Hey guys! Just looking for some general feedback on this remix. I'm at that point where I'm not too sure what else to be adjusting / paying attention to. I feel like the arrangement / mix are in pretty solid spots, but I usually end up forgetting about / missing something. Always good to have another pair of ears. Of the top of my head, I know I want to go back to a few of the synth parts and make 'em a bit more entertaining to listen to / more dynamic. (Also heads up, I think listening to the stream on box distorts the sound a bit) Thanks in advance for your time. https://app.box.com/s/a2gcbj5uau85sn6mlx0kb5xog16dscm51 point -
Castlevania: Legends [Prologue]

I wanted to produce a synthwave arrangement of the source but couldn't help using "organic" instruments for the leads and drums. I thought it could be interesting to try and find a right balance between synth and organic sounds -- keep those guitars, piano and drums and use only synths for the arrangements (which I'll start exploring way deeper when I find someone with a decent knowledge of synthwave music willing to help me ^^'). Original Source: Remix: I visualized Sonia telling her newborn son the tale of her adventures -- like it's a bedtime story -- when remixing this. Feel free to share feedbacks and whatnot :31 point -
My thoughts . . ., I guess. HoboKa - Impendz--Adult Ambient Diapers Solid intro strings. Bright and a touch sombering. Lovely. Then you just straight up go dark and I love it! Wonderful atmosphere. The percussion just sells it. That broken, I dunno, glass-ish sound? Pure class. The vocal is creepy as all get out and that riser around 1:20? Mmmmm. Big heavy kick jumps in too. Then you've got this uplifting bit that comes in with the strings. Just wonderfully creepy. Chalis - Step Into The Future Beyond the article being capitalized lets see. Nice little bright arp. I mean you really decided to take this away from being too dark and made it a bit lighter. The interpretation with that plucked lead is also awesome. Good sub bass too, and you kept the kick out of its way. Smart choice. Personally, not a big fan of the hats. Just kind of like a fusion of older electronic and more modern sensibilities in writing. Interesting.1 point

My bad DarkeSword. Didn't even notice these threads were under the music history forum. Just assumed this was the general music forum. Still no excuse for lazy posting on my part. Anyhoo, to dive a bit deeper into why I enjoy the Super Monkey Ball 2 soundtrack in context of the game. Besides sounding good, the juxtaposition between these bright environments and characters with music that becomes increasingly more ambient and darker by the time you reach the last two boss worlds gives a unique feel to the game. Maybe if I had a little more music knowledge and experience I could dig into why that is, but just as someone who enjoys games and music the soundtrack did an excellent job of matching the environments, and in a game where you're dying frequently and having to replay stages countless times over, the last thing the music should do is become a nuisance. Perhaps that's why the music becomes more ambient as the game progresses: to not needlessly draw the player's attention as the difficulty of each stage ramps up. May not have been the intention, but definitely an interesting coincedence.1 point -
Castlevania: Legends [Prologue]

This is pretty good! Turning a 35 second source into a 5 minute remix that introduces new instruments and does something different is definitely not easy. I can feel the bedtime story inspiration in your remix. Your soundscape sounds good, but at the same time, I feel like it's a bit off sometimes. Maybe I'm mishearing things tonight, but it sounds a bit like your lead instruments are panned center. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but changing the panning direction (left/right) slightly between leads (flute to guitar to piano, etc.) can reduce hearing fatigue. Maybe someone else can comment on the panning/soundscape? Overall, great job! I think you should submit this once you're done; to my ears, this has a good chance of passing.1 point -

Actually, lemme give a quasi-eval, myself, since I've actually already dropped my thoughts on it for the panel. No reason to hold it back from you at this point, eh? EVAL Very tasteful approach to the source, here, if a bit conservative. The texture is light, but when change comes in it's quite effective. It's clean, crisp and overall a really slick track. All of that being said, the levels on this are very low on the whole, and it's difficult to raise your levels without clipping at 2:30 due to that single spike in levels there caused by the bass drum (it's very easy to see in Audacity). There's a certain amount of compression or soft limiting that one could do to fix this (say, amp it to max, soft limit it about 5 dBs in Audacity, max the amp again), but a cleaner solution would be to make it so that particular bass drum strike wasn't as loud (and do a soft limit over the track afterward). To be honest, though, either solution would work fine. I could see this being easily post-able if the levels were fixed, so get your levels up!1 point

This is a beautiful arrangement of Midna's Lament. The icy theme works really well. My only complaint is the low volume level, but that's been addressed already. Overall, great job! I hope to see this on the front page soon.1 point -
