I know you can upgrade RAM, video and soundcards etc, because I've done that, but my actual processor is shite, like 1.4GHz, and I'm not impressed. Is it possible to upgrade that to something like 3GHz? Is it expensive, and wheres a good place to start? Am I gonna just have to buy a new PC or something gay like that?

Sorry dude, Remixors only.
-
You now have the power.
-
Oops, yeah I meant Koopa's theme. My bad.
-
Sorry yeah, Koopa's theme is what I meant to say.
-
I'm almost certain this is a midi rip for the most part, because your guitar samples/soundfont or whatever obviously doesn't have the range to play that low Eb, so it skips it out instead. Try playing around with the arrangement instead of just playing the original again but with drums over the top. Add some new parts to the theme and stuff. Also you'll want to sort out that string part, it's all over th eplace atm, notes are sustaining where they shouldn't.

Ah man... If this track wasn't already taken on the project, I would have instantly asked you to join the sumermario 64 project. Actually screw it, would you like to join anyway, but on a different track? I think you'd do an awesome job of Koopa's road. If your interested please do let me know. This WIP is great stuff.
-
Well... I'm really really trying to reserve that track for someone who is a drum genius, because it a very important aspect of that track and it needs to be done justice. Your WIPs are more spooky/atmospheric/orchestral from what I've heard, so regardless of who I think should do Koopa's theme, I would have reccomended you take Haunted House either way, cause thats the kind of track it is. Would that be ok?
-
Well... it'd have to be something spectacular to pull off such a short tune. If you mixed it with something else it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Sytrus is freaking sexy, I wish I had it. Check out the demos.

Avaris covered thing's pretty well but I'd just like to point things out: 5. Actually putting a portion of the original mp3 into a ReMix is frowned upon here, OCR is about reinterpretation as opposed to putting drums over the original. You are encouraged to recreate any sounds you hear from the original instead of just swiping them. 7. In terms of just the program (no added plugings) Reason is unstoppable. It has the best default sample set and it is the only program you mentioned I've been able to just make a mix start to finish with. However, if you have money to spend or a keen eye for free stuff on the internet like Darkesword, then slowly programs like FL take the lead, as they have good VST support and flexible automation (something which reason can sometimes lack). Coupled with the fact that sample packs for reason are ONLY for reason because of file formatting, expading your reason library for free is not easy, I've been trying. I'd say FL is a fine program to get for a beginner, as it lasts all the way until you get much better at remixing and you probably won't feel too limited by it. It's default effects are fantastic compared to most programs, and anything you don't have in terms of VSTs, you can probably find on the net somewhere.

OCR01557 - Final Fantasy VII "Speed Limit"
Fishy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Finally! I was wondering when they would post this, utterly awesome stuff. I still prefer the version with the Advent Children references, but hey, they're not allowed here which is a shame. OCR needs more sephfire. -
Everyone involved in the final track collab PLEASE check the update on the forums. If this is ever going to get done I need you to take just a look and at least learn the layout. Record some little ideas, send me a PM telling me how shite it is, just do anything that will help the thing move forwards, I can't arrange something for this many people by myself.

So how come they made such a completely irrelevant soundtrack for FFX-2, does Nobuo have a different sort of deal or something?
-
The WIPs are attached to the boards, so you need to go to the forum. There's a link on page 1. The co-ordinators got annoyed at new members trying to nudge their way in and I think you need approval to see them now, so I can't garauntee you'll be able to get in. As I said before, it doesn't matter how enthusiastic everyone is, how much you'd like to help or whatever. Leaking songs is what makes the project LESS of a surprise to you, and less of a treat. Therefore it's in YOUR best interests that we're not letting you hear a note. I hope you'll understand and stop asking, I've seen your name pop up before asking to hear stuff . Sorry.
-
Doesn't matter how serious you are, no one hears anything past the public WIPs until the whole thing is done. Unless your directly involved with the remixing or the artwork or something, no dice. Sorry. We do appreciate your interest though. It shouldn't be *too* long now. We're got our first few finished tracks, and the others aren't too far behind.

How essential is a MIDI keyboard?
Fishy replied to DDRKirby(ISQ)'s topic in Music Composition & Production
The main reason I prefer Reason to FL is because my MIDI keyboard doesn't have ANY delay in reason because it has such a crazily low CPU usage, so I can sequence by playing (even at half speed cause I suck at piano) and just touch it up. SO much faster then sequencing by hand. Of course once I get my hands on a midi guitar pickup you'll hear some crazy stuff. -
My friends are all so lame at the game. Not lame as in crap, lame as in annoying. One of them is always peach, spamming turnips and down smashes; one always uses jiggly; one uses game and watch (even though he can whoop with fox, he prefers to be annoying). It's just a big list of irritating characters. That said I'm starting to use captain falcon a lot lately. I see how many times I can do his pose without getting hit. My record is about 12.

You just know they need the main theme for waling down the aisle. Nice one prophet .

Sweet. Go ahead and sign up to the forums (link page 1) and I'll give you full access as soon as I see you. Btw, anyone is free to sign up and post in the public areas to post or ask questions.

We now have three nice little WIPs, (including one from Zoola, sorry prophet) which is cool. I'm hoping this posting will be contagious. pu and Zoola are on my unnofficial "awesome" list for their enthusiasm.

Well, to be fair, game music isn't written primarily to be stand alone. I wouldn't say it's important to take it out of context considering the importance of it's context. It's like saying butter is nice in cakes but I don't like eating chunks of it by itself. The primary importance of game music is how well it fits the job of integrating with the scenes, characters and story-lines. I think it's unfair to judge it otherwise. If it does all those things well, when you buy the OST, you're going to love it regardless of whether or not you would have liked it having never played the games. If you like an OST having never played the game, even better, but you could enjoy it more by playing the game.

Acoustic Real Drum Sounds- In Need Of
Fishy replied to nousentre's topic in Music Composition & Production
I would very much appreciate that also. I have the ns kit and I love it, but it's not really appropriate for some heavier styles. Great for jazzy stuff though. -
Ah, Final Fantasy X was not Nobuo only. Watch yourself here, he only composed around half of the sountrack. Download the chiptunes from zophar, it has the name of the composer for each track. Nobuo wrote some of my favourite, and some obvious ones, like To Zanarkand, Yuna's Theme (and it's variations), all the character themes (including all the seymour tracks). The other two guys are: Junya Nakano: He wrote the worst tracks imo, like Enemy Attack, and Inflexible Determination, Hurry, those ones. Redeemeing tack is Aeon Battle, pure awesome. I mean they were good, but hes got nothing on Nobuo. Masashi Hamauzu: This guy is cool. He wrote a lot of the more epic songs, aswell as the ambient type tracks. He did Thunder Plains, Challenge, Blitz Off, and the awesome Besaid's Island. In terms off the other soundtracks, VIII was awesome but fairly short. IX was a bit weaker but way more tracks, and lots of nice variations. A bit more Rennaisance then the others, with harpsichords and recorders and stuff.

OCR01553 - Tetris Attack "Final Panic"
Fishy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is bitchin' Tweek. Lots of atmosphere to this. I love the drum work as usual. Pretty different from your other stuff as there are pretty much no synths, which I wasn't expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised for sure . More!
