Because with a MIDI file you don't have to worry about production. When you write a MIDI, you're not worrying about sample choices, mastering, EQ, effects, or anything. The most you worry about is sequencing specifics (durations and velocities) and patch choices. You're just transcribing/composing/arranging, not producing.

Your joke fails. The way you're trying to use the word in the first sentence doesn't work, because the word you want is "decent." As for the topic: why aren't there more Descent remixes? Because it's not as popular as games like Sonic and Zelda. Duh.

I did manage to get on last night eventually. Played a sniper's duel with EdgeCrusher on orange_x (until the end when I switched to scout and batted him to death).

Do you know basic music theory, like chords and keys? If you don't, learn a little bit of it. Also, try to write original music too. Don't just try to arrange or "remix." That helped me a lot when I was starting out. As for a professional sound, that really comes with practice. Yoozer had the right idea: just keep writing stuff, post it up for feedback, and take the criticism to heart.

Word of advice: for the purposes of this site, we really don't want people MIDI-ripping for any reason in a remix they're going to submit here. Just FYI.

Check out the new Blue Beetle series. You can grab the first three trades. It's really fun. Atomic Robo is also great. It's written by Brian Clevinger, the guy who does 8-Bit Theater. More when I think of some.
