  2. A couple years ago, I started working on a comprehensive conglomeration of remixes that I, after much listening/skimming as humanly possible by a single soul, ultimately consider to be my favorites, existing as a totality from this site and a few other sites that still or have showcased amateur remixes for free presently or in the past. OCR, VGMix, KWED, Dwelling of Duels (but didn't get to all of DoD's 2nd or 3rd place mixes, and unfortunately it's probably too late for that), VGMCast, and last but not least, the almighty Jonny Atma (GaMetal). Only a few are from YouTube. I'm still editing volume changes; they are an eternal process, but there has to be a finish line, at some point. Almost more importantly than general volume adjustments are constantly going back to make sure that the transitions between each remix are as amazing as possible. I've learned a lot, trying to make the transitions as seamless as possible, i.e. not complete butts, in a sort of mega-mix style. I have an upload of nearly the first 5 hours, but I don't want to post it here. I'd rather slowly get a group of trustworthy people (however that is determined), over on Discord, or somewhere (as if there is anywhere else). I'm Audity in the Discord server. The ultimate goal is to get it uploaded onto YouTube somehow, without it exploding. So, other than wondering if anyone would care to get a group going for this, I was wondering about people on this forum's thoughts on this comprehensive-mix concept I am describing, whether it be from people who have a listen to it or not. Is there something nefarious about releasing this into the wild, regarding rights and copyright and all that? I started it as a personal project, though obviously I want as many people as possible to hear it. I am extremely meticulous when it comes to not throwing things together haphazardly—though later on in the mix it technically might not be as cohesive as the first half or so ("Oh no," right?), albeit of course wrapping up kind of nicely near the end—so, I like to think there is some merit to this meticulous effort, that, at some point, overrides the offense of blatantly posting other people's work. As a more extreme example, I still remember a time, way back on last.fm, where Alexander Prievert had personally commented to his page on there, a comment that was vehemently against people hosting his works on places on the Internet without his express consent. Or something like that. Anyway, yeah. An excuse for music discovery, right? Going to bed now, though I don't expect people to rush over to give me attention or anything... too quickly ;).

  4. Thanks so much! Yeah to be honest I'm actually already planning to do a Xeno Cross follow up, but first, Mana! XD

  6. Cool original, and cool track but I agree with my fellow Js that the source song isn't nearly recognizable enough for OCR. The arrangement is cool but the sections get repetitive with the same instruments and patterns over and over. The mix is super low-heavy and the master is quite loud, I think the low end could be a bit better controlled so you have a little more headroom to work with and then there's no need to push the limiter so hard. But generally, this is a cool listen! Just not enough source for OCR. For OCR, the source song would need to be very easily identifiable, and you could do all kinds of original things over the top of it, that is a great remix strategy for such a simple and repetitive source. NO
  7. Rise of the Triad - Havana Smooth Remix
  8. Interesting source to cover, it doesn't that have much material but a neat atmosphere. I think prophetik above did a good job describing each section so I won't expand much there. I generally agree with his take on source usage, your track is taking musical ideas similar to the original, like 3 note arpeggios on several sections making "melodies" with the highest note of the arpeggio, but at no point plays the source in a way that anyone would clearly pinpoint it being a cover. For example, on the intro you're doing a 3-2-1 "melody" on F minor while the source does 5-6-4 on D minor (plus the 3-4-2 flourish to end each phrase), you then change the "melody" to a different one that still doesn't clearly echo the source. The synth arpeggio at 1:08 is the closest to the source since at least it has the 5-6 interaction, but it's a minor part of the track so even if it counted as "source usage" we'd be left with an arrangement that's largely "original". As an aside, on the 2:03 you're layering a synth playing a melody on C# minor over the F minor arrangement and it doesn't really sound good to my ears. I'm assuming you're doing this contrast intentionally but it doesn't land well IMO. K, so on arrangement. First, this isn't fit for OCR on its current form as its not really an identifiable cover of the source. It'd definitely need retooling on that side to clear our submission standards. Besides from that I think the arrangement's quite good, sections are well constructed and it flows well. I do agree with proph that it's fairly repetitive though, there's potential to add some extra touches on repeats to make each section feel unique. I don't have many notes on production, I think most elements sound good and are easy to hear in the soundscape. Only instrument I felt could use some extra work are the low strings, it lacks some clarity that could be achieved with more attack on the sample or maybe layering an staccato string playing the same lines. Overall, I think this is a solid arrangement with good production. However, it feels more like an original song than a clear cover of the source, which disqualifies it for OCR. If you intend to resubmit it you'd need to rework the arrangement to make the source usage more clear. It'll be challenging with a source like this but there's elements that could be highlighted and expanded even on such a short track (the 5-6-4 "melody", the 3-4-2 flourish at the end of each phrase, the #7 that gives the arpeggio a harmonic minor feel). For now though, the vote is: NO
  9. This feels and sounds like a more modernized version of the original source. The ability to recreate all of that from scratch is impressive. However, there is a lot of similarity to the original source making this very conservative. Well, that's not what we're looking for in arrangements. I'd like to see more development of the source into more of your own interpretation. Right now this is very close to a cover. Even stepping away for a contrasting section that changes up the texture for a bit would be a good way to vary it up some. Give us more things like the synth guitar at 1:43 and the final 15 seconds of the piece. This is where I see sigtau coming through and less of the original, give us more sigtau! The production is mostly fine as I didn't catch anything egregious standing out to me. On that front I felt like the synth bass was weak and could support the piece more, but this by itself was not a dealbreaker. The drop at 1:57 into the transition was cool! The main issue is the similarity of arrangement to the source and how conservative it is. I could see this developing into more, but as of right now it's not ready. NO
  10. I was browsing through YouTube videos that have been salvaged - meaning they were saved before that user was either terminated or they closed their YT account. One day, I stumbled upon this: https://archive.org/details/mmd-story-vocaloid-story-vocaloid-drama-part-2/%5BMMD+Story%5DVocaloid+Story+Vocaloid+DRAMA%5BPART+6_LAST+PART%5D.mp4 If you can help me identify the names of all the songs and BGM tracks used in all these videos, please do, I have a serious migraine after finally seeking my long lost gold nugget: Sara's Theme/Fate - Breath Of Fire 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXVigQZCTPY I especially need to know the name of the song and version type used during the sequence where the three grieve over Neru's death. Again, AHA music, Siri, Shazam, and SoundCloud can only aid in so much. I even tested them on a track like In The Darkness Lies OC Remix - Banjo Kazooie, and they were all unable to identify the track. So, this is where human sleuthing is needed. These are all going to help me learn how these types of tracks are utilized in these types of scenarios. Extra note: Naruto is both an anime and a video game franchise, so this is why I added both video game and anime BGM. UPDATE: Here's the tracks that matter more than any other I managed to separate: MMD battle tune.mp3 MMD casual tune.mp3 MMD piano audio 2.mp3 MMD sad audio.mp3 MMD sad piano with sirens.mp3 MMD sad piano.mp3 MMD unknown casual scene tune.mp3 MMD unknown guitar tune.mp3 MMD unknown hip hop audio.mp3
  11. I'll use my words, since no one else will! BACKED, Sam! I have pretty much all your stuff. Metroid Cinematica & Recharged, Chrono Cinematica, actually listened to Xeno Cross this week (I would also back a WHOLE-ASS 10 disc album of that idea BTW). But I've always adored the Mana soundtracks, especially Kikuta's SD2 and 3. I hope you get this off the ground, and I'm so looking forward to it!

  13. First off I wanted to say that I think there's a cool idea here. Translating this to piano and cello to start feels like a no-brainer, but the idea works very well. When the other parts come in (bass, drums, strings, and guitar) at 1:15 this feels more fleshed out as a potential idea for a track. The guitar in particular is the best sounding element in this track with reverb and delay on it, and has a fitting tone for the track. Where this falls is the execution of production and the closeness to the original source tune. Adding the additional band parts is a step in the right direction, but it's still just the same melody and structure around that. More expansion and development of that idea and with more of your own ideas is the way to go. Production/sequencing leaves us with something much to be desired. We're really lacking the human feel here. It's all ice-cold perfectly sequenced with repeated velocities in the piano with line-locked rigid timing early in the piece. Humans don't play the exact same dynamic/velocity from note to note. There will always be miniscule differences between them. The timing won't fall exactly on the beat every single time. The cello sample in particular sounds very low quality and cuts off suddenly when it's done at 0:41. Almost feels like there's no reverb on the piano or cello to help with realism. Drum fill on the toms at 1:41 is awkwardly out of time. There's over a minute of silence at the end. Please double check your submission before sending it in next time. Once again, would love to see further development of your own ideas and expansion upon the source and not just a conservative arrangement on new instruments. The production should also be looked at for more realism with attention paid to humanization of the parts. It's a cool vibe, but not ready for OCR. NO
  14. hi! I’ve just finished my orchestral remake of Graveyard from Ghosts ’n Goblins, mainly based on the PSP version, and I hope you enjoy it.
  15. Hashes are out of date because they’re generated when the file is initially uploaded, but they don’t get updated when we make revisions to the files. It’s a big job to regenerate all hashes and set them in the database. My advice is to just ignore hashes. I plan on obfuscating that data anyway.

  23. Mega Man Zero 4 - Falling Down Remix
  24. Okay, the title is weird, I know. I don't know if many here know this show and if they hate it or not. But each of these songs reminds me of the six main ponies (manesix). Since I need to choose two more remixes, I chose two more that remind me of the show. XD From top to bottom, it would look like this: Twilight Sparckle, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and the other two remixes are the bonus songs that remind me of something from the show.

I've been streaming footage of the Aomori Nebuta Festival this week while listening to Japanese pop music and Japanese-style VGM, which inspired me to create this 8Track. These are just some of my favorite Japanese-style remixes, whether it's because I love their use of Japanese instruments, use of Japanese language, or just because they remind me of some of my favorite Japanese pop music.
  26. Wow, I like it a lot! You really chose a fitting genre for this, haha. Love your ensemble, too, especially the minimoog-ish synths.
  27. Fingers crossed that we'll see Fire, Earth and Dawn some day. FF5's always been my favourite FF soundtrack and deeply underrated in my opinion. Wind and Water remain some of my favourite albums from OCREMIX.
