  2. I recently stumbled across a kinda mystical soundtrack from Final Fantasy 14 with a pretty famous melody from Final Fantasy 1. The track is called "The mushroomery", which is a really immersive remix of the soundtrack "Matoya's Cave" from the very first Final Fantasy. This not only gives you the power to manage your all-important house cleaning without magic brooms that do all the swish-swish-aroo. It is also - together with a bit of good ambience ala soft light, candlelight and the scent of incense - a really pleasant soundtrack for studying (not only for studying the arcane arts). In this case, I'd recommend a radically extended version of this track: I guess this is my contribution to a Happy Halloween. ... PS: If anyone has a good tip for a really terrifying horror movie (not some blunt splatter stuff - rather something with an interesting story and some subtle psychological horror that goes straight to the core), let me know. ))
  3. I really like the vocals and the gated pad. I love how MkVaff honors the source music by adding rhythmic elements and a sense of polish.

  10. We need more new jack swing! Severely under represented genre with VGM. This is a fun track with excellently sung vocals by Alvic. I'm also a sucker for well used orch hits! For me there's two major issues and one less so. One, the arrangement is too conservative and close to the original source. Now, you've nailed the genre adaption, but it's still too close. The second major issue is the drums don't have enough variation and are stuck and static on the same pattern for most of the track. Nothing wrong with the pattern itself as it feels very appropriate for the genre. It just doesn't change or have parts added or subtracted as the song progresses. Give us some variety to change things up and give a sense of progression aside from section changes. For me the minor issue is the lack of weight in the bass, and that could be because it's quieter then the other parts. Compression might help bring it out and give it the beef I think of when I think of that particular 90s sound. The other production feels mostly solid to me, the vocal processing was handled very well in particular. The fadeout ending isn't great but it doesn't bother me either. Wish I could give this the nod, but the closeness to the source and autopilot drums kept this playboy out of the club. NO

  12. Ah, here we are in the 90s! I love the orch hits. The vocals are very well done, lead and all backing vocals sound great to me. The instrumental though, by comparison, sounds weak. The instruments are quiet compared to the vocals, and as proph pointed out there isn't any kind of padding, the guitar is carrying the burden of backing chords, and it is barely audible. The piano is only ever playing whole notes. The bass is very quiet in the mix. The guitar solo is nice though! The pacing and groove of the piece is very static; the drums play the same pattern over and over with very few changes or fills. Fadeout ending, boooooo! This mix has a lot going for it, I think with some mixing tweaks the soundscape could feel much more full and balanced. But the arrangement is repetitive, and the bigger issue is that it is a straight cover of the source song. It has the same pacing, energy, general feel, same lyrics. Other than being in a lower key, and the addition of the fun 90s elements, it is the same song. That's way too conservative for OCR. Fun listen though, and really nice vocal performance and processing! NO
  13. I came here by strange means. I'd never played Final Doom's "TNT: Evilution" episode but I have been listening to some of Ashley's Final Doom remixes for a long time. I was playing a fan made Doom .wad recently that used the track "Legion of the Lost" and it instantly sounded familiar. I couldn't place it - my mind went to Golden Sun and then Xenogears, but I couldn't find the match. Eventually I pulled apart the .wad file and found it was sourced from Final Doom and then the connection was made - I had first heard the track as an OC Remix. That remix was "Memoriam". The comments section there led me to Ashley's website, where the most recent post from 2020 talked of his passing. Incredibly sad to hear this as I really enjoyed his work. I know this post is old but thanks for sharing your visit.
  14. Still listening in 2024. My 2 year old son loves this song.
  15. Could not post track in OP. Here it is. http://sndup.net/t82qk
  16. Here's one to you, alph lyla. Cheers.. thanks for all the great feels. It wasn't intended as tribute, but I feel I have outdone myself, and it's a reasonable conclusion. I suppose it could equally be a Spencer Nilsen tribute.. Heh. I wear my influences on my sleeve. If you dig Capcom, and butt rock, honestly who doesn't, enjoy this one. https://www.bandlab.com/track/311eb4a5-a894-ef11-8474-6045bd375453?revId=2d1eb4a5-a894-ef11-8474-6045bd375453
  17. Uplink OST is highly recommended. i think that is done by 100% demoscene musos. i always end up listening to that one all the way through whenever it shows up on my mp3 player. even though i never played the game.
  18. Here's a little arrange of Silent Hill 2 'True', also containing short leitmotifs from 'Theme of Laura Reprise', 'Promise Reprise' as well as 'Silent Hill theme' from SH1. First time I'm using guitar prominently in a remix (please don't kill me) and attempting to mix it with proper panning, etc. Not trying to fool any of the talented guitarists here of course. Just having a go at putting the fine work of OCR resident Sages, Seph and Josh to good use with this fun learning experiment. Hope it's enjoyable somehow, and happy Halloween season to y'all! 🎃 The main source arranged:
  19. https://on.soundcloud.com/s3n7ZLhGUGTeCv456 I am probably going to "drop" a different REMIX here on OCRemix.org in the near future, but I am seeing it will VERY LIKELY not be literal enough to pass here. A 5:45 song with 1:30 of a literal depiction from the video game track. Hmmm.... LOOK: SOUNDCLOUD This is preliminary work in a REMIX song for OCRemix.org. I hope to complete it someday! The upper treble portion of the BOSS theme is intended to be included in the 2nd or 3rd iteration of the bass alteration. Also showing the fine judges HERE I am capable of a more literal REMIX style... when I eventually "drop" a different REMIX song in the near future... have no idea if that song will pass or not for not being literal enough, but that is perfectly OK! We will work around it in different REMIXES!

  21. Hey guys! :) here is my remix for Solstice - Title Theme. pls let me know what you think and enjoy!
  22. A few eq adjustments, as mentioned. I also sidechained the snare to everything, but to a lesser degree than the kick. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YoI1od1f3QLbFZgUpPzbP2Nzttdvc7Gx/view?usp=sharing
  23. Hello, everyone! Here is my most recent remix I've done. I'm slowly getting back to the grind, so I'll be doing more remixes soon. Let me know what you think! EDIT: I haven't used this forum in so long, so I forgot how to have the YouTube link show the video preview. Any help would be appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tio-EyhYOo
  24. Love this question. Anybody have a list at hand of demoscene musicians who also made game music? That would get us close. Also I imagine if you arrange some Amiga music, you might accidentally be in that zone!
  25. we talked about this internally and ultimately made the decision to reject this due to the format (six discrete tracks that transition into each other). we've had a few of these where it's a full EP or album submitted as a whole and done this as well. if you'd like to submit your individual tracks, please separate them with normal start/end points and submit them separately. Seven Songs for 7th Saga is an example of this. NO OVERRIDE
  26. Man, in every way this was cinematic as hell, and not just in the general orchestral way, but the way it played out fully from the foreboding quiet sections and the more brass heavy explosive parts. This was powerful and awesome. Excellent ReMix.
  27. I really loved how odd and mysterious this mix was. Some other forest medleys are calming and charming, like a forest in the day, while here it still felt like a beautiful and pleasent forest, but it was nighttime and you were no longer sure of your surroundings. It's such a good medley. So good.
