  1. Ah, MST3K. I remember the first time I saw it, it came on at like... three in the morning on a station when I was living out west. It was one of the Mystery Science Theater Hour episodes featuring a Hercules movie. Sadly, when I came back the next week, the show was nowhere to be found. Where it went, and what the station did with it, who knows. I didn't see the show again until it came to the Sci-Fi Channel in '97. Then I got hooked officially and watched it to the end. I have all the episodes from seasons 8-10 recorded, and a number of the official releases from spots in the first seven seasons (all on VHS of course). Oh, and the movie too. It was a great show, one that I really wish someone would get the syndication rights for so that all ten seasons could be aired somewhere. I'd love to get to see the many, many episodes I missed.
  2. Aw, I thought this was some kind of Resident Evil mixed media kind of deal. **kicks a small rock and wanders off**
  3. I'll just drop this little oddity here... http://bullethellponies.blogspot.com/2011/09/release-v150.html
  4. I 1CCed the arcade version of Darius once. Had a small crowd and everything, and did it on my birthday to boot R-Type Final is flawed, but fun. There are a metric fuckton of ships to unlock, and multiple endings. It plays fine, but it's not as intense as the games that came before it. It's cheap these days, and still enjoyable, so it's worth picking up IMHO. Yes. R-Types has nearly arcade perfect ports of the first two games, and R-Type Delta is fantastic. If you let those slip away, I suggest having your head examined.
  5. Remake, port, enhanced port... it's just retreading old ground, which is the new status quo for S-E I guess. Probably means there's yet another redo of the first two FF games coming up soon But you know, it would be nice if they put that energy into something else... something new. A follow up to a franchise that they left behind, despite how well it was received. Like say, oh... Einhander II.
  6. It's official... Square-Enix is out of ideas. They're remaking their own games that are only a decade old. I can see doing that to the NES and SNES games, maybe even the PS1 games. But something from the PS2 era? I can only say
  7. MegaMan 10 is the tenth game in the original game series that started the franchise. MegaMan X and its sequels are an offshoot of that series. They're two different sets of games placed in the same basic MegaMan universe, with the "X" series taking place some 100 years after the original games.
  8. It's "Hurry!" in two weeks... so, a hurried "Hurry!"-type of album with multiple mixes of the same single song. That's what I got from all this in the beginning.
  9. Astro Boy (Action/Shmup) Gradius Galaxies (Shmup) Gunstar Super Heroes (Run N' Gun) Iridion (3D Shmup) Iridion II (Shmup) Metal Slug Advance (Run 'N Gun) MegaMan Zero (Action Platformer) MegaMan Zero 2 (Action Platformer) MegaMan Zero 3 (Action Platformer) MegaMan Zero 4 (Action Platformer) MegaMan & Bass (Action Platformer) Pinball of the Dead (Pinball) Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon (Turn-Based Strategy RPG) Shining Soul (Action RPG) Shining Soul II (Action RPG) Sigma Star Saga (Shmup/RPG) Sonic Advance (Platformer) Sonic Advance 2 (Platformer) Sonic Advance 3 (Platformer) Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (it's a bit different from the SNES version) (Action Platformer)
  10. http://carbongames.com/ Over two decades ago, Tecno Soft released a game for the MegaDrive/Genesis called Herzog Zwei. It got mixed reviews, in part because no one was really sure what to do with the game. It was strategy and shmup mashed together, and everything was happening in real time. It came and went, and didn't really get much of a following. However, as time went on, people began to realize that this game was a forerunner to the RTS genre we know and love today. It was doing real time battles, resource management, and allowing you to give orders to troops that they'd follow on their own, years before Dune II and the first C&C would erect the basic control template that nearly every RTS game uses today. Despite HZ's iffy reception back then, it regularly shows up in various lists of the 50 or 100 best/most influential games. But now, there's a game coming out that is so very inspired by HZ, that I'm honestly surprised the makers didn't just try and get the rights to call it Herzog Drei. Called AirMech, the game is what Herzog Zwei was... part shmup, part RTS. The graphics have obviously been updated to clean 3D models, but unfortunately, you can't get a real feel for the audio. Carbon Games is making it, and the mind(s) behind Fat Princess are responsible for this. So yeah, check it out. Those who had Herzog Zwei in the early days of the Genesis, and appreciated what the game was doing, should be pretty excited. It's coming out for various systems, with PC, 360/Live, PS3/PSN being the most likely. No release date as of yet, but I know I'll be watching for it. And for those not familiar with Herzog Zwei, here's a little video to help...
  11. And now, like Hurry!, it's going to get the living shit covered out of it.
  12. Night Slashers X Back in 1993, Data East released Night Slashers in the arcades. It was basically a Final Fight/Streets of Rage beat'em up, but with a twist. You chose one of three characters, and beat the shit out of zombies, some werewolves and such. Well, BonusJZ decided to do a port of sorts with OpenBoR. More gore, tweaked gameplay, extra animations... all sorts of extra touches to beef the game up. It's a well done conversion, and one not to miss out on if you're a zombie fan. Note: As it loads, it'll stop about halfway along. Let it sit, and it'll finish loading in another minute or so.
  13. I remember this project. I was asked to make a little banner for the original site when it was on shackspace. Then shackspace went away, as did the website for a quite a while. But, I still have this... (hit Ctrl+F5 if it doesn't play from the beginning) Anyway, I'll download the album later. Right now, I have to flee offline from the approaching thunderstorm.
  14. I avoid the typical games that get quite a bit of attention; Sonic, the Final Fantasies, Mario, games of their stature. They've already got many remixers going after them, so I tend to look to the games that get ignored by the majority of the remixing community. Granted, I'm not going boycott the like of Mario 64 if I get an idea, but I've always firmly believed in exploring other games that aren't constantly in the spotlight. With so many games that have wonderful soundtracks, yet few (if any) remixes, there's a lot of material out there to play with. Now yes, you take a risk in no one listening to your remix (it's disheartening, the number of people who won't give a remix a listen if they're not familiar with the source song). And yes, I know some people are all about making sure they get as much exposure as they can by remixing a well known game/franchise. But come on... with all the older systems that now have music file types that can be played in Foobar, WinAmp and them, there's no excuse beyond closed mindedness and laziness to not expand your video game music horizons. The files are free, the players are free, so why are there still so many games being left out? The world doesn't need yet another remix from Final Fantasy VI, or Sonic 3, but it sure as hell could do with some remixes from the likes of Gargoyle's Quest II, Spellcaster and Master of Monsters.
