m68030 Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 Street Fighter II 'Blanka Braziliamix' I really dig this mix. The Brazilian flavor just makes me wanna howl and make electricity go through my skin for some reason. The instruments are wonderful, nice and crisp. Excellent work here. I really enjoyed it. Quote
Jeff Posted April 12, 2003 Posted April 12, 2003 McVaffe owns Street Fighter remixes. What can I say? Quote
Tex Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 The brazilian flavor just makes me wanna howl and make electricity go through my skin for some reason. A good reason, of course... McVaffe owns Street Fighter remixes. What can I say? Nice work! Good job! Great stuff! Excellent!... Wow! BRAAAAAAZIIIIIILLLLL!!!!!!! Quote
lady zelda Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Don't remember much of the music from Street Fighter, but right off the bat, you can feel how this remix maintains that street-fighter vibe, yet adding a Brazilian flare that fits perfectly with it. This is perfect to just randomly put on at a party. Then everybody, gamers and non-gamers alike, will groove along with their improvized kung fu moves and then you've got someone else bustin' out doing capoeira/break dancing, i.e. just plain fun! and will never cease to be. OceansAndrew Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I really like the backing instruments on this, but the lead instrument (sounds like a koto?) isn't really doing it for me. It would have made a good backing instrument as well, and I think a nylon string guitar would have been a better lead. Some cool melodic twists though, and the beat is very driving. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Great drive in this, I'm really tapping my toes to it. I'm really surprised this has so few reviews! It's a really great track! The percussion really keeps the momentum, and while I haven't played Street Fighter games (yes, seriously...I suck at fighting games), I can recognize that this keeps the feel of the original, yet gives it's own flavor. Nicely done. Quote
Flare4War Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Very chill, very very cool. I groove on this. Quote
Eino Keskitalo Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I like this! The lead instrument sure sounds the same from note to note, but the variations it plays on the original melody are great! --Eino Quote
WillRock Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 What? No love for this remix? The first time I heard this one, I wasn't sure about it, but it has grown on me over time Not Mcvaffe's best by any means, but certainly worth a listen Quote
Master_Yoshi Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I too have no clue why this mix doesn't get more love. It has all the required elements to be a great mix: Good beat, awesome energy throughout, and some very tight instrumentation. I like it. And I don't even like Blanka's stage music from the original street fighter. How's that for a slice of awesome!? Quote
Bahamut Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 This is kinda nice but more needs to happen still. Quote
Rexy Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Blanka, nice. I had fond memories of overusing Blanka myself in the times I played Street Fighter 2 in the arcades as a kid, if only because of his ability to shock people! So what we have here is a good safe take on the source, with some nice drive on more worldly instrumentation. I'm fine with most of it fitting the roots of Blanka as a character, but I'm not really sure about the choice of having a Shamisen as a lead unless it's towards homaging Capcom itself. Arrangement-wise not a lot goes on, but there's been a good choice of having the second A section before the first B section that came in taking the A section melody into a counterpoint. Even then there's been some lightly more varied accompaniment writing leading towards the end, and it helps give it that kind of lift. Considering the track is nearly 12 years old it managed to fit the scope reasonably well for itself; the soundbank, while also showing its age, actually feels mostly well manipulated for me with a great amount of credit going towards the strings for some good expressive slow attack movements here. I'm not too sure about the repetitive drums though; it can be excused due to age, but it kind of keeps the track feeling more chilled rather than energetic, but considering the artist at hand - McVaffe in a past female alter ego - it's probably not a bad thing. So as a sucker for Blanka, I'm cool with it, though I hope one of these days - outside of the site's SF2 albums - there'd be a remix that would take the source to the next level. And we hope to see more of McVaffe soon too Quote
Crulex Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 For it's age, great sound to it. It's not the most expansive ReMix around, but it does reenforce what was good about the original Blanka theme so well, and the instrumental choice following a world genre is great for Brazil's monster. Certainly not my favorite mix from McVaffe, but a great piece of music at the least. Quote
TheCD1 Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 A testament to this remix, as well as the to the source itself, this composition still holds up. This Blanca-main wants to go back in for another round. Quote
