OCR02480 - Castlevania "Of Whips and Strings"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
There's something about acoustic guitar that gives a song character that it wouldn't have with some other instruments, and even though this has bits of conservative and melody playing, it's that character and the arrangement idea that makes this shine. Very glad this got accepted, because a dual acoustic guitar arrangement of this many CastleVania tracks is something special the way it was played. Damn good stuff, fellas. -
OCR01518 - Final Fantasy X "How Much Longer"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Pot Hocket always seems to bring something more out of even the most beautiful sources, and this is a great example of that. If this kind of music and arrangement style is your thing, it's easy to love. Wonderful ReMix right here. -
OCR02473 - Puggsy "Last Lucky Planet"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'll be honest, I wasn't feeling this at the start, but the longer this ReMix went on, the more I began to like it. It really seemed to pull everything together shortly after the first minute. Very charming in a retro kind of way, mixing the quirky synths, the drums and the weird, but sorta happy melody. Not bad for your debut mixpost. -
Dude, you have a total knack for great smooth arrangements with neat little source cameos. I did chuckle a little at Gerudo Valley popping in, but it's such a welcomed addition to this ReMix, and those vocals by Sabrina are unbelievably gorgeous. I'm going to have to agree with Sarad, if you ever give Song of Storms a shot with an arrangement like this, that would be awesome. But this is a awesome ReMix in it's own right and I'll be enjoying this for a long time.

OCR01537 - Final Fantasy X "Summoner's Love"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Okay, so I absolutely love Besaid Island. The look, the music, and the general easy-going atmosphere makes it one of the towns that I would have picked to live in if given the chance in some fictional turn of events. That being said, DA's voice carries that same kind of easy-going, floating pleasantry that I originally got from that place. Gotta say, I think this may be one of my favorite vocal ReMixes from DA, and I think EFields handled the arrangement quite well. Nice work both of you. -
OCR02816 - Dark Cloud 2 "Fishing Spirit"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow, this is pretty freaking cool. Love the section around 1:49 as well, those were some good instrument choices there. Upbeat and cinematic, this just has a good feeling to it. Terrific ReMix, Moomba, seriously. -
OCR02815 - Breath of Death VII "Quest in Peace"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a pretty damn good example of ReMixes that carry out a whole up and down emotional spectrum, and the arrangement style (along with the range the instruments went in) just hammers it in. Amazing collab by all of you! -
Happy Birthday, man! Have a great one!

OCR02471 - No More Heroes "The 51st"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm pretty middle of the road on this one. While I enjoyed the ReMix and would listen to it again, probably several times, it just wasn't one of my favorites. Still, it's always nice to hear a dubstepish mix that isn't grating or annoying, so plenty of positives going on for this mix. Not bad. -
OCR02814 - Choujin Sentai Jetman "Itsutsu no Chikara"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Woooo, boy, this is freaking blazing from all the energy and guitar work, but in a good way, as it seems to be right where it needs to be to sound great without going too overboard. I love heroic suped up J-Rock arrangement's like this that get you pumped, and being one of those arrangements that stick close to the source while putting your own personalization on it makes it all the better to me. Definitely recommended. -
Games you are excited for that release in 2014
Crulex replied to Ryan Jobson's topic in General Discussion
I'm actually not looking forward to much since I'm spending more time trying to play games that I should have played years ago (classic NES/Sega and early PS2 stuff), but there are some that have caught my eye. Bravely Default- Normally don't play a whole lot of RPG's, but the hype this has been getting and the demo have me interested at least. Smash 4: Do I really need to elaborate? Smash for 3DS, done. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse: Story that makes sense from where the sequel left off, game mechanics being varied for the new pirate style, Jake Kaufman back on music......just have to see when this will actually come out. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze: Don't have a Wii U and certainly don't want a Wii U just for this one game, but I'll find a way to play this somehow down the line even if I have to borrow/rent a Wii U and the game from a friend. Kirby Triple Deluxe: Because Kirby hasn't let me down yet. -
OCR02812 - Castlevania (N64) "Clockwork Groove"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Seriously, what is that bubbly popping sound in this ReMix? It sounds awesome and sounds like it fits right in with the rest of the instrumentation. Eino has been pumping out a lot of great work lately, and this is a fine addition to the collection. Good job on this Castlevania 64 mix. -
OCR02810 - Mass Effect "Full Paragon"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Rock that just comes out in full force without being too in your face is a nice change of pace from what I've been hearing lately, and this ReMix sounds like a terrific take on the map to me. Electric guitar carries a lot of power and the flow of the mix sounds natural. Pretty sweet, Psycho Crusher. -
OCR02813 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "What We Left Behind"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The ending theme of Sonic 3 is one that I enjoyed for being of the of the few early Sonic endings to not be just a medley of previous stages, making it really feel like an ending. Good to see that spirit and "grand easing finale" feeling represented here. Some production elements are so open, they could be picked over like a vulture picking over Simba if you wanted to, but overall, I think the pros solidly outweigh the cons. Not bad, man. -
OCR02811 - Plok "Dolphin with a Shotgun"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Certainly not what I was expecting from a Plok ReMix, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Impressive and creative arrangement from Mazedude, and I can totally feel some Ecco vibes coming out of this. Great production as well. You did a fine job with this ReMix, good sir! -
OCR02809 - Corpse Party (PSP & PC98) "Heavenly Horrors"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Corpse party, huh? Sounds fun. Anyway, this ReMix has a lot of energy and switches between actiony to spooky throughout the run, which I loved. Reminds me of other dojin type soundtracks that were in the same style or close to it, so this would fit in perfectly with them. This kind of quality is the thing that makes me a big fan of DigiE's work. Terrific ReMix, guys. -
Downtown / City Night Jazz ReMix of a SmartBall game song? That's pretty damn cool, man. Smooth, clean, sexy, fun to listen to, this ReMix is ace and a great ReMix to help kick off 2014. Nice work on this one, OA. I'll be having this on repeat for a quite a while.

For a first go at dubstep, this is pretty good, I gotta say. I think you did a decent job of weaving in and out of Cammy and Ken's theme, especially right in the middle at about 2:05 and on. It's awesome how often two SF themes seem to blend together naturally. SFX were added but not overused, and you balanced dub with melody, all in all, not bad at all. Obviously, things are there that will be picked at, but as a listener, I enjoyed it.

OCR02805 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Sinfonía del Sabio"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ooooh, man, those guitars and the jazz flute! So much love for the instrument choices and usage here. Honestly, this is the kind of ReMix I would like to hear if DKC went through an HD update, because it does have a little bit of conservativeness at first, but then evolves from there, which is one of my favorite things a ReMix can do, combining nostalgia and innovation. Well done, man! -
OCR02804 - Donkey Kong Country "Focus"
Crulex replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice long intro that builds into the progressive beat, but I do have to agree that the volume discrepancy was just a tad to much once you got past the intro, but it wasn't something that a simple turning up and down of the volume couldn't fix. Being that Fear Factory is my favorite DKC1 source, I love how the middle section at 4:48 was handled before the ReMix breaks out of it's bonds for a moment. Overall, a few things that could be nitpicked at, but certainly nothing that broke the ReMix. Good stuff. -
No problem, man. It was a damn good ReMix, so it was easy to review. Thanks again for the kudos!

OCR02803 - Chrono Trigger "Oh, Traveller from an Arcane Land"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I don't have many issues with regular crazy, chaotic dubstep when done right, because I have heard chaotic dubstep done right, and it's nice to go hard sometimes. However, I actually do prefer this kind of tamer dubstep, where it focuses more on the melody of the ReMix and only dubawubs to get the appropriate gritty or synthy sound and electronic buzz going in the arrangement. Adding rather than just distorting. Very clean, not headache inducing, and uses dubstep ideas without going the "let's just grind it to dust and see what happens" route. Not bad, Homeslice. -
OCR02802 - Gunstar Heroes "Square Zero"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The synth work on this is pretty sick, man. I can totally picture something like this on a modern military action scene (running and gunning type stuff). Great sound, neat arrangement and solid ReMix all around.
