  2. I don't know how to use this message board to its max, but I wanted to thank you. But it's not my composition. I only wrote the percussion and carried out sound design and mixing. If you click the link to the original song on the page, you can hear how the composer made it. IMO it's definitely got that SNES feel, but perhaps not Chrono Trigger. As far as your mixing, try EQ'ing your instruments a little more tightly. Lately I just throw a low pass and high pass filter on every instrument (even the bass) to take out unwanted frequencies and get a cleaner mix. Having filters restricted to different ranges for each instrument (even if they overlap) can give you a cleaner mix. Be careful, though. You could easily end up with a tinny (yet muffled) mix. That other piece I'd like to hear. I love metal and hard rock, so throw it on me.

  4. 1) I agree with your criticism of how the guitar sits in the mix. After having listened to the track a few dozen times without headphones, I realized that I should have either raised the volume on the guitar track, or at least panned it to the left so that it could be isolated from the rest of the mix. At the time, I felt that the guitar was overpowering the horns and violin, which are the parts of the arrangement that I want most to stand out, but that may not have been the most effective choice. Funny enough, I have a Sagat remix that also incorporates horns and violins, but because I wanted the guitar to be prominent, I had no problem with allowing it to drown out the other instruments, and the end result is arguably better from a mixing standpoint. 2) I'm going to take another crack at the project, and see if I can get a better guitar tone, and mix. If not, then I'll happily take up your offer! 3) Your original composition is nice! Reminds me of Chrono Trigger, if its score were a trap album.
  5. Go for it, I say. The ladder effect is something that happens on the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive sound chip when the voltage of the sound wave approaches zero. It gives off some rather interesting timbres. The Wikipedia article about this is quite informative and explains it well. They even have a clip of the Streets of Rage intro on the page to demonstrate.

  8. Pad quality is dope. Love the swoll swelling. Synthwork is cool. Arps sound dope. Square-lead/support is sexy. Overall good. One gripe... I think the snare samples can be reduced by 1.4 db or something. They falcon-punch through the mix* a LITTLE too loud, especially for this genre of music imo. Good shtuff otherwise. Oh and the cymbol hit is a bit too loud too.
  9. It's almost that time of year again! HALLOWEEN RULES. I just knocked up a spoopy little something. Critique welcome but mostly just hope ya'll enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/galacticbaby/seeing-things-that-are-gone If you've got haunted vibes, post 'em!
  10. Oh well. Price reduction time. (edit) Yep, all original. Nevertheless...it's important to gain an audience. I'll try and set those accounts up asap. Gotta hit the hay now though. Thanks for feedback and stuff Oh and thanks for taking the time to listen!
  11. That almost inspires me to do that too. Could be an idea for a new album lol. Anyways...the hard work shows. The Ladder Effect, you say? No obvious reference to obvious movies. I promise. Kinda interested to know though.
  12. Semantic nonsense. *takes a look at Grammy Awards* Oh. Ohhhhh. I see. Still don't get what you mean... Funny that I happened to like the same tunes that you preferred yourself. I guess Gas Man's weakness is Pepto Power.
  13. Story of my life too. Only recently acquired studio quality stuff. I was running on cheap wavetable synths, pretty much, beforehand. Except for maybe Kore Player, but they stopped supporting it T_T And it's my pleasure. Pretty sure I downloaded "Acid Rain" too. For research purposes. AKA listening in my car. (edit: yup I did)
  14. Yeah, none of my comments are *really* there, like no one is able to see them or comment on them - or if they are, their responses are buried too (who knows? The algorithm is weird). Also, a few months back, I uploaded videos with all the proper remix tags. You'd think that titles like 'metroid' and 'soulblazer' would be a big hit, but nada. I'd rather YT just outright ban me than play those kinds of games. But I digress. RIP NSFW content all across the board. Those damn NPCs are driving me mad lol. Maybe the CCP has something to do with it *shrug*. But I digress again. Nice, I might have a few tunes I'd be willing to "donate" to NG...didn't think of that before asking (edit2: Or just share my album there, maybe disable download and link to Bandcamp or something). But it's good to know you're a vet of sorts (edit and to have as my "in"). Didn't know the process was that layered, but it's probably a necessity. By the by, have you participated in the Compo Scene here before? We got PRC, MnP and Robots vs Knights might be doing something too. Still got *10 days* for the current MnP round *wink wink*
  15. Is this all original music? It's quite chill, and quite nice. Good melodic content and the mixing seems to be on point. I feel like $7 would be fair if you were more well-known. You need to utilize social media to make this happen. I think you should not only jump on Newgrounds, but try Soundclick.com to grab an audience, though that's more for beat and soundtrack producers than regular artists. Wouldn't hurt, though.
  16. Ooh, neato. A bit of a percussive assault at the beginning (percussion bell was a bit loud for my taste), but overall it was quite a good listen. The flutey sound just sealed the chill vibe for me. My only REAL complaint is that it feels like it's over before it can really develop into what I felt it was going to be. I seriously thought it was going to break down into some kind of solo or something. But nice job on all the percussion going on, keeping things interesting.
  17. lol Believe it or not, that's a new version of a track I originally made in 2016. The original kinda sucked, so I felt that it needed to be redone with my new software and increased ability. Thanks again for listening.
  18. O.O Well, thank you for taking the time to listen to those...things. Gas Man... What the fuck was I thinking? TBH Harsh Life and Mushroom Forest Dance are among personal all-time favorites from my content. That's mainly because I feel like I came very close to the exact feel and sound design for which I aimed. Especially on Harsh Life. On the DL I'm making a new remix of that. Note: I prefer the term "skill." Talent is too nice. Making music is something I learned how to do. I believe that it can be taught and learned, so therefore it is a skill.
  19. Last week
  20. Thanks, man! Ngl I rip drum samples from games to make sure they're authentic. I have a couple of choice VST plugins for the instruments, and then certain effects to enhance the feel (low pass filter is one of them). But I could do better if I had AlyJamesLab's FMDrive. It has "the ladder effect."
  21. Dude... Thank you for all of your replies. I have seen them, but I have been busy as all hell. Working overtime, getting that bread I wouldn't say Newgrounds is great for getting exposure, but it sure did help me get to where I'm at in terms of my skill level in music making. And sometimes I'll get a few thousand listens on a track in its first two weeks. The community there is great, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have another audience. You should give it a go. BUT they have a system in place to ensure that people don't upload other people's music. To avoid too much waiting with that system, upload 3 or 4 original tracks (not your remixes, if you have any) after getting an account (and confirming it) and I can approve you for the Audio Portal (I have tenure). And YouTube did what now? I can't say I'm shocked. Twitter has been doing this to NSFW artists for some time now, and Google seems to have some kind of problem with Newgrounds (because of their NSFW content).

  23. Man this is chill as f*ck. Perfect for listening to whilst doing a hobby. Kinda reminds me of Nujabes. Real swag samples and the crunchy textures really help with the chill effect. Btw dood, Is Newgrounds a good venue to get exposure? (I can't use YT, because they have shadow-banned me for making topkek comments)
