  1. There's a program out there that's dirt cheap and nearly completely resolves the issue of getting your songs to sound good on every set of speakers out there. http://www.har-bal.com I'm still learning how to use it properly, but so far it's been the best teaching tool ever for learning how to get my mixes sounding right anywhere I listen to them. The basic premise is that it shows you, visually, which frequencies are out of whack and will correct them for you without compromising quality and overall volume. It's pretty amazing. Check it out and see what you think.
  2. So, even though that works without modification, could Nintendo still render it useless with a simple firmware update? Or is it free of that sort of thing?
  3. wow, I can't wait to text chat. I also can't wait to have a keyboard accessory next to my huge pile of wii accessories that now fill up my coffee table entirely. yeah...can't wait for that.
  4. I love rocking out to OCR tunes at home, in the car, at work and wherever else. Good times. It's hard to say how often, because I often listen to music in spurts, or I become obsessed with a new album (Unicorn Dream Attack comes to mind) and listen to that non-stop. Then I'll go on a vg tune rampage and listen to lots of stuff in one sitting or whatever. I guess it all depends on what I'm in the mood for at any given time.
  5. The ken ardency kit is awesome. I used it on my ToP remix and still love the sound of it. I may use it again. NS is awesome too. I guess I use EZ Drummer for the instant gratification/wide range of velocities/humanization combo. With fries.
  6. srsly, if that existed I'd be all over it. Some great suggestions have been made, so I'll just throw in my 2 cents for what I use on all my rock songs... For 6 string electric guitar: Amplitube 2.0 or I just run my guitar through a POD. For electric bass guitar: Hardcore Bass XP (awesome VST w/tons of great bass sounds) For drums: EZ Drummer or Drumkit from Hell (which for some reason appears to be discontinued - new one on the way?) I use EZDrummer myself, but when I can afford it, I'll get DFH. As far as programs that run and record all that fancy stuff, I use Sonar.
  7. Bad-ass. There's plenty of sonic goodness to be had here. That part at 1:30 really gets me. It's totally transporting. I just really like how this track moves along from one part to the next. it really makes for a fun listen. It's very visual too. It conjures up so many images as I'm listening. Very colorful. You rock, zircon!
  8. What a delicious progression, especially towards the end there. I wonder what this would sound like if the guitars were brighter. Nice mixing all around for the most part. I'm enjoying this track a lot so far.
  9. Yeah, why can't we just skip the format war altogether and go straight to downloadable HD movies? I'm running out of living space here!
  10. Since you're iffy about it, you can try and download a demo of it at any store with a DS download station. I've tried it once. The controls take some getting used to, that much is certain. I can't say that I really took enough time with it though to get used to it. Maybe I'll give it another go some other time.
  11. I've owned a Roland V-Drum kit for years now and love it. I use it on all of my latest recordings and it's been very helpful for practicing and recording. For my tastes, I prefer the v-drums kits over anything else, especially the Yamaha kits linked to above, because of the response you get from v-drum heads. I've tried all kinds of electronic kits and nothing beats v-drums for me. They more closely mimic the response you get from a real drum head (because of the mesh heads), thus providing the kind of feedback you want when playing rolls, ghost notes and just generally feeling good the way you want drumming to feel like. They're expensive though, so you'll pay quite a price for a decent setup if you go that route.
  12. I see your point. No matter where it's held, somebody somewhere is gonna feel screwed and will likely complain about it. I know I certainly took a hit, paying upwards of $1000 for the entire trip, though I was prepared for it. Knowing that I will likely have to spend the same amount next year, I have to start saving up now. That's just the way it goes, right? I admit it was worth it though. It was a much needed experience. I just wish I knew how to keep my expenses down a bit more, without making too many sacrifices.
  13. My wife and I made this suggestion once before and heard some opposition, but I still haven't heard a solid reason yet why magfest can't be moved closer west, specifically to Las Vegas (the convention capitol of the nation, right?), because the trip would likely be less expensive (including flights, hotels, food, etc.) for most anyone attending, plus the event would be more centralized.
  14. I like comets. Hale-Bopp was a favorite of mine because of all the crazy stuff going on in the world (and in my life) at the time of its arrival. I also liked that it was so easy to see with the naked eye. I also couldn't think of anything else to use that wasn't already taken at the time.
  15. Fantastic! I can't wait to try those out. Thanks for the links, Sixto!
  16. OCR, in many ways, has relieved me of a lot of stress, which in turn has led me to have more consistent bowel movements and firmer stool. Thanks, OCR!
  17. haha, this is fantastic. There's so much style injected into this. If I haven't ever mentioned it around here before, I know I keep telling myself this over and over, but Dragon Song is one of my favorite mixes on this site. Since discovering it, I've been awaiting a new Harmony track. I've also been awaiting a new vocal track. Two birds, one stone. Bam. This track is sweet. EDIT: oooh, I just read your post where you mention that you were going for a "311 vibe". That's awesome! I'm a huuuuge fan of 311, so it's no wonder that I dig this track so much.
  18. Here comes a terminator to kill John. Here comes another one to save him. Mom and son run like hell. Rinse. Repeat.
  19. I'm not even sure why a tv series had to be made, especially taking place during the time period that it covers. The movies pretty much covered it all. I watched the premiere and thought it was kind of meh. This would have been really kick ass like 10 years ago.
  20. Yeah, I guess it turned out to be one of those love it or hate it songs, going by the reactions I've gotten from it over the past few years. Same! Jamspace was awesome, thanks to you guys. Sorry for missing my time slot during performances. I never actually knew when I was supposed to be there exactly. and here I thought all you crazy canadians knew each other.
  21. haha, that's great. Neither she or I are used to all the attention we got, so it was overwhelming to say the least, so I'm sure there were probably about 50 or so other attendees who took her by surprise as well. Good times.
  22. Our pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/pongball/MAGfest6?authkey=1cNZLSBHIyk Guys, I had a blast to say the very least. My only regret is not having enough time to really dedicate myself to hanging out with each and every one of you for massive amounts of time. Everyone I met from across all the internets were awesome. I guess now I just have to laugh about how every time I saw Taucer, we were both like "Let's jam later!" but then it never actually happened for one reason or another, but dammit, next year IT WILL happen because I feel like I totally missed out. Larry's 9th circle of hell, errr, circle of ocremix peeps (wtf did I walk into anyways?) was frightening. Though I gotta admit that having no clue what was going on was at least partly exciting, in an I-might-crumble-under-Larry's-wrath kind of way. I jammed with Zircon and some other fine folk and it was rad. I didn't know what was going on for the most part there either, but it was still fun because I was just happy to be there and be a part of it all. Wow, you guys. I'm still reeling. It was my first magfest, but certainly not my last. Consider me and the wife there next year. Much love all around.
