The song that made you want to remix

For me it was definitely Secret of Mana, which also happened to be the first ReMix I made as well. I would love to do an entire album of Mana ReMixes and just let loose on it...those melodies and the imagery of that game are strong with me, I'm feeling the pull. I salute Kikotu! Thank you for the amazing music.

There was never a song that made me want to remix. I got into music out of inspiration from my beloved brother Shariq "DarkeSword" Ansari. When I was little (we're talking like 10 years old), he wrote all kinds of music at home, using Fruity Loops. After I saw him do video game remixes, I basically wanted to copy him and do it too. He and OCR both taught me basic musical concepts (comp and production alike), and then I began college to study music and mathematics, and now I'm here.

I am sure that I dreamed of remixes subtly in the back of my mind before I learned of OCRemix, but Malcos' track "Dirty Beta" set it off for me. I didn't care for the techno beginning, but when it reversed and slowed down into a slow hip hop beat, I heard the genius and decided that I wanted to try remixing. Shit, brother Malcos was one of my influences that inspired me to start music period. Certainly not solely, but it was a strong enough push or pull.

I'm pretty sure it was the Stage 1 theme from Ghouls 'N Ghosts. I wanted to learn it on my little half-sized K-mart keyboard, and so already had to kind of remix it a little. There were others like the Stage 1 theme from Altered Beast and the ending song from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest that were done the same way around the same time, but I think it was the G'nG game that got me into it all first. Though, to be honest, it was after I heard "Into the Deep Blue Sky" (BGM 6) from Master Of Monsters that I really tried in earnest to make a piano-only remixed version of a more complicated tune.

It wasn't a song I wanted to remix, it's remixes I've heard. In middle school when I discovered this site, I heard things I thought I would never hear. Once I came across "One Girl in All the World" and all of Æ's remixes, it was a done deal.

Actually, there's one more track I should mention:

Gentle Wind by Ailsean (from the Time and Space album) was the track that made me want to get good at electric guitar. To this day, when I am testing out a new guitar or pedal or amp or pretty much any sort of electric guitar-related gear, the very first thing I do to test it is play the chorus from this track.

Zelda 2 Thelonius High Temple

And of course Disco Dan's old tracks, especially this one http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00353

as well as

I even went so far as to sample one of the pads on that heat man remix, lol.  Back in the days before I knew how to make a synth.

Of course Robert Miles had a huge influence on me back when I started (it's obvious if you've heard my Dragon Warrior remix).  Techno was really new to me back then, and I was really excited about it.

My friends and I found OCR back in 2003 in my high school programming class as freshmen. The first OCR I heard was...

I haven't stopped listening. Started remixing during undergrad music school, and started learning to produce in the last two years.

I also have an obsession with remixing Gerudo Valley. I blame it on hearing djpretzel's "Gerudo Interlude" (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00368) early on.

there's a rock band called avenged sevenfold? it's a band that have a lot of songs where it feels they wanted to make a song that's like arranged and new, but force themself to only use their normal rock instruments and no more....maybe they are afraid the songs sound too different or want to sound the same when playing live?

but yes they are what really made me start thinking i wish i can change songs i like. the first song i ever tried a remix was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VUrskFjfhc

parts of the song sound really happy and i made a midi that sound like spyro 3 music. it was fun n.n
