  1. I missed this when it was posted back in '02. Heard it not too long ago when I decided to download the torrent collections, and I'll be damned if it wasn't one of the funkiest beats I'd ever heard (both beat-wise and odd-wise). When I checked out the source, I was surprised to see how close the remix was to original. To me, this is a perfect example of taking a lo-fi source tune and bringing out the potential that the limited hardware may have held back. Good stuff, munky.
  2. Thanks man, I forgot about Star's site, but I wouldn't have remembered the url anyway. I'm sure he won't mind the link, you can always take it down though.
  3. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talkin about, Star Salzmans hilarious joke remix that was NO'd. Had it saved a while back but...Can anyone hook me up with this? I have to hear it again, man, just have to.
  4. Good to know the Ziw is still around. This didn't strike me as much as some of his other stuff, but it's not bad. I, like others, didn't take to the scratches in the beginning, but the vocal section is where they shine. Wish it was longer, too, but Ziwtra's stuff has always been rather short and sweet, right?
  5. I want to give some advice, but I'm not sure what to say. I think the concept is great and definately worth finishing and submitting. There is something about the quality that sounds a bit midi-ish to me (like a high quality midi). Not sure what the remedy would be - maybe that little extra polish is all that's needed. I'd get 'er done and post it one mo' gain as a WIP for final thoughts.
  6. Way too loud, and use the sound fx a lot more sparingly. You got a lot more to add to it, but keep working on it and it could turn out a decent "first ever shit made."
  7. Hmm, interesting spin on the main melody. I thought the drums came in too loud at the end, though. Not much else to say, as you don't have that much here to begin with. But I'm interested to see how you adapt the rest of the song.
  8. I'm no expert in minimalist style, but I'm pretty sure these isn't even a hint of the Caves melody in this. Unless were talking about a different Caves tune here... So if I had to say anything, It'd be to at least throw some melodic lines in there.
  9. Well, my first advice would be to...actually get an idea of what your doing. You said you just started throwing random crap together, and guess what it sounds like... Hmm, this makes me wanna hunt down Cid's theme from Tactics. I played that game a lot but don't remember his music...
  10. Yay for Banjo Kazooie! Right, the sound quality. While it isn't terrible, you can't help but imagine if it was better. But you know that. The idea here is very inspired, and really compliments the style of the game itself. But I agree with the above. I think the more "ridiculous" this gets, the better. It's like you attempted whimsey with a sort of reserve, if that makes any sense. I really want to hear some bended notes and the like...
  11. No, this is the right tree. I dissagree that the arrangement will hold this back form getting on OCR. Look at River of Time by AmIEvil - I'd call that mix a lot more minimal than this. Plus he said it's bare bones right now, so it should be great when it's finished. Definately work on this, Arglebargle.
  12. Nice stuff. There are some high frequencies that are a bit piercing (like at 1:10). Tone those down in the next master. As far as arrangement goes, nothing much to say besides it's brilliant! Need to make it longer? That style change you have as the ending could be extended into a whole other section, IMO. Definately submit this when your done though.
  13. I agree that the arrangment is great, especially that section starting around 3:10, with the whole stairway and mario 3 death, very awseom stuff. I think it will be even better with the drums and guitar enhancements. I would also say work on the strenght and dynamics of the instruments, but like Pzykotik I'm not really the goto guy for advice in that department.
  14. I think the 2:11 note seems out of place because that first part of the melody sounds minor, and the second half sounds major because of said note. Like Radiowar, I noticed that passage jump out of the otherwise darker mood of things. Whether it's preference or not, I think the judges will call you on it.
  15. Nice mix, im a fan of the style. Seems like it could use another instrument, maybe a synth of some sort, to take the lead or just accompany with some interesting patterns. But like you said, if overdoing it makes it worse don't bother.
  16. Wow, wish my WIPs could get this kind of attention! Anyway, I love this as much as the next guy. DnB + Guardia is my heaven. I would offer my own nitpicks, but I don't think now is the time (I know how exhausting working on the same piece forever can be). Can't wait for the rounded out piece with the ending.
  17. Is it me or are there a lot of Storms WIPs floating around lately? This sounds pretty complete to me, though I'm not adept in the genre. If I could suggest anything, I would say to add some counter meldody at later points to add to the dynamic progression. One of the better trance adaptions I'd say. (trance, right? )
  18. I was going to suggest this before I knew you wanted lyrics over it. I'm not sure if that would mess up your ideas for vocals. But I would also like to hear some sort of dramatic change in the tone during the middle, with a return to the solemn sound for the ending. Well, not too dramatic--something as simple as a tempo change would work. Good idea for this mix, I think the judges will appreciate it.
  19. Such a talented remixer with only one track. He should return to us to serve up some mo' jazz goodness, me thinks.
  20. This has that same addictive groove that Citylights had. I just couldn't stop listening to that mix over and over when it came out, and even this one's a cut above.
  21. All I have to say is, It's about damn time. Now someone do Cloud Man. and Slash Man. and all of them.
  22. I havent check the site in a while but...First, someone finally submits a MM7 remix, and now this, my beloved Tetris Attack gets some play?! Life is good. Good luck to all involved.
