  1. Well, you definitely did a solid job of addressing the left-hand issues. After having a long time away to let this one grow on me, though, I'm definitely noticing the rigidity of your timing that some judges pointed out in the decision thread, and it's making this piece feel a bit more robotic than I'd like. Some subtle timing/velocity (more on the former than the latter) changes to make your song feel a bit less like it's being played by a sequencer would really go a long way. Other than that, I dig. Honestly, you could probably edge by with what you've got since the major issue with the previous version has been addressed, but while you're at it, fixing up some of the robotic-ness in your timing would push this from "really good" to "fantastic" status
  2. Yeeaaaaahhhh, this source ROCKS. Always wanted to remix it myself. Wow, there's some really cool soloing going on in here! I dig it Unfortunately, as far as OCRemix is concerned, this is mostly just soloing based off of the original song without a ton of overt source connections going on. I really did enjoy listening to this one, it's definitely got a lot of improvements on all fronts compared to your older mixes. Production is not too bad once this kicks in, though I feel like the gradual fade-in at the start didn't work well. It felt like you've got two separate buildups starting off the song that are ultimately clashing. Your drum samples don't feel like they're cutting the mustard either, they feel very dry and low-quality, nothing packs much of a punch on the percussion front, although your writing is pretty decent. You can try throwing some compression/EQ/light distortion on your drums to give them a bit more strength, but ultimately you'll probably have a hard time working in the confines of the low-quality samples you've got My best suggestion would be to track down some better samples or try using a kit with a bit more personality, to feed some uniqueness into your mix. I'm not convinced this one could really be OCR ready without a significant arrangement overhaul to include some more overt source usage (though I will say that you kept the soloing in the same spirit as the source, which definitely helps your case here) but even as a non-submission track I think there's ways you could improve the quality. Either way, it was a nice listen on a source I was really hoping would get tackled sooner or later!
  3. Listening to your newest render, I like the ambiance and the general soundscape you've got going on, and I'm appreciating the pretty crazy lead writing/synth choices, but your panning is throwing me off, especially in the intro. Having your kick hard-panned rarely seems like a good idea; if you're going to go for crazy panned percussion, you'd be able to get away with that most on the hats, which aren't going to sound distracting if they're bouncing around the stereo field because they're not mixed as loudly as snares and kicks. Basically, I'd suggest bringing some of your percussion elements closer to center (maybe not panned 100% center but not all the way to the right/left, either.) This issue becomes sort of moot once the song builds up but it's definitely worth noting as it really distracted me while I was listening to the first minute or so. The kick needs some beef to it, I get the feeling that fixing that one issue would even help with things like the underwhelming transition that I mentioned earlier. Stevo mentioned more specifics in his Mod Review regarding the percussion that I'm inclined to agree with as well. Other than that, your production seems pretty solid actually. The arrangement starts off pretty deceptively - the first minute was a neat intro, but it felt a bit too stretched out and didn't really accomplish as much as I was expecting. I didn't really have much faith in the mix's prognosis when the beat dropped in either, I like the vocal clip but the transition there just felt weak overall. However, despite the slow start, this mix actually really takes off and gets super-energetic, and feels very much like something I could imagine hearing on OCR. Great breakdown section with the piano (this is actually a rare instance where I think a noticeably-sequenced piano works just fine, actually) and a strong climax after that. Where's the ending, though? Bring back the notorious Star Fox vocal clip motif for an ambient outro, or do SOMETHING for an outro. I'm sure you could find a clever way to end off the track instead of just letting it fizzle out like that Basically, the bulk of this mix is really solid and definitely OCR quality in my opinion. There just needs to be some work on the mixing, as well as some arrangement fixes to bring the intro/outro/initial beat drop up to the quality level of the rest of the song. Very enjoyable listen though, I can't wait to hear this one tweaked a bit!
  4. ok, here's a joke for you that's humorous and informative!!

    "Knock Knock!"

    "Who's there?"

    "Orange."

    "Orange who?"

    "Where's my goddamn remix? ಠ_ಠ"

    ~

(I'm almost starting to feel bad about these...)

  5. The FL Studio notation in your signature doesn't have enough big chords. Please expand your chords to at least 250 notes or more in order to comply with OCR's signature guidelines.

  6. One of the most grand, memorable rock collabs on the site. Pretty much everything I have to express about this mix has been stated much more elegantly by the previous two posters, but I wanted to chime in because I almost let this one slip out of my routine, and I deeply regret it. Absolutely amazing, but I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from the two involved parties
  7. One of my favorite classic mixes right here, this embodies the very definition of dynamic music, eliciting a very powerful emotional response everytime I listen. This song feels like I'm ascending off into space, capturing both the rocky liftoff and then the graceful drifting off into nothingness. This works VERY well in sequence with his other 2 Guardian Legend mixes as part of a playlist. Much love for this mix and pretty much everything Wingless has done.
  8. NO. He needs to work on my song. You all are hogging my PwotoDome and I just need him to myself... for just a little bit
  9. It's not real prog rock unless it's at least 25 minutes long.
  10. I have nothing useful to contribute here, but looooooooooooooooolllllll
  11. You should feel ashamed too, but just in general. Nothing to do with your songs. Good news though, at long last, we've finally got a WAV from HoboKa (with an assist by the fantastic Flexstyle) for Boss Boogie SNES. This updated version is a lot more gritty, taking inspiration on the sound design side of things from soundtracks like DOOM and Quake. We're including the original master from audio fidelity that didn't get past the judges panel on the bonus disc, so you can hear what it sounded like before Flexstyle got his dastardly hands on it Either way, it's a hell of a track in its final form!
  12. No love for a fresh new Vurez track guys? For shame I really dig this, the instrument really toes the line between sounding like a retro piano sample and something very plucked/ethnic. Is this the Tonehammer plucked piano patch by any chance? Like this a lot man!
  13. You have 30 seconds to get back on Aim or I'm just going to pass out. Fair warning bro

  14. Cool avatar bro :-D

  15. Hey, I've always been a fan of your tunes, what've you been up to lately, musically-speaking? :-)

  16. You should PM me your track writeup too dude
  17. Proto: When this project is released, and I'm asked to do a retrospective on my favorite moments from throughout the entire creation process, I'd have to say that your post is the greatest moment of my OCR project directing career. I feel honored to have this moment of brilliance associated with Double the Trouble, and it makes me feel like all of my efforts have not been in vain. ggs. Ninja Edit 3 days later: FINISH YOUR DAMN TRACK ARRGHHHGHGAARARWAERRZGHLGH
  18. Protip: If you really wanted to be tactful about this, sending an alert via Private Message would have been a LOT more discreet than posting about it in the public thread for everyone to see
  19. Oh hells yeah. Been loving this one ever since the early days on the WIP forums, but these live performances put it WAY over the top. Very classy arrangement and performances all around, nice merging of the themes... Definitely one of my favorite mixposts in a loooong time. Dig it!
  20. Man, I was almost about to say how crazy it is that I actually agree on something you posted, and then I read the last 4 words. Tsk tsk
  21. I just want to point out that I'm gonna flip a bitch if this song still doesn't pass the panel in this form It's way too awesome.
  22. Alright, I am ecstatic to report that, as of this moment, we're walking away from our 3-day mastering... fest with 60 final WAVs that are all properly adapted for gapless playback. This is a pretty monumental accomplishment, and we can expect the last 10 songs that we don't quite have mixed down in the next week (with perhaps only one or two exceptions.) Needless to say, the project is VERY close to completion. I'm gonna encode/tag everything tonight and tomorrow and start prepping the final release package for submission to OCR. In the meantime, we'll also be pumping out a final video preview for your listening/viewing pleasure in the next week. You'll also finally see a preview of what we're doing with the artwork, which I can confidently say is the most unique artwork package of any project yet. That's the status so far, everybody's contributions are sounding unbelievably good and me and Flex are both very proud of how it's turning out. Hopefully you'll agree when this drops!
  23. Dude, send us your writeups and any wavs you haven't mastered yet XD
  24. Hey, for all the anticipators out there, me and Flexstyle are spending the weekend at his place doing final prep work on all of the album (minus the few songs that are still in the red... crossing our fingers that those won't hold us up.) But when this weekend is over, we'll have final mastered, encoded, tagged, and (where appropriate,) gapless playback-enabled MP3s and FLACs for about 95% of the project. The rest will come shortly after. We are going to make a huge amount of progress this weekend and be well on our way to release. GET EXCITE!
