OCR00675 - Final Fantasy II "Town Tribute"
Estrang replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Fantastic track that I come back to every so often. Everyone needs a happy town to rest in now and then. Although the last minute is a bit much for me, feels like someone is hitting me with a happy hammer with the forceful nature of the volume or something... -
OCR04879 - Okami & Okamiden "A Stroll Down Memory Lane"

Beautiful track, has that cozy uplifting feeling that reminds me of an old remix that was titled "town theme"....Think I will look that one up after one more listen of this! -

I am not a huge acoustic guitar fan but it fit so correctly in this mix I have to applaud the artist. It enhances the haunting/mysterious feeling of the original. A great example of a musician leaning into the feel of the melody with instrument choice. -
Fantastic take on this theme. This melody is already so excellent I guess you could say it's hard to screw up. I am an OG listener and I tend to prefer the heavy electronic style of that era, so this one surprised me with how pleasing the rock song came together with this theme. Was a instant download from me, wonderful.

I wasn't really sure what to name this 8Track, but this is a collection of remixes done in various styles of (mostly) European folk music, that I thought sounded good together π»

DJ Pretzel you are an amazing dude. I found OCRemix in the glorious heyday of my middle/highschool years, and I had endless fun hanging out with friends and "mining" cool new tracks that we would download and make mp3 cds from. The good old days when most of the music was techno, Hah! I am just rambling because I have been a casual explorer with no musical background for about 24 years here on the site, and wow, the love and passion of this project just oozes good vibes. One of my favorite things was DJ Pretzel's critiques. I did not have an ear for music at all, but the more I listened to his reviews/critiques/judgements and explanations of the music, I felt my own understanding and listening habits change. I began to notice little details and appreciate what the remixer was going for. As a non musician it's hard to put into words how much appreciation I have rooted in this little corner of the digital universe, even as a non contributor I have a warm feeling for this community and wish for continued success and music. Now time to go browse some old remixes from you OG admins back in the day. P.S. I am beginning my journey under a mentor to repair and play piano, so maybe one day, I will contribute to this community, or maybe my daughter when she's old enough to learn, will also be inspired by the music OCRemix has spread.

Thank you for the in-depth review, this has been SUPER helpful. 1. A lot of my stuff might be stiff is due to me playing the notes on my keyboard, then manually clicking them in on the piano roll or quantizing them into place.. I guess I got hyper fixated on everything being strictly on beat--but I didn't realize that could be a negative (maybe it makes it sound less human?) 2. Yeah, it started to annoy me, as well. But it blends so well in the original track on the Genesis, I guess that's where I need to learn more and practice more mixing. 3. Yeah, some people on the Discord said to do that to make it my own. Despite this being a 1:1 learning experience, I would like to create something that I could submit for an official remix. So, for further practice, since I'm familiar with Green Hill Zone, I'll try to make an actual remix. I'm currently listening to other genres and jotting down ideas throughout the day. Seriously, thank you for the help! You've (and everyone else) has me inspired to stick with it!

DarkeSword started following md5sum and track numbers

MD5 hashes are obscured indefinitely because we have no easy or reliable way of regenerating them when we need to correct a file. Often times we've fixed an issue with a file but the MD5 hashes were still out of date. We'll take a look at the track number issue, but moving forward, don't rely on MD5 hashes.

Here's another classic, unfortunately I no longer have the source:

Hello, I've noticed that md5sum hashes are no longer showing. There have been a few instances in the past where I noticed some issues with the MP3 and confirmed those with the md5sum hash. Such as missing segments or wrong track number in one or two mirrors. Case in point, it seems that track #4895 is currently incorrectly tagged as track #4984, and the subsequent remixes are also wrong by -1.

RJ Van Xetten replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
Greetings Fellow OC'ers. I'm RJ (AKA RJ Van Xetten) and I've been listening to OC Remix since the early djpretzel launch at the wee age of 18 years old LOL (yeah I'm old hahah). I've always loved listening to everyone's remixes, and arrangements that they do, and it really inspired me to become a music producer. A little about me. I'm 44 years old, from Los Angeles, CA. I've been a gamer my whole life, but not so much as I got older. My first system I owned was the NES, and my first game's were Duck Hunt, Gyromite and came with R.O.B. (yes I still have him, no I won't sell him LOL). I'm a Trance/Hardstyle/Techno/EDM Producer since 2003 and DJ. I've played lots of festivals including Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC for you ravers out there!), Ultra Music Festival, and Dreamstate (playing again this year in November). My music is all over spotify/youtube/soundcloud. I know this probably is all boring stuff, but just wanted to drop by and say HELLO! Have a great morning/noon/evening to all! -RJ -

I've been bopping around the site for a while, and I've noticed no one has ReMixed Mario Super Sluggers (or Mario Superstar Baseball, but I'll get to that) yet! I'd love to see someone try to take on a medley of multiple stadium themes in the style of an organ or keyboard from your typical baseball game. I think including Yoshi Park, Wario City, and Peach Ice Garden would make for some recognizable classics in the medley, but feel free to include or swap out any other themes from the game you think might fit better. (I'm not as familiar with Mario Superstar Baseball, unfortunately, but some themes from there could be good as well, if you can work some of them in.) Hopefully someone can bring this to life! Thank you so much :)

*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Live from Death Egg Zone"
paradiddlesjosh replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Gonna side with my fellow Js here, Jiba-Gunna. This is definitely a straight cover with different instruments and changes to the percussion, and to be honest, it sounds like you just took a .mid of the Ending and slapped some VST instruments on it without any tweaks to the data. Unfortunately, it's also very poorly mixed: everything's too loud and the render audibly clips in places. I'll also recommend checking out either the #workshop channel on our Discord server or the Workshop forum here on the site for more feedback. We encourage you to go beyond the bounds of the original track and make this piece your own! NO -
Dropping a quick co-sign of my fellow Js. This probably works super well as a VGM deep cut in a club setting. The Gex VO samples are a nice touch as well. The big issue for posting this on OCR is the lack of overt variation between the first and second halves of the track. As proph and Hemo said, we'd be looking for either new material in the second half or removal of repeated/reused material. As is, it's a NO

*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Live from Death Egg Zone"
Hemophiliac replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
This one is just a straight cover on slightly different instrumentation. Percussion is different, but midi covers with percussion is not what we're looking for. The track is also very loud and clipping throughout the track with audible artifacts. Sample quality is not ideal as well as they are low quality and unrealistic. We're really wanting to hear your own take on the source with your interpretation, not just a cover. For example, you could consider adding countermelodies, embellishment on the source melody, or 100% brand new sections. Those and more are all valid ways to show us your own take on the track. NO
