  1. Probably very expensive because there is a market, but the market is very small. They just found the pricing sweet spot, and it trended higher than average.
  2. have a great birthday esse, keep being you. <3
  3. Some kind of side! Potato Salad; Pasta Salad; Bean Salad; maybe Salad Salad? Something like that. also, Minnesota is great!
  4. BBQ at my place friday night- there will be Surliez and chickenz to be had. Also bears repeating: Any project director that wants to send a SHORT audio/art preview of their project that is coming up to be played during the presentation. It should be no longer than a minute at most. Must be PM'd to me or Level99 by next Wednesday.
  5. Remixer Name: Sonicade Real Name: Kentaro Fischer Email: KentaroFischer@gmail.com Website: http://www.Sonicade.com/ Userid: 5360 Name of Game Arranged: Mortal Kombat Name of Song Arranged: Menu Original Composer: Dan Forden Comments: As short as it is, the menu music from Mortal Kombat 1 has always been one of my favorite pieces of music from the MK games. Maybe it's because of memories playing Mortal Kombat in the arcades back when they still existed. This track is one of my first attempts at Drum & Bass so maybe that shows. I wanted to give this track an ominous feel to fit the MK theme and add to that the frenzied pace of DnB. The original tune isn't very long so it was a challenge for me to try and stretch it out while keeping things interesting. I tried adding a transposition at one point but it didn't sound right at all. The sound effects / game vocals were added toward the end. They were kind of added for comedic effect, especially Raiden's battle cries (@:31, :35) but also to add to the MK atmosphere. At another point I added the names of each character but I decided it sounded too similar to the Mortal Kombat Theme from the first movie. The song was tracked using Renoise, a modern tracking software suite. reFX Vanguard and Spectrasonics Omnisphere were VST used for the leads. reFX Nexus and more reFX Vanguard for the bass and arpeggios. Drums consisted of loops from Loopmasters.com plus Native Instruments Battery. In my never ending quest to improve my mixing, I used a lot of Sonnox Oxford Dynamics Native for compression and gating as well as Waves LinEq for equalizing. As promised, here is another submission before 6 years pass since my previous submission. Best Regards, Kentaro Fischer / Sonicade Original Track Link: -------------------------------------- Production seems pretty solid, and there is some decent expansion of the theme, with some extended sections and a few adjustments to the counter melodies. The speed increase was a good call as well. I thought the sound clips were sometimes cool, sometimes way too cheesy, and though the Synth that played the main melody was exceptionally vanilla, there were strong points and cool layered parts that propped up the arrangement pretty well. The beat remained somewhat static throughout, but was driving and had enough going on that kept it from being stale. I think if the lead synth was more interesting and the vocal clips were toned down slightly i'd feel more confident about this one, but even as-is, I feel this just clears the bar. yes (borderline)
  6. ohoo, thanks for the tip, makes sense to me now.
  7. Pretty fun stuff, The lyrics are the strong point, and though I do think the source itself is used in a little too repetitive of a manner, there is enough expansion on the theme to fit. Production is overhyped in a few frequencies i'm not quite sure on, but it's only in the backing track and doesn't kill anything. Overall it's solid. I think the other judges have this covered. Send us lyrics please! yes
  8. wow your signatures are obnoxiously large. (in before that's what she said)
  9. Great beat, nice rhodes and strings, and though it does get a little worn down near the end. Classy otherwise, I think a little bit of editing and this would be a superstar.
  10. Pretty subdued stuff, I like the wah effect and the string beds underneath the different layers of texture. Overall pretty good background music. Nice and pleasant.
  11. i'm about 6 hours into it now, so I appreciate all the spoiler tags; thanks everyone. One thing I've noticed, is why does sometimes Snow have a huge, badass patch on the back of his jacket, and sometimes there's nothing there? I don't get it.
  12. Rich's work is always really classy and well done, but it seems to be more focused on mood and rhythms than melody, which is a very viable strategy, and one that always enhances an experience, but makes it more difficult for me personally to get as invested in the music. This one is no exception, with a very polished and rich soundscape, but a more subdued melody. I keep wishing for those soaring horns to be pushed further forward and really take control, but they are backseat to the rest of the drama. As for telling the story of the opening moments of Wolfenstein, that was completely nailed. Very evocative textures and pacing, but my own bias gets in the way of me fully enjoying it. I certainly respect the skill on display here though, props.
  13. Still not feeling that snare, but amazing solo and some good times to be had by all on this one. A very fun arrangement that works out pretty well.
  14. I love that slightly layered clap, and the sounds are excellent. The arrangement itself is very rocking, and has a strong feel. The shift to triplets was very well handled and gave a good extended transition to a new theme. My only complaint is that the ending seemed a little weak; compared to the strong builds in the first half, the second half didn't exceed it. Still an awesome mix though.
  15. The intro itself is really long, and once the piano started out at the 25% point, it was pretty nice, if a bit subdued, but once it shifted to a more synth-based feel, I wasn't as into it. The melodic synth itself is really blunted, and doesn't carry the tune very strongly. Vig's choice of words with 'wash' is good. It's just all very indistinct. I think that as a remake of the soundtrack, it works pretty good, but for OCR, additional arrangement and expansion is required. no, please resubmit
  16. No complaints from me at all. The synth balance I can see, but I still think the track is way strong. I'm cool with being brief with my vote here, no reason for me to hold this up. yes
  17. Pretty cool stuff, i like the vocal duet, and though there are few parts where the effects in the background don't seem to mesh, specifically at the beginning of the first chorus. Though the source takes a very prominent backseat to the new stuff (which is pretty much the only reason I paneled this one), the execution and presence of it throughout keeps it within what I think a remix should include. Very nice work, I enjoyed it a lot. yes
  18. hey brushfire, can i get a close up shot of all your anime babez please?
  19. The concept of this is really cool, and I love the guitar playing, but it took me several listens to make the connections to the source, and even then it feels exceptionally liberal to me. I agree with Vinnie that all the cool stuff added to this takes away from the source on a fundamental level. Production was decent, but there were a few parts that seemed to be missing frequency parts. It's a really cool song, but it doesn't feel like a ReMix to me. Sorry guys. no
  20. Dizzamn, this one gets really loud once it kicks in. It's way over-compressed. Nice subdued intro, but the solo viola that came in at :40 was pretty fakey, it could use a little more care in the sequencing. There are a lot of cool sounds in this once it gets going, but they are strangely mixed in with some pretty lifeless synths. The lead at was :59 was specifically dead sounding; add some modulation to the longer notes so it comes alive. The switch to a more oscilated synth at 1:23 was an improvement, but there was still no modulation. Bowed attacks of the string beds at 1:35 were a little rough as well. Arrangement was personalized with a lot of breakdowns and beat shifts, and progressed pretty well. Based on the over-compression, and weak sequencing, i'm gonna have to throw this one back. The arrangement is creative, but the production issues need to be addressed. no, please resub
  21. Somehow i missed this the first time around- This is really nice improv, and a great feel for the chords. Very nice stuff, emphasizes and enhances the moodiness of the original while still keeping it mysterious and intimate.
  22. FFV Project Mix for Exdeath's theme - Twisted Devil, Grinding Soul ~ Theme of Exdeath ~ by Meteo Xavier with audio mastering by Tweek. Howdy. I'm submitting the mix I am doing for the FFV Project. It is a remix of Exdeath and The Land Unknown. I composed and mixed this track and Tweek did an INCREDIBLE mastering job on it. This track was mostly done as a favor to Darkesword and I admit this thing was fraught with peril from day one, since I personally find Exdeath's track pretty ugly and not ripe with material to remix. I found the best way to do this track was to do like my Yggdrasil remix and make it a dark, foreboding, orchestrally inclined mix, taking particular inspiration from Motoi Sakuraba's much angrier orchestral mixes in Baten Kaitos and Infinite Undiscovery. My goal here was to try and sonically illustrate what was going on under Exdeath's armor, since I can't possibly imagine anything but dark matter and lost souls under that helmet, and the void ripping open one of the many towns in FFV. So that's kinda what's going on here. Little visions of Exdeath marching down like Darth Vader came to mind, as well as bits of the void itself swallowing things whole. I regret that for many reasons I couldn't do more with this track and that it fades out right after it takes another interesting turn at 3:00. At that point, the WIP in FL Studio was up to 1.98GB in RAM and things were going on here IRL that would've made working on it impossible. A little example: When I finished this version, I just got from home from what should've a small visit to the doctors - and that turned into a minor though immediate surgery for cancer... and THAT meant that I was going under the knife to get rid of cancer the same time my MOM did not 15 miles away. My biopsy came back clean, hers did not and she has to do some radiation for a couple of months and I have to help her with that. Still, considering how ugly the source was, and how difficult the track was, and how ridiculous things were this month, I genuinely believe this track came out pretty good. Its very interpretive, goes a lot of directions, cinematic and I got to fulfill a lot of my goals as a composer/arranger with this track. That doesn't even count the incredible mastering job Tweek did for me. It probably won't be anyone's favorite track on the project, but I do think you'll find a lot to like here.
