Lufia II: Of Gods and Men

(Art by Zeth) The time has come: The definitive OCR Lufia project is officially online again (Again!)! The Lufia series has one of THE great soundtracks of the SNES era, and Bahamut wanted to honor it with an album project. This was at a time where MANY albums were being developed on OCR, and this one quietly trudged along. After some time I agree'd to help co-direct the project, but even with my help this project fell into a deep slumber of relative inactivity. Bahamut's life became too complicated to continue this in earnest, and I've had school and relative job insecurity that held me back. While Bahamut still has other obligations in life that don't allow him to dedicate the time to finish something like this, my time has cleared up, which has allowed me to take this project 100% head on again. I will be the director of this album from this point on, with Bahamut's blessings. All of my thanks goes to him for starting and establishing this project, getting it to where it is today. In addition, Theory of N has agree'd to co-direct this album. As the scope of the project expanded outside of my ability to control it when it... spirals to the nether, he is here to keep everything on track. So far he has done wonders behind the scenes, and I am sure he will continue to do so. Any music from Lufia II and its DS remake will be accepted for this project. It's a compromise between the original vision (Lufia I & II's soundtrack) and the later vision (ONLY having Lufia II music); there are quite a few good Lufia I tracks that were rearranged for the DS remake, so some of those Lufia I tracks have become available again. This is a list of the music that already has a prior claim: if you are not on this list then you don't have a claim to this music. Music that's considered a Prime Pick is music that the album really shouldn't be without - please pick one of those, if one is available, as that music is iconic. Solid picks are other great tracks from the soundtrack, though they're less iconic to the soundtrack. The tracks that would be Nice to have are tracks on the OST that are less known, and would likely not be missed if they're not on the album. However, please pick any track that suits your tastes - I will not reject a good WIP of even the lesser known tracks! Claim (No WIP) Claim (with any WIP) Significant claim (50% WIP) Nearly finished (90-100%, without WAV) Finished (100%, WAV submitted) Reserved/Claimed: Opening Theme (Evory) The Prophet (Daragan) Battle #2 (Gario) The Silent World (DjjD) Parcelyte Presidential Administration / Port City (Flexstyle) Mountain of No Return\Labrynth (bLiNd) Battle #3 (Prince uf Darkness & Snappleman) Tanbel Abandoned Mine (Rockos) The Earth (World Map) (P.M. Crockett) Priphea Flowers (Audio Fidelity) To the Future (XPRTNovice) The Last Decisive Battle (P.M. Crockett) Big Bridge (Gario) Soma Shrine (Above Ground) (Gario) (Bonus Track) To the Azure Skies (Cyril the Wolf) Tranquility (PabloComa) Parting (djpretzel) The One who will Save the Earth (Jorito) Cardia Shrine (Artem Bank) Door of the Journey (Rockos) Battle #1 (DaMonz) Rumbling (Jeremy Robson) Flute of Sleepwalk (Abadoss) Town of Abundance, Elcid (Antti Pylsy) The Time of Judgment (bLiNd) Logimos Shrine (Above Ground) / Towering Mountain (Vodou Queen) The Three Towers (Bunnylord) Confrontation with a Great Enemy (Zack Parrish) Music Available: Solid picks: Lexis Laboratory Water Capital, Parcelyte Castle of Stone, Bound Kingdom Ancient Caves Battle Despair and Destruction The Strongest! The Greatest Thieves in the World Throne Room Nice to have: Fortress Town, Gratz Empire Forest Village, Eserikto Logimos Shrine (Above Ground) Mountain Path of Ice Fog Soma Shrine (Below Ground) Gratz Underground Factory Wedding Bells If it's not on the list, it's open to claim for yourself. Any track from Lufia II or the DS remake are fair game; while I will be posting a list of songs in the near future, you can make your claims now. If you're a posted (or to-be-posted) ReMixer, the claim will be held (until you miss a date). If you are not a posted ReMixer, please either PM me a sample of your work, or send a well produced WIP of the track you'd like to claim. Here is a list of due dates for this album (2024): No more submissions will be accepted at this time. This is the final, no exceptions submission date for the album. There have been a few folk on here that have wanted to contribute since the last album submission - which is greatly appreciated! However, hell or high water this is when this album will be submitted to the site again, so if the final product is not finished by this date, you are not going to be on the album. Let's make a Lufia album that's truly worthy of the Gods!

  6. Preview Window to the Stars: http://youtu.be/FF6uamDXbfo Download Window to the Stars: http://smrpg.ocremix.org Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Super_Mario_RPG_-_Window_to_the_Stars.torrent Seven years after having joined the OC ReMix community, I was becoming increasingly distraught that there had not yet been an attempt at a remix album for what is, in my opinion, the greatest game of all time. I eventually decided to take matters into my own hands and create what would eventually become Window to the Stars. While not the easiest undertaking by any stretch of the imagination, I feel that this tribute to the brilliance of Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo, and Nobuo Uematsu does the soundtrack justice. With nearly every track rearranged across 3 discs, the album as a whole portrays a sort of reimagining of the journey taken in the game itself. Of course, this project would not be what it is today without a great deal of help. Big thanks to both the artists and fans who have been waiting patiently throughout this sometimes-not-too-clear development. IT'S FINALLY HERE! A second thanks to the artists who worked on the album not only for their incredible talent and timeliness, but also for dealing with Emery and my pestering over the last 4 years. You da real MVPs. Thanks to Yoko Shimomura for her incredible ability to create emotive works, even through beeps and boops. Also to Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu for creating the initial atmosphere in the Mario series and Final Fantasy series, respectively, that would serve as the foundation for many pieces in Super Mario RPG. And finally, a VERY special thanks to Emery for all of his work on this album. There was a time I thought I'd have to drop the project and that caused much distress in my life, but Emery stepped in to help pick up the slack and saved me and the album. It's safe to say this album would not be complete today and it most definitely wouldn't be of the caliber it is without his help. I've said it to you many times in private conversations but, again, thank you so much for everything you've done. Ultimately, all this work would be for nothing without you, the people listening to this music. I hope this album brings you as much joy as it does for me. Enjoy, friends! - Dustin Lagaly (Theory of N) Okay, so let me make sure we're all on the same page here: Super Mario RPG is one of the greatest masterpieces of classic video games. Anyone who hasn't played it should get that fixed ASAP. And the rest of you already know why that game is so good. With that out of the way, I would like to say that my history with this project wasn't the most straightforward path. I started with simply claiming and remixing the final battle music of the game. At that point, the project was still far from completion, so I contacted Dustin and asked if I could help in any way. So, with his consent, I started sending out messages to the other remixers to try and get the ball rolling some more. And then, one thing led to another, and here I am! I'm really grateful to Dustin for letting me help with directing the project, for the highs and lows anyone should expect from a project of that scale, for the teamwork, and for making the project happen in the first place. I'm also very grateful to all of the musicians and to the visual artists for providing all the great content this project has to offer, and for enduring my (most probably obnoxious) constant badgering. And, of course, where would this project be without the original composers Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo, and Nobuo Uematsu, towards all of whom I hold the highest admiration. Their music has shaped a huge part of my childhood, and has provided the world with a gorgeous demonstration of human expression. As for this here project, we have decided to highlight both the complexity of the original soundtrack by covering most of its extent, and the variety of musical styles and moods that is achievable by the remixing community. The three discs (Exploration, Confrontation, and Celebration) give a quite self-explanatory progression to the album that, I believe, should provide you with a satisfyingly wide array of emotions to re-enact the original game's mood on a nicely crafted musical scene. Getting this project done was one big adventure for us, and I hope listening to it all will be a big adventure for you all as well. Happy listening! - Emery Monzerol (DaMonz)

  8. OC ReMix Presents Super Mario RPG: Window to the Stars! January 31, 2017 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 61st free community arrangement album, Super Mario RPG: Window to the Stars. The album pays tribute to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, released in 1996 for the SNES, a unique collaboration between Nintendo and Square which blended gameplay from both the Mario and Final Fantasy series. Featuring 34 tracks from 29 artists, Window to the Stars is directed by OC ReMixers Dustin "Theory of N" Lagaly & Emery "DaMonz" Monzerol, and is available for free download at http://smrpg.ocremix.org. Window to the Stars includes a diverse group of musicians honoring composer Yoko Shimomura's fun and upbeat soundtrack (inspired by original works from Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu) in a variety of styles, including chiptune, bluegrass, klezmer, metal, EDM, orchestral, and more. Window to the Stars was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or Square Enix; all original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "I feel that this tribute to the brilliance of Yoko Shimomura, Koji Kondo, and Nobuo Uematsu does the soundtrack justice," director Dustin Lagaly affirmed. "With nearly every track rearranged across 3 discs, the album as a whole portrays a sort of reimagining of the journey taken in the game itself." The album's artwork was designed by a pair of Montréal-based artists: game developer Kristoffer Soucy, who also created the Wii U platformer Shuttle Rush, with tweaks by Roxanne Chartrand. "Getting this project done was one big adventure for us," remarked Emery "DaMonz" Monzerol, who steered Window to the Stars to completion as co-director. "I hope listening to it all will be a big adventure for you all as well. Happy listening!" Window to the Stars also marks OC ReMix's third Mario series album, following 2015's Super Cartography Bros., which focused on EDM arrangements of Mario map themes, and 2014's Portrait of a Plumber, which tributed the Nintendo 64's pioneering launch title, Super Mario 64. 13. Excellent competition and entries this round, great job everyone! I'm with GCJ in that I didn't see this result in the works at all. I've got some ideas for a source, just need to make sure I can find a good MIDI out there for it. I'll shoot you a PM after I do my searching, GCJ (or you'll beat me to it, one of the two, haha). Skimming through "Da Rules", GCJ and I both pick a source, and then it's the competitor's choice whether they want to cover my source, GCJ's source, or mix the two together. Did I read all of that correctly?

  14. First off, good job everyone! The remixes turned out pretty well. Can't say I saw this coming. I'll take a look at those previous sources for PRC so I can start searching and see if there's anything I can come up with then I'll PM my ideas to Dewey. Dewey, send some ideas to me through PM as well and we'll figure out something.

  15. Oh shit, they are at the Battle Tree store. I thought they were all missing. But I don't see Banettite anywhere... and my Banette kinda of needs one. Looking at the list of Mega Stones on Bulbapedia, it looks like 27 of the 47 are not available yet, so that's going to need a lot of events just to get them all back. IF they only plan to do two or three at a time, and it's a couple of months between events, that's a couple of years just to get them all. Fuck that.

  17. Man, when it really gets going (0:43) it sounds really good. The choice to slide that main theme really adds something unique to the track that's just... tasty. While it takes a while to get off the ground, it's easy to follow, and damn if it doesn't have a ton of meat to it. The production could use some work, as the instruments do fight for space, especially among the synths and drums (like at 1:01). The heavy reliance on reverb throughout in the synths and drums limits where you can take the track. Leave things wet, but not THAT wet, and you'll have more space to mix and balance the track. The drums have a lot of strength in the right places, but be aware that the toms are mixed pretty close to the front when they don't need to be. The guitar is well placed, and honestly it would serve you well to utilize it a bit more often throughout. It both would prep the listener for it better when it takes them tasty licks, and it would give the soundscape some more variety (as it IS a touch on the static side). The arrangement itself does suffer a little from sounding copy-pasted for the last portion. The guitar does some things differently, but it doesn't take that feeling away. Give some more variety in the synthwork and drums in these portions, it would help alleviate this issue. Love it, though, and I think it has potential to go from a good track to a really great track with some cleaning up. Best of luck!
