  1. It's okay man, I looked at it, and I can assure you that I would have a problem with it too. It's really dissonant, and almost random.
  2. The instrumentation is pretty similar. The original sounds italian with almost a medieval town feel I suppose. Yours also has that acoustic-like bass, that same waltz meter, and that accordion-like synth. However, the notes sound different enough IMO that it sounds like you were just inspired by the original and wrote a new arrangement. I think this could pass as part of an OST.
  3. Oh yeah. Well, all hopes are dashed now
  4. I would really avoid using Javascript, because people can disable it on their own. Instead, if possible I think it should be done in jQuery. While it's similar to Javascript, it's referenced similar to CSS files, and afaik isn't able to just be turned off.
  5. You can click the upper left icon in the posting container. Leftmost, near "Font", "Size", etc. Might be better to have an Alt message for that.
  6. In my web design experience, I actually find it a bit of a hassle to do sidebar containers (like for the MultiQuote, Quote, etc. positioning you have there) since it requires a "float" function in CSS that depends on having enough space between column 1 and 2, and actually, it kinda limits the horizontal space for the signature. Something to consider. I like the Like button and Posted contents being next to the post number.
  7. That Zomboss On Your Roof is watching you, and the 50 Shades of Cray won't stop until you get Cerebral and pump out some tunes!
  8. I Kant Handel these puns. It's like you picked stuff off the cool Liszt, because you deserve high Marx on your picks. It's Sartre-istic sense that's actually kinda neat.
  9. Just kicked butt on my 4th Physical Chemistry exam. Feeling extra nerdy.

  10. Can be any music, not just OCR or video games.
  11. Here's something interesting... what music would you classify as "hot", "warm", "room temperature", "cool", and "cold", and at about what temperature? I'm not kidding. Post your picks! Here are some of mine: https://soundcloud.com/zircon-1/ice-lock (77 K, BP of liquid N2) Icy textures with the bells, lush reverb http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02176 (115 K, FP of Freon Refrigerant R-12) Lush reverb, distant, bright textures http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01977 (194.5 K, FP of dry ice) Cool chiffy lead and ambient pads, breathy ear candy, smooth chords http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01316 (373 K, desert) Literal desert ReMix. Some possible criteria: - Textures - Source tune setting (e.g. MegaMan Zero 3 - Snowy Plains = cold place) - Mix title - Lyrics Doesn't have to be an OC ReMix. Any music goes.
  12. Wow, Dr. Manhattan got a LOT of mileage out of this source tune. Well done man!
  13. I highly recommend the following: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02318 - IMO, the most complex zircon ReMix in his collection. Sounds huge, and totally encompasses your ears. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02655 - Some very intricate sequencing from Will, and really playful modulations. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01977 - Tasty harmonies, neat solos, and a nice cycle of Inspiration -> Original -> Inspiree -> ReMix. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02653 - Quite flawless execution, expansive, and goes quite far to impress. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02488 - IMO, the definitive Aquatic Ambiance ReMix. Spot-on reverb, nice and smooth lead work, and expansive soundscape. Develops well too.
  14. Probably what I was thinking back then was that I couldn't right click directly on the Kontakt pitch wheel near the bottom of the wrapper and click something to allow linking to a controller.
  15. Why does it take over one and a half minutes to bring in a lead sound? It's too long with only fake rhythm guitar and an overcompressed sound (yes, I could tell that the guitar was fake; there are no round robins at all, and all it plays are chords here, even on the ascensions). Compare this with and without a limiter. Listen for the difference in pumping volumes. Along with that, the main issues with this are fake guitar, mechanical drums, repetitive structure, and mechanical piano. That pretty much sums it up. You could have cut down on nearly half the arrangement and not lost any new ideas. Furthermore, the least you could do with your plugins is take the time to write more realistic velocities. No one plays at the same exact volume in the same exact way or evokes the same exact result in real life. The resultant sound from playing real instruments in the same way multiple times is not perfectly reproducible. At least you can simulate the volume differences, if not the timbral differences.
  16. Yeah... I was looking at this on my iPad, and on switching to the mobile version, I get that too. I guess you could go to the URL and change the page number there, but that's just a workaround. Alternatively, before you go into the topic, you could click the link right below the latest poster to get to the latest post.
  17. What device are you using? Emunator seemed to really like the way the mobile version looked.
  18. 1) I wanted both to be displayed at the same time 2) The link doesn't work. "You do not have permission to change your display name."
  19. Y'know, I liked having my real name displayed. =P
  20. That's not quite what I meant. What you have there is simply a video embed with resized margins to only show the controls. The video itself is still loading in full; what I had in mind was what I would still think is hard: extracting audio from the FLV file and using that as what's embedded, in an audio embed. I would imagine it requires a scanthrough of the video to rip the audio and a dynamic generation of a resultant audio file (like youtube-mp3.org). Honestly, that just sounds like a hassle; it's like reading through a file's coding line by line instead of looking at the whole thing at once (because you can't look at an entire video in zero time), and it sounds like a lot of work to do on each and every video embed. That's why I would prefer just having the link by itself, so that resources on OCR itself aren't too heavily taxed and there are no extra clicks; you just click once to see the video, versus clicking once to see a website that plays the video. The main differences are that you'll know what the video is before you click once, and that the video embed is harder to load than a simple link.
  21. I find it hilarious that some of my favorite metal is made with sample libraries. Top 5: https://soundcloud.com/isworks/shreddage-2-nuclear-dubstep-by If you haven't heard this, your life isn't complete yet. https://soundcloud.com/isworks/shreddage-2-wing-it-by-magnic Loved the vocals here, especially the low speaking part. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02070 Once you know who made this, 'nuff said. https://soundcloud.com/isworks/shreddage-2-subterrenea-by-ian Pretty much defines djent IMO. Super heavy, low tuning, and just brutal. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02676 Plenty of character in this. I don't see this as bad singing, just very emotional singing. --- And just for kicks, this dissonant, almost-metalstep thing I made, 'cause dubstep/metal mashups don't get enough love: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02773
  22. Ultimately I can sum up the sources of some of my past mixing issues to be (pre-2015): 1. Overboosting EQ in general Sometimes it's slight, sometimes it's super obvious. Listen closely. 2. Not choosing good sounds from the get-go Pick bad stuff, and you won't have a cohesive palette to work with. Furthermore, if the EQ on the sample is good as-is, you don't have to EQ as much to get it to sound good in context. 3. Volume imbalance between instruments This depends on your listening levels, but ultimately, it's hard to get volumes just right sometimes, especially when the complexity of the layering is high. 4. Not-so-good audio system Goal: flat frequency response, ideally. That way, you're not biased towards certain boosts or cuts to compensate (or overcompensate). 5. Compensating for loud mixing with poor-quality compressors Yeah. Think before you put on compressors. Why would you want to use something if you don't know why you're using it? Hardest thing to fix for me: 1 Easiest thing to fix for me: 5 If you get a good audio system, you'll be on track to addressing most of those. That's not to say it won't be hard. The rest is constant practice, patience, and critical listening. Good luck.
  23. Actually, the /forums/ directory currently redirects to the /community/ directory, so that's nice!
