  1. I'm the kind of person that usually applauds working with what you have, but have you considered moving to something like Reaper, or even a trial version of FL Studio, Cubase, Sonar, etc. ? That's really amazing that you'd make something quite large like that with Audacity (I could only do extremely basic and cheesy hip hop beats when I first messed with it a long while ago), but I think you could really benefit your workflow by trying a slightly heavier DAW. yeah the Fish Fillet stuff are plugins, and I'm not sure they're standalone. But on the subject of Guitar Rig, and Native Instruments in general, most if not all of their stuff are standalone. I wouldn't really recommend Guitar Rig for orchestral/symphonic stuff since I feel like it works best with more brash instruments like horns, rock vocals, guitars (duhhh); but GRig has good stuff for volume as well. Since I don't have a lot of pre-amp post-recording hardware I have to really on Guitar Rig to boost and bring the best sound out of my guitar playing, and it does a fine job with giving me the volume I desire without clicking and popping. The dynamics tools in GR5 are usually what I use for most of my guitar and horns stuff. (and of course, the same applies to other Amp simulator suite stuff like Th2 overloud, LePou, etc. ) yeeeah, I'm not very familiar with Audacity so I can't give you too much advice outside of general umbrella stuff, but seriously think about at least playing around with a DAW like Reaper. And I assume with the soundfonts you're running through something like sfz+ or sfzorzando, etc. ?
  2. Yeah, meta's opting not to talk about it a lot right now because he's waiting for a certain remix submission to drop first before he highlights his music, so I can dig and respect that (I'm doing the same thing with my original music as well, so I see where he's coming from). Til then, there's that Angrysons link Zoltan posted, and his sig goes to it as well. But, trying to contain myself from fanwanking too hard, you ladies and gents seriously need to check that AngrySons album out (it's a duo consisting of Meta and his friend Psychosis Abstrakt). I appreciate and can usually dig all forms of music, but with hip hop especially I am very particular about what I truthfully respect. Besides Kid Cudi's "Indicud," this year was incrrrredibly boring for me as a hip hop fan because nothing really raised my eyebrows or had me banging my head outside of some of my favorite internet beatsmiths (Ruku, Raisi, P.sus ,etc.), but this album came out of nowhere and reeeally surprised me from the first few seconds in. If you like aggressively witty, gloves-off hip hop that features tons of slick nerdcore allusions, then I strongly recommend giving the AngrySons debut a quick listen. I told meta that I've had Chrome Skeleton on repeat since my first listen of the album, and I'm actually having a hard time deciding what price to name because this shizzz is ridiculous. but again, that's just my opinion, and I know it probably won't be everybody's cup of tea. lucio's super dope too. I think Megaran goes without saying. you mention vg hip hop and Megaran had better already be on everybody's mind. Oh man, talk about old school nostalgia, Zyko! That certain Asterix remix is still one of my top ten favorite OCR remixes of all time. ALL TIME, son!
  3. Since I've never gotten the hang of limiting yet I usually try to boost as much as possible and then EQ afterwards to bring sounds back down to acceptable levels, regardless of genre (soft intimate orchestral stuff, or hard hitting complextro things). So take this with a grain of salt (and I'm sure the pros who know this kind of stuff inside and out will give you better answers really soon), but I've found the combination of BLOCKFISH and case-by-case eq adjustments (pulling back a good chunk of the mids and lows) to get me through just about everything concerning volume, while still preserving musicality: http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=2&subItem=5 EDIT: and honestly, the volume of that demo sounds great and acceptable to me. So unless you're one of those folks who prefer to have really loud mixes, I think whatever you're already doing is fine.
  4. clearly, there's been an increase of something in the water, because the proportion of dope tracks has increased tremendously lately. or this is a community-wide response to technomanga syndrome.
  5. looked at the lyrics first and was a bit skeptical that this would be really cheesy (no offense, and my bad for jumping to conclusions before even giving you a chance).... but then I listened to it, and Zoltan this is sooooo silly yet really good . If this is your first rap ever, then congratulations because you've got yourself a fan already and I'd really like to hear more. Now, concerning the negatives, the 'beat' reeeeaaally takes away from how classy and hammy the vocals are. If you want to keep the symphonic metal/hip hop hybrid thing, I strongly suggest changing the percussion to a dirty south trap/hype kind of beat, because I'm totally getting that vibe with your vocal delivery. If not dirty south/trap, you could have a NY/Philly boom bap kind of feel or something, but the point I'm getting at is that you could keep all the orchestral elements and guitars, but that beat is incredibly boring compared to how enthusiastic and lively the vocals are (but the "da da da" part had me grinnin pretty good). Not to hijack your thread or rep my own self, but here's an example of what you could go for with the trap feel: I'm kind of doing the opposite of you, trying to shift from hip hop to better myself in metal/rock. Keep the orchestral/symphonic/metal elements present, but just phatten that beat waaaaay more with some hard hitting 808 rapid fire drums. You feel me? good shiz, though. looking forward to more!
  6. ^^ maaaaan, don't even play around like that... getting my hopes waaaay up for the possibility of an Akumajo update...
  7. yeeeah, Charles kind of dropped the ball for a few years due to falling out with his label mates or something (I never looked into the details because he's not one of top favorites to follow), but he used to OBSESSIVELY allude to Sonic in his earlier raps. November 10th is just one of the most [in]famous ones, but I liked him overall in his heyday. And I'm talking to Meta a bit through emails right now about a bunch of things and to see if he's cool with it, but what I meant is that he recently came out with a siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick vgm rap album, and I keep hounding him that if he doesn't do so then I'll gladly make a thread for him here in the community to promote it because it is intense. I mean like, not a few songs in it starts getting good; no, from the first track you can tell this guy's about to throw it down. [/fanwank]
  8. It means you get NOTHING! YOU LOSE! good DAY sir!!!

  9. Charlessss Hamiltoooooon! November 10th, son! also... not trying to embarrass this guy, but OCR's own Metaphist is a monster. I'm serious, this guy is unbelievably sick (I told you man, I'm going to rep the heck out of you if you don't hop to it ). looking forward to the raps, Zoltan!
  10. homie, I hope you've got a thread somewhere around here to promote your new album because that is some legit sick stuff.... and it needs some attention! If you don't hop on that, I'm totally going to make a thread for you in the Community and promote the FUGGG out of you!

shit's waaaaaay too good to not get some good exposure. You have no idea how much I'm shaking my head over the sickness of it.

lmao, alright, I'll calm down now, done fanboying over ya for a while. XD

    peace

  11. @sci: ayyy, man. I do like some bmore stuff, and similar to the techniques with vaporware, I thoroughly enjoy screwed and chopped remixes even though I know that it literally is just a massively slowed down version of a song with a few stutters here and there. That Spongebob example actually is quite the ear worm and I like it just a little bit, I just meant that sampling in that manner (ie., taking an Oxy Clean commercial and going "Oxy Clean will make your laundry fresh, fresh, fresh , fr-fr-fr-fr-fresh," for the entire song) tends to be really lazy and cheesy imo; but obviously, since I like screwed and Chopped stuff (which is, admittedly, extremely lazy) I won't lie that it's mostly a matter of preference. and you pretty much hit it right on the money what I was trying to say. I enjoy sampling (And listening to sample-heavy tracks) mostly for the sake of nostalgia as well as inspiration to go research what the arrangers sampled; my appreciation for different artists I never would've heard before expanded practically by 100% after discovering producers like Nujabes or Fantastic Plastic Machine, and similar to how listening to a Buckethead solo might lead newcomers to Paul Gilbert or a Dave Brubeck piece might persuade others to check out composers like Bela Bartok or Gershwin, I think there's nothing wrong with sampling that encourages music appreciation (or sampling that just sounds damn good and makes the listener feel better or pumped, etc. in general). so yeah, main thing I'm saying is that 'sampling' in general isn't bad just like wobble bass or metal growls aren't 'bad' in general either; it's all how it's executed.
  12. MangaMan, OrangeDragan, and I have been working diligently this past year to revamp the focus and goals of this project. I liked MangaMan's initial ideas very much and I believe this will be a very interesting project to collaborate on, but we just really needed to hone in on the specifics of the vision instead of tackling what would inevitably be a mammoth album. So if any of you who originally showed interest in this are still up for this, or if you never stumbled upon this thread before, you can be expecting an overhaul change to the OP(s) in a few days or so, and then we'll be getting back to recruiting for the revamped Tears of The Moon project idea!
  13. And this'll be posted on Lusipurr when you two are done? I'm looking forward to hearing how this comes out with Orangedragan's vocals. loving the various guitar/train sfx thingies towards the end and the overall chill groove. good stuff right here.
  14. @Mustin: Just Blaze comes out with some really interesting things every now and then. can't find the 'Making Of' video for that track anywhere (or I'm not searching too good), but it's pretty cool. lol, I was joking with Black Panther that basically the only sampling that I can't stand or even defend is stuff like this: I'm just not into that ratchet music sampling, but to each their own. EDIT: oh yeah, not to embarrass this guy, but if you like more liberal, experimental, ambient sampling you folks should check out Rukunetsu. His stuff is the shhhhhhhiiiiz.
  15. "...meanwhile opponent is 7-10 feet away."

that's not a problem with Naruto. That's standard protocol for all shonen anime. :

It's a tradition! Ya gotta reminisce so your opponent knows that the next few punches won't hurt them nearly as much as the traumatic past of bromance hurt you (the protagonist).

  16. Some of you already know that my answer is a definite 'yay.' I'm ALL about the sampling. But not Robot Rock type sampling, more along these lines: I never knew who Todd Edwards was before Daft Punk's 'RAM' album that came a few months ago, but I think I've realized that that kind of 'melodic' phrase sampling is what I gravitate towards (as a listener and musician). ^When I first started listening to people like Nujabes, Andre 3000 and JDilla I would spend weeeeeks on that site. It's quite eye-opening to see what some of the original sources were. Not too come across as overly opinionated about those 3, but I love how they'd sample some obscure jazz/classical/afro-latin stuff and then not just splice up the sample with a beat, but also record their own melodic stuff on top of it (ex., Nujabes played a bunch of beautiful flute lines on a few of his beats in addition to sampling some jazzy flute tracks).
  17. On the contrary, I'd actually prefer to be surprised with the final wav like everybody else =O

It's in good hands nonetheless.... I'll only be angry if he surprises me with like a Kyary sounding bubblegum pop final wav.... wait, no I won't. I'd welcome the shiizzzz out of that >:D

I've been a biiiiiig fan of "wobble bass" stuff for many years, so my experiments haven't changed at all since wobbles and wubs came into public prominence. I don't really know how to describe me stuff, but it's a huge melting pot of different genres and inspirations; the main constant is that I love phat bass lines, funky brass hits, and schizophrenic blips and stutters.

Yeeeeeah, I don't advertise myself hardly at all, but most of my stuff has been collecting dust due to work and irl stuff draining my enthusiasm, so when I leave my job hopefully I'll have a bunch of stuff that might sound cool to you. ^_^

  18. totally STILL striving towards the Nujab stuff. All of my huge music projects are either going in slow motion or are having to be delayed until I leave my job in August. T_T

bear with me, fam! I really, really, really want to still have that signature Ruku lush goodness on the project; I just have to sloooooooow waaaaay down til early August.

  19. Aaaaaawwww YYYyyyeeeeaaaah!!

  20. Aaaaaand done (not like it's life changing or anything on my part, but I'm always up for supporting great musicians I respect). plus I'm on a serious backlog for liking a bunch of FB pages and supporting people's Bandcamps.... easy on the good music, people. those cakes are amazing, btw.
  21. Yeah, in the OC Remix x RPGFan Music interview, there's a part where Darkesword goes into talking about how there's a lot of great technological assets for growth and promotion that OCR hasn't quite warmed up to yet, and that's kind of where I was going. Mehhh, "better safe than sorry," yes, but there's plenty of better ways than promoting by, say, word of mouth. Though I still occasionally run into gamers or vgm fans in real life who've never heard of the site (but have probably stumbled upon a remix), and when I mention OCR they look at me like "uhhhh, no thanks; not interested in moving to Orange County." ------------- switching subjects, I have two questions for the joojez: 1) I submitted something a few days ago and never got the automated confirmation response. Did anybody receive it, or should I resend the email? (you'll know it's from me because it has an epic novel length background story ). 2) I talked to Larry about this for a while and he told me to do some more research just to make sure, but when I asked again he never got back to me (no worries; I assumed he got bogged down with B&R or other behind the scenes stuff lately, or just life). G-Mixer, BrothaDom, and I are working on a Sonic medley remix for a Sega Saturn album, and we feel like it's obligatory to make a shout out to Sonic X-treme (our main source is "Can You Feel the Sunshine" from Sonic R, and we'll also be using secondary sources from 3D Blast, so the X-treme source usage is mostly out of nostalgic respect for the Sega Saturn). We're mostly likely going to directly sample stuff from X-treme in a style similar to halc's Pilotwings, but my concern isn't about the sampling; my question is since it is a cancelled game where most of the work done on it was just concept material but not official stuff does Sonic X-treme's soundtrack count as a legit vgm ost and can we use it in our remix (again, Can You Feel the Sunshine is our main source, but we want to reference X-treme prominently in there as well)?
  22. Oh yeah, and King Kuula. I swear, your remix sounds note-for-note precisely like something King Kuula would've done if he was to remix that source.

  23. 1. #yolo #killerstudiochops. Let's just go for it and ask questions later XD

    2. Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!! (squealing like an otaku preteen girl meeting her favorite voice actor in person). I'll pm you some more later this week about what we're going to do with it, I'm still gathering some other vocalists because it's going to be prrrretty big.

    3. O_O (jaw drops). You're awesome! You have no idea how excited I am about it (and getting to finally make some music babies with ya), but do me a huge favor and make sure to keep this waaaaay down under the radar for now. Ya know how I love me some good 'ol surprizezzz.

    4. welll... might not come out, but I see nothing wrong with striving to have it completed. lmao, and FFII hasn't come out yet, so why would III come already? BTW, don't laff if this is a dumb question but is "????" an actual username, or a surprise remixer?

  24. Update in the OP. MCFSigma and I are satisfied with it and are preparing to submit it, but I'd still like to share it here in the Workshop to show the changes we've made; I wanted to keep that right-in-the-pocket G-Funk groove, but I did take your suggestions into great consideration (aaaaand, I've listened to Kid Cudi's Indicud a lot throughout last month ). So thanks a lot for the feedback, it did help, and I believe this song is a lot better now on all levels (not too complicated, but also not boring). The last concern of ours is the title. We're stuck between "Tutti I Frutti," "The Ballad of Piantee Joe," and then I joked to MCFS that we might as well go with "Tutti I Frutti: The Ballad of Piantee Joe." your vote?
