  1. This has a sneaky yet light relaxed feel to it - I like it! Well done here, the song makes me smile.
  2. 0:43 sounded a bit weird to me how the instruments melded together. But more on the song itself, it is an amalgamation of styles held coherent by the orchestration. The samples probably could be better, and the ending leaves more to be desired, but the framework for the most part is solid. I think some tweaks could make this song a lot stronger though.
  3. Could've swore I commented on this - maybe it was to Justin directly though. This is an approach to the source material that I didn't expect, some drum & bass action with a synth guitar paving the way. My only real gripe with the song is that it is too short! I felt like more could have been done with it to make it feel more complete, such as maybe varying the tempo with a marching section before launching into something else. That ending is too unsatisfying for me . The use of the sax in the song was a nice touch to vary things up though. The song as it is is a solid job all around (minus that ending!).
  4. Interesting style you have here, it exudes a particular type of minimalism, at least as far as metal is concerned. I personally didn't like the transition to the slow part, but otherwise I found this a nice listen and would love to hear more!
  5. Smooth Sagat? Stranger things have been made. This has a smooth relaxing groove to it, and the keys + flute combo really emphasize that aspect. The guitar also does a great job in enhancing the relaxed nature of the song. I enjoyed the listen quite a bit when I first heard it when HvV came out, but I think I appreciate it more as an individual song. It's well done!
  6. Talk about a happy song! This happy hardcore song does differ from typical songs in the genre with a more complex usage of instrumentation though, and a distinct lack of cheesy vocals. Just a fun listen overall!
  7. This song is certainly filmesque, as I should come to expect from Beckett007. Thankfully this approach provides something different when compared to all of the traditional Ice Cap mixes into something with a grand feel.
  8. This mix intrigues me with the gentle combination of sounds, at least until the drums kick in about halfway through. The drums & bassline disrupt the organic & mysterious aspect of the piece. To be honest, I liked the song a lot more without those instruments, it had me curious. Still, the song offers something different from the norm.
  9. This mix, while not completely polished, is one of the most enjoyable mixes on the site for me - part of that might be to having a soft spot for female vocals, and Jill sings well enough here. I would absolutely love an updated version of this!
  10. For the past month it hasn't been as active I think, partly due to my having not been on due to internet troubles & Marine Corps duty. I was going to go on tonight but it looks like I'm stuck analyzing all of the potential roommates who have visited so I can make a decision. Tomorrow night I'll try to make it on around 10 though!
  11. My internet has been broken for almost a week . Here's to hoping the technicians fix it today! Edit: And now it's up and should be good! I'll probably be playing starting Saturday or Sunday though, it's pretty busy on my end atm.
  12. I hear ya on that - because I'm on Verizon, that means I will be forced to pay full price on any new phone now. Share Everything is such bullshit.
  13. I have been to a few big cons, and I have had a hard time finding things of interest to me at them - it's a wonder how they thrive to me. MAGFest is special due to large tight knit communities actively taking a part of it and its central theme/appeal has not been changed.
  14. Oh hey, didn't know Jake can do chiptunes too. The song doesn't do overly complex things, but that isn't really necessary here. I would've liked to see some more instrumentation personally to keep things more interesting, although a lot of the sounds chosen seem to be more domineering. A straightforward song for the most part.
  15. I guess I won't really get into the production issues much, although I do want to note that the guitar playing before the chugs start in the song sounds not as tight as they should be and sticks out like a sore thumb for me. Going to have to agree with OA that the ending was weak. Otherwise, solid take on The Extreme (for the most part).
  16. I think this track would have fit better than Andy's take on it for the first part of the FF5 album series, although I can't argue too much with more FF5 remixes. The track definitely does come off as a dark, slow march early on, although that changes as the song goes on. There are a few moments where the choir sounds strange, but not a huge dealbreaker. I do like the touch of The Land Unknown used in the song, I think it adds some contrast to the main Exdeath source with its more dainty & sad reality. I think what's here is not bad, although I think the shifting in the last minute or so of the song from the different sources isn't executed well from a wholesome arrangement perspective, and weakens the cohesion of the song.
  17. Ooh, guitars up front and personal from the start! For this piece, I like how the rhythm guitars are utilized in addition to the lead. This is a rock solid heavy metal arrangement, which is to be expected from Grant.
  18. Mattias does a good job making songs that get you to bob your head to, and this is no exception. The impression I get from the melody is that it could be arranged in slightly different ways for drastically different effects, which makes the approach Mattias went for here intriguing. A well done brooding piece!
  19. Whoa, funky yet features an ethnic sound. I love Joshua's work in general (as I repeat ad naseum), and this song is no exception. This track is unique with the asian ethnic sound approach to it, being in a lot of ways heavier than Joshua's normal funk heavy sound. I like seeing this branching out of style that has happened more recently in Joshua's work, and here we even have some crazier electronic effects about 2/3 of the way through the song. Just an overall package that keeps things fun and yet features a unique flair.
  20. A Mazedude mix of Kunal's work! This is a pretty short mix by Mazedude standards - I do find it interesting as with most Mazedude songs. Mazedude doesn't cease to amaze me with his creative songs in general, and this song does some interesting things with percussion-like drumming & beats going on that is D&Bish. Nice work as always, and it amazes me that all of this is done on a tracker!
  21. This really fits in a filmesque MGS game so I would say that Beckett007 did a great job in converting the song with that goal in mind.
  22. A short song, but well done. The song has dark overtones throughout, so Matt did his job here. Good job!
  23. Oh man I love that grooving bass here. Strangely, that bass reminds me of the Mega Man Zero boss song Crash. That bassline seriously makes the song for me, and everything else is icing on the cake. Solid song from Mattias - hell, the whole ANSWER album is probably underappreciated, it's good stuff.
