do stuff for all of these albums. I'm kind of already overcommitted when it comes to doing album tracks though.
  14. Just realized I never posted this in here, but: I was on a flight a little while ago and I made a Post MAGFest Depression hotline for all of you to call. it's basically an anti depression SEGA hotline where you call a phone number and select a happy SEGA tune to listen to. Because who doesn't get cheered up after hearing some classic uplifting SEGA music? Try it out by calling (855) 635-SEGA (or 855-635-7342) Let me know if you have any SEGA-gestions (sorry for that extra pun).
  15. Seriously the thought of having Missingno in a modern game makes me so excited. I hope they count for that edge case in their programming and just let people use Missingno Like it really wouldn't be that big of a deal to do, and I doubt they'd just forget about that possibility.
  16. I was hoping this thread would include a video of every time Ash ever told Pikachu to use thundershock in the anime. But man...childhood me would be so excited about Pokemon Go. Adult me is excited too. But adult me has to catch up and learn about all of the new Pokemon that were added after Gen 2 so I don't get totally wrekt.
  17. Whoa that sounds amazing. I'd be down to be one of those 8 arms, but seems like that would already be a pretty stacked lineup. I just did guitar on a giant collab with Snappleman for DoD too haha. This would be cool because I'm basically already committed to arranging tracks on other OCR albums that I'll be working on for the next couple of months. That makes being a small part of a big collab sounds pretty swell. I'm a n00b to the scene though. Either way I'm already way excited for Fire and want to hear this haha.
  18. Yeah but my other entry got knocked right out of the top 3 into 4th place No more shiny little badge thingy on their new website for me. (Still in first with that other one though! But the FF6 one was my baby) Either way I did say earlier in this post that numerical rankings were meaningless...and I'm lucky that Streifig let me enter regardless because I misread the deadline and sent mine in basically an hour late (AND we didn't have time to finish mixing it, which was totally my fault). But still... I WILL NEVER FORGIVE DoD! Also in other news I threw my FF6 entry into the workshop if anyone wants to go give feedback and tear it apart before I send it to the panel. Don't worry, seeing Carbo and zykO headbanging to my entry will never be taken away from me so I will still be happy even if you tell me that I am terrible.
  19. My main complaint from this MAGFest outside of getting WAY too drunk Saturday night in the shizz suite would be not getting enough hang time in with zykO. Dude was pretty stretched thin at his first MAG trying to get facetime in with everyone he's never met irl haha. But we managed to get some solid kazoo jamming in on our way back from Nandos. Seriously though it was an amazing weekend. MAG Underground made it for me. So much awesome music. Two Bit Brigade sets in one day!? Unreal man.
  20. Hey there! First time posting to the WIP forum, but I finally have a remix I feel would be up to par for OCR standards. This one is from my third time entering Dwelling of Duels, and I managed to snag third place during MAGFest/Collaboration month. For collaborators, I recruited old bandmates and friends of mine from the thrash metal scene. These include bassist Mike Dreher from my old band Condition Critical, Tony Barhoum from the same band to do two guest guitar solos, and drummer Brian Westbrook from Lich King who also helped with production. I did all of the arrangement and all of the guitar playing except for Tony's two solos (we both had two guitar solos in this remix though). Here's the source Here's the song uploaded to the Dwelling of Duels YouTube page Here is a direct link to download a WAV file of it from our Google drive folder Here it is on my Soundcloud Source breakdown if you want it: 0:00 - 0:21 This is a reference to both the original Veldt theme and the intro to an Artillery song which the name of this remix came from. We tried to make the drums a mix between the Veldt drums and the drums from that song. The guitar riff has the same rhythm as the Artillery song, but with the notes from the first section of the source tune. 0:22 - 0:44 Original riff that I wrote to go under the lead coming up. 0:45 - 1:05 Lead guitar with the main melody from Wild West (the source tune). 1:06 - 1:27 The next section from Wild West played as a thrash riff with lots of triplets. The lead coming in after the first break is the melody from the section of Wild West that the rhythm guitar is referencing. 1:29 - 1:39 Guitar solo by me. The rhythm guitar under the solo is the bassline from the last section of the source loop. 1:40 - 1:50 This is a thrash rendition of the same section of the source that the rhythm guitar during the solo was playing. 1:51 - 2:08 Guitar solo by Tony Barhoum over a clean guitar section that is a direct reference to an Artillery song. 2:09 - 2:32 Guitar solo by me over an original riff. These two solo sections are the only parts of the song that have no references to the source. 2:33 - 2:53 Thrash riff directly based off of the source tune. If you couldn't tell from the rhythm guitar, the lead comes in halfway through this section making it more obvious. 2:54 - 3:14 Thrash riff also referencing the same section of the source. This one is a little more liberal/obscure because it was originally supposed to be another guitar solo from someone who did not have enough time to record their parts before the DoD submission deadline. If there is anything I am specifically asking for suggestions on, it is whether or not to just take this section out entirely, record another solo over it, or just leave it be. 3:15 - 3:49 Breakdown riff directly from the source. 3:50 - 4:00 Drums directly from the intro of the source tune. Mike also decided to lay down a little mini bass solo over this section, which I didn't originally plan on but think it sounds rad. 4:01 - 4:43 The rhythm guitar plays the main melody from the source tune, and halfway through this section Tony Barhoum goes into another guitar solo. 4:44 - 4:56 Short ending riff not from the source. Sorry for the long post, but hopefully the breakdown was helpful The arrangement is pretty liberal, but after going through the breakdown I'm certain that it passes the 50/50 guideline because just about every section contains a reference to the source, if not is directly from the source. The sections I would think could be left out would be the intro (since the source reference is admittedly pretty obscure), the second guitar solo over the clean section, the third guitar solo, the section I mentioned that I would consider taking out, and the ending. These together add up to 1:56 worth of non source out of 4:56 worth of total music. That means it's about 60% source, and that is me being harsh and not counting two sections that do have references to the source. Unless I am an idiot and miscounted. Thanks a bunch for any feedback you're willing to give on this!
  21. Whoooooaaaaaaa now that's a big deal. I always just assumed this project would fall to the wayside. The music is already done though? That's so awesome!
  22. I'm so stoked to have placed in the top 3 with two entries during a MAGFest DoD. Even though numerical placements are basically meaningless. I remember at the listening party a lot of people were drunk and there were technical issues with the speakers and everything. But regardless I'm happy that I was able to make some music that people enjoyed. Seeing CarboHydroM rocking the fuck out during my entry was so amazing to me as someone who looked up to him as a guitar player and a remixer for years. Also hearing Snappleman say that my entry was rad made me super happy because he is usually pretty harsh. He didn't say "2/6" Also the fact that with my other entry, we won first place with a straightforward cover just makes me happy. Straight covers usually don't do well in DoD because people like hearing heavily arranged stuff. But I still love remixes and covers of all kinds. We just happened to pick a tune that was crazy enough by default. DoD and OCR are very different things, and I think that is good. There's no reason people should be talking about which one is more valuable. DoD is a lot of fun and it's a good excuse to force yourself to get some remixes out there on a regular basis. I think I'm going to take my entry over to the workshop, spruce it up a bit and then submit it to the OCR panel at some point. Oh also @zykO fucking killed it with that Sonic 2 entry. I was dying laughing when I first heard it. You can never go wrong with adding Shizz memes to your DoD entry haha. That song was like the official theme of MAGFest for me. I wish it never ended
  23. Hell yes let's celebrate! I'm literally listening to this right now as I saw this thread.
  24. Hey there OCR buddies! I just realized that MAG is starting tomorrow and nobody has posted about this. This Saturday is going to be amazing for anyone who loves live VG music. So the folks over at The Shizz got the amazing opportunity to have a space to run their own show thanks to the MAG staff being so kick ass and valuing the community aspect of MAGFest. We decided to book a bunch of really rad video game remix/cover bands to make this weekend as amazing as possible for all fans of live music. We managed to book some bands who we think are essential to having a good time at MAGFest including mainstays like Super Guitar Bros, X Hunters and Marshall Art as well as newcomers like Vic VIper and The Mountain Chiefs. Carbohydrom's new band is even playing Also TWO Bit Brigade sets in the same day? What more could anyone ask for!? I am extremely excited for this, and hope to see a ton of you raging with us. Here's the official flier/lineup:
  25. I never really noticed this thread, but I've been streaming at least once a week recently (usually on Thursdays). Not playing games or music, but I've been writing code on my stream So if anybody wants to watch some programming, check out my live coding stream once a week: http://www.twitch.tv/sagnewshreds (I guess you'd put "programming" in the category parentheses for listing this one) It's been a ton of fun and there's a surprisingly healthy audience for it that's been growing. I'll be streaming again this upcoming Thursday and I'll either be writing some JavaScript or working on some iOS stuff.
