  1. Thanks Mirby for getting this project started, and thanks Brandon for picking this up. Glad to see this is still happening. Let me know if you need anything.

  2. WE FINALLY DOIN’ IT! We need your help to add genre, mood, instrumentation and other tags to the OCR database. The full list of terms. The minimum of what we need for every ReMix is: Primary Genre (e.g. funk, metal, rap, EDM, jazz) Secondary Genres (when applicable) 1+ Mood (e.g. aggressive, goofy, romantic, sad) 2+ Instrumentation (e.g. acoustic-guitar, chiptune, piano, singing) Additional tag types we want to apply whenever possible: Specific Arrangement aspects (e.g. # of instruments, minimalist, extended soloing) Effects (e.g. distortion, glitching, lo-fi, vocoder) Origin (e.g. collaboration, created for a compo) Live production aspects (e.g. live ensemble, live recording, use of live instruments) Regional influence (e.g. Celtic, Japanese, world) Time (e.g. tempo, long or short duration, time signature) Usage (e.g. workout, winter/holiday, Halloween, meditation) This is a serious project, so you need to have a good understanding of what the tags mean and also have a good ear for labeling genres and identifying instruments and moods. We want to build an accurate library of tags for the remixes on the site. If you’re interested and you think you have what it takes, let us know right here in this thread and we’ll assign you a block of ReMixes to work on and PM you our tagging submission form where you can enter the data. THANKS! __ Can we add more tags to the list? No! We don't plan on adding many other tags, but if a good case is made for something we've overlooked, we may add more. Note on genres: We're not trying to add tags for every subgenre under the sun. We're going for pretty broad descriptions. We don't need "tribal Moombahcore chillwave"; EDM works just fine in most of those cases. Note on using "epic" for mood: We're not using "epic" as a synonym for awesome/amazing/yoooooooooooooo. We're using it to describe ReMixes that are grand, heroic, or anthemic in scope/tone, which isn't limited to orchestral and rock pieces. Note on lyrics and duration: Larry has already handled lyric-specific tags (original, existing, explicit) for all lyrical ReMixes, and duration tags for long and short mixes. Problems?! If you’re working on tagging your batch of ReMixes and run into an issue where something isn’t clear, then post here and let us know and we can help you.

  3. ReMixes of town themes This is a great community, if we all work together, there's no reason for something like "Hometown Heroes" to disappear. OCR is our Hometown!

  4. Had three steps as well, but after a few tries I managed to get one through Bionic Commando instead of FF. Interesting.

  5. Are you routing each instrument to separate outputs or trying to smush them all into one?

  6. Wow, the metal genre applied to the first Sonic soundtrack works surprisingly well! I really like what you did with the rhythm guitar throughout and how you kept it varied. I especially enjoyed the interpretation of Spring Yard Zone, Scrap Brain Zone, and Final Zone. Actually, I'd love to see what you could do with arranging just one of those themes, since there seems to be a lot of potential there with this genre. Some of the transitions are a little sudden (like between Star Light and Scrap Brain), but they work for the most part. I'd also love to see more variation in the guitar range and see what you can do; I bet you have more than a few tricks up your sleeve. On another note, what program do you use for drums? They sounded really crisp and it works really well here. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Three steps, woo. Anyone who's posted a Final Fantasy remix will get a minimum of three steps, as Nobuo Uematsu is two steps away

  9. No idea who the latter person is, but consider it done! Looking forward to it! As for Brandon Strader...yes, I received your PM and no, I'm not sure how to take that. Positive? Negative? I'm almost afraid to ask. Will you usurp me and take over as director if I try one more time?

  10. Hey, welcome! You're good, this is exactly the right place to post. Neat video, too, thanks a ton for sharing! I see you've got this tagged as Eval -- generally, what that signifies is that you want a workshop staff member to come and give feedback on a mix that's been going through iterations here in the workshop, and it's not usually a tag applied to a thread with only one post. If you want some technical feedback on the song and the mix, you'll certainly get that! However, this does appear to be a released song already, so not sure if that's something you're still looking for. Obviously, if you were trying to get this posted on OCR, it'd have trouble on account of being strictly a medley, but I'm sure if you were looking for technical feedback on the mix 'n such, I and other would be happy to give that if you want it.

  11. There's a difference between what a teenager is actually interested in and is able to handle vs. what an adult is allowed to show them. It's one thing to recommend a good anime to a teen, it's another thing to run a club and show it to them, and be liable for it. That's why the caution is needed here.

  13. Hello - I've visited this site for several years, originally listening to remixes from The Legend of Zelda Series. I have downloaded quite a few albums over that time, some of which are from game I haven't even heard of prior, such as the Armored Core album (which is a favorite of mine). Video game music is such terrific inspiration for me, whither while I'm building with Lego Bionicle, reading, walking/biking, playing on the piano, sharing with family, and, more recently, aiding in writing my own music. I am a member of my church's choir, which has exposed me to even more genres and types of music. I've even been blessed in participating in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with a 100+ choir and 70-piece orchestra! For a career, I wish to write for film and video games in any particular field, and have recently graduated with an Associates in Songwriting/Arranging at Sacramento City Community College, and will be working on a Bachelor of Arts in Music-starting in the Fall-at Sacramento State University. Right now, as I work on Night Crew at Smart and Final, I'm taking a class on Pro Tools, just so as to get more familiar with DAW's outside of Reaper. More and more each day, I am realizing that if I want to be a music maker, I will need to carve out my own path, whether it be in school and meeting new people, or in learning more about software and composition through tutorials and practice. This new realization is actually why I've finally decided to be more dedicated to this site: it really is a way to both learn the craft, share my own works, meet other members, and take notice of the fact that there are people who do enjoy building each other up and discuss music. I recently started up a new Soundcloud, and I wish to upload both remixes and explorations/experiments (which usually go hand in hand, as I'm finding out) in music. As I mentioned earlier, I build with Bionicle as one of my hobbies, and while I don't post nearly as much on my Deviantart, I have uploaded many models onto Brickshelf. I also attend an annual convention, Bricks by the Bay, where I am the Bionicle Theme Coordinator. Video games are another pastime of mine, and I've played a wide variety of games, from Nintendo's classics to Team Fortress 2 (the only shooter I like playing :P) to the Borderlands Series. Battleborn looks awesome, by the way, and you should pre-order it, I already did. Oh yes, one last thing: I'll be getting married to my lovely Fiancée Jo this June, and I cannot wait to share the rest of my life with her. Thank you Jesus for showing me someone who enjoys games like I do. I hope to see you around, and thank you for providing people with such wonderful music throughout the years.

  14. Hello! I just joined today but I've been indulging in OCR for a good 6 years or so. I make music for NEC PC-98 machines as a hobby and I also do it professionally for videogames.
