I got into music when I was about 14. So that's 5 years ago by now. -
What headphones or monitors (speakers) should I buy?
OverCoat replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
I think those around-the-back headphones fall off the least. Have you tried those kinds yet? Normal headphones and earbuds, I imagine, are shit for moving around [like cardio]. Maybe you can just use a stereo unless you work out in a gym and don't want people to know you do jumping jacks to Kraid's Lair. Which is an understandable feeling, believe me -
Learning Cubase for a digital audio class. Any tips?

You have Reason, so it's probably doable, but you HAVE to know what kind of channel the guy wants to run. There's a difference between Lifetime and Spike TV, for example. The material on the TV station pretty much defines what you will write. If you can tell me what kind of format he's gonna be running, I can help you out with some ideas.

E-MU 1212 Headphone monitoring problem
OverCoat replied to -RK-'s topic in Music Composition & Production
! Well, usually, it's Left/Mono, and Right. Just putting the plug in the left one gets you monaural sound, therefore, your problem. I've seen signal splitters but not the other way around, but isn't there a headphones jack also on that thing? If not, I think there are two-pronged headphones you can buy or maybe your speakers have a headphone jack in them. I wish mine did -

112kbps-320kbps MP3 vs. FLAC VGRemixes?
OverCoat replied to Audity's topic in Music Composition & Production
indistinguishable to what? CD quality? Quality doesn't stop at CDs That's why we have DVD-A and Hi-Def CDs and SCDs and all that. That said, I think a partial mirror site of sorts that hosts FLAC and/or other lossless formats would be a good idea. I know a few people [not a lot, though] that prefer flac encoding over mp3 because hard drive space isn't so limiting anymore. -
hehehe... jerker I love the names they come up with.

Argosy desks seem a bit costly, yeah. I'm with EKM, sort of. It's not hard [or at least expensive] to be your own carpenter I don't think it's unreasonable for a guy to know how to build. I'm disappointed they never taught me how in school. You can probably build something identical to those desks your own for at least 1/5th of the price.

I started when I was 14. THAT MEANS I'M BETTER THAN YOU Also, I wouldn't get the Express version of FL if I were you. It doesn't do nearly as many things as you'd like, in fact it omits very enjoyable and usually necessary functions of the program [like the piano roll]. One thing you have to understand is that professional music software is expensive. Many would argue FL isn't really "professional software" but whatever. Professionals use it, so it's professional, see? Anyway, professional anything means you pay more for a quality product, because normally people HAVE that money. Even taking that into account, FL Studio is cheap for what it does. Maybe you can really really suck up to your parents or something

The "who uses what" thread
OverCoat replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Music Composition & Production
I have added Renoise to my list. Doesn't mean I know how to use it, but we'll see... -
Ever since a game appeared which had doors. It's cruel to have flat textures of doors that can't be opened And of course, if there are too many locked doors, the game is a bit linear, which is getting more and more looked-down upon as technology improves and storage space increases. I would excuse Silent Hill though, since it's on the PSX, but probably not Silent Hill 4

It's fine if you use the demo versions. It's only illegal if you modify the program to get rid of the limitations of the demo version.

I'm posting on Doulifee's forum now. Name of "Pardessus" get it? XD

Text-to-sing prog or vst?
OverCoat replied to Less Ashamed Of Self's topic in Music Composition & Production
Voices of the Apocalypse http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=QLVOTAGS it has a word-builder tool, if you don't want synth-choir... though, I guess technically it's still synthesized, just a bit better than your average speak&spell... Costs quite a bit though. -
So your friend helped you out but he doesn't want to get credited? Weiiiiird
