  1. This is your most awful remix, Shael, I am so sorry to say that. First off, the mix is encoded at 22 Khz and the quality is a horrific live and that of an 8-track. It's evident that you inserted certain tracks in a "cut and paste" fashion similiar to what's done in Audicity when you insert sounds in an audio file. And cryk, man, you sound like David Spade on hellium which almost made me cry even if that was done purposely. It's not your voice that bothers me, I mean your rapping delivery is just hilarious at times, but it's how you sing. It pops my ears' blood vessels. The strangest thing is that people find this funny, and I actually have a thing for stupid mixes and movies like Kung POW which are of this nature, but I just can't keep it. It's just plain sickening, not just because there's nothing except groins inside, but the fact that the performance and execution of this mix is amateur. Face it, Shael, you have better talent than this, and I even thought "Music Is Hard, Man" should have made it onto this site. But this mix is sort of killing my love for your other mixes. I hope you keep working hard to get a whack of better mixs like your 2002 songs on this site soon, my friend. I'll keep downloading stuff you release on VGmix though. This won't stop me from liking what you put out currently.
  2. Well, finally, Carbo! I'm very surprised this happened (in a good way). I thought you'd never submit anything to OCR. Excellent guitar work. The bass is slightly beefy, then again, it could be just my EQ settings in Winamp. A+ A Classic! I love your stuff, CarboHyrdroM.
  3. I honestly thought this song had some very very wierd samples. The synths give this more of an electronic feel. I'm used to drum and bass with some acoustic instruments, but this didn't bother me at all. I really liked the pad that opens up the mix. Nice indeed. The percussion samples weren't too bad at all, but the snare just doesn't fit into the drum and bass category unlike Ubik's Tribal Warfare. This doesn't turn me off however as the sounds are very very unique. Good job and congratulations on producing a very strong remix as a first contribution to OCR after VGMix. A definate keeper.
  4. Congratulations Darangen. I read alot about your rejected mixes on the Judges Forums. It's great to see you finally made it through with perfect technical execution and excellent guitar playing. This does have an 80s feel and thank goodness no reverb on the snare drums. I also found the keychange very fitting as this them didn't sound great in D minor. Good job and congratulations again.
  5. I couldn't agree more. I especially like the ambience he throws in. Helicopters, guns firing every so often. goat's still the man.
  6. Love the rapping SGX. I even love the distortion effects over-top of your voice. The techno effects and strings and beats really get the party going. If only I could have reviewed this at VGmix, I would have given it Stuff of the Legends right there. A Classic! EDIT: I think it's the relation of the strings and the beats that hold this mix together. Good stuff.
  7. Ah, yes. Never heard much about this guy, but from what I heard, he's got some very good tunes. The strings and horns are composed very very nicely. Nixdorux has come along was as I heard his first mix was rated Average. Anyway, yeah. There's not much I can say about this. I like the oboe/clarinet that come in at around 2:05 and the instrument solos afterwards. Good stuff. If you enjoy this, pick up his latest Super Mario World's "Ghost" VGmix. It's a mixture of styles from John Williams to Rob Dougan who composed most of the orchestral scores from the Matrix. It's a very very sinister remix. http://www.vgmix.com/song_view.php?song_id=2129 You won't be dissappointed with his stuff. -Double A
  8. Hmmm....sounds pretty good. The guitar sounds a little artificial, but it's pretty okay. I love the castinets. I'm definately throwing those in a future rap song.
  9. fetus, can you please edit your post? I've got a new account now. I still stand my ground when I say this is the OC Rap Remix of the Year. Niggaz was decent (except for the profane language), but this song beats everything here. Perfect execution, flow is tight, and the east coast beatz are exactly as they should be. I'm also a huge fan of John Reuben's Primo/Wu Tang-type sound from Are We There Yet, so the bassline totally hooked me in. You are the man, Mr. Rican. I'll colab with you any day for you next rap remix.
  10. I kinda got tired of it (if you look above, you'll realize I got locked out of my previous account). I mean, it was a good song, but back then I was a noob remixer. This was my very very first mix, and I just mixed generic midi sound with a few beats and stuff. Listen to it and you can tell right off the bat. Still fun.
  11. To add to my review of the song at VGMix, all I can say is I still listen to it this very day, and I've had it for four months now. Good work, goat. If we ever meet face to face, first thing you get is a big hug. EDIT: I said it before and I'll say it again. If Ailsean and goat were both lions, Ailsean would growl, but goat will roar. Let's face it. This mix will blow you away.
  12. I already have a sig, but I can't get it to work properly even with the BBCode.
  13. It sounds like Charasmetic style worship music I hear on a Sunday morning in the piews (can't spell it). I enjoyed it. It's not my thing, but it's okay. Double A Ron
  14. Great stuff, po! You know, the song's a little too repetitive but, it's got everything to satisfy me, good beat, nice piano, and great leads. Love the E Piano on this one. If Aeris used this track to seduce Cloud, there will be action afterwards! Cloud's jaw will be on the floor with his toungue just nailed there by gravity. Tifa, you loose! Again good job!
  15. NO! ... NO!....... NOOOOOOO!!! I was going to do a remix of this one and be the first to get it up here, but NOOOOOO! Sine beat me to it! I have to get employed and then start remixing again!!!! GGRRRR! Whatever, the mix sounds great so you're forgiven. Why? The piano!!!! It's all bout the piano. I just love how the keys ring all over the place. Nice work! That synth's a little loud though, and the marimba was used in the original piece for that break. But it sounds good. The thing that keeps the beat in the original song is the bassline, but you've added a few things to really get fans of the song into it. Nice work!
  16. Boy, this is good. I like how that jazz guitar really smoothens the dungeon melody. This makes it sound alot happier than freakish like the original tune. It sounds like a soundtrack of a decisive situation for "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show". I'll bet Vince Guaraldi or Waynton Marsalis would've done their own arrangements of the same song. Good work guys!
  17. For multi-tracking: Magix Musik Maker 7 or higher!!! Why? Effects! That's the program I used to make my Floating Islands mixture. The program features everything from distortion, gain, reverb, equalizers, filter, and the mixer even supports auxiliries and plug-ins from Acid and Cakewalk. It even has synthisizers like: drum and bass, rythum editors, synth line creators and more. Only $45 Canadian. Only downside, track limit is 64.
  18. Coincidentially, I heard a commentary on Canadian Broadcasting Radio about how banjos were considered crap, basically old-fashioned, and only for polka and bluegrass. But the station said that a few songs use banjos in comentary rock and alternative music. But banjos in trance? Woo-ha! Now that's originality! Anyway, onto Double A Ron's praise and worshiping paragraph of Disco Dan's latest song. Pretty, good. I can't say it's as great as his Mega Man tunes, but Dan pulls in some good piano, violin, and banjo riffs. Nice! All in all though, basically the same stuff, odd synth lines, cool TB-303ish bass, good pads, and the special reverb setting. Typical Disco Dan stuff, with a few new acoustic influences here and there. Keep up the good work, Disco Dan! Double A...
  19. The very begginning scared the crap out of me when the cymbal crashed at 00'01 seconds. After that, the attacks of all instruments were okay. Then mistake to listening to a song for the first time on headphones. It'll blow you away. Peeples was one of my favorite remixers back in the days of yore. And I still listen to his tunes. This song has a gothic but original spin on it. The drums are looping, but the orchestration is awesome and very well built. BTW I *HEART* the pizzacato strings! Good work, Peeples, and if you're not dead or not fresh out of ideas, do some more remixes!
  20. I strongly agree. This is the first song on OCR I give a 10/10. Everything in the mix is at the level it should be. It's not "hard-to-listen-to" trance like bLiNd's Zelda 2 Temple Trance Mix. It kinda gives me the feel of the soundtrack of the movie "Cool World". And yeah, I love early nineties movies and music ( cheesy yet cool! ). Anyway, I love the variety of both acoustic and synth instruments used. The patches and loops all sound original. Drums and panned, flammed, distorted, and filtered as they should be, and no repeating of rythums every single measure. Awesome! I knew this guy wouldn't be able to find a sutable genre for this, which I'm glad, because I praise anyone who claims to be and is original. This guy proved it through his ReMix. For this good a mix of a infamous game, I give "Two Thumbs Up". Do more of this stuff, Ziwtra, or I'm hunting your music down!
  21. Or Grand Beach in Manitoba in a lake in the centre off North America! WOOOO! BTW, they say Grand Beach has the hottest girls on the planet, and the softest of sand (on the planet). Well, that would also explain why Manitoba also has the highest unwanted pregnancy rate in Canada. Whatever, this area should be for Double A's (that's me) or shall I say, my reviews only so I'll just stop wasting space. Bye! Oh yeah, next review is below you......are you shocked at what I just said?
  22. This mix is great stuff compared to his Mega Man X Brainsick Metal Mix. This covers alot of DKC2 themes from the Lost World Jungle theme at 4:19 to the water theme from DKC. It covered a very little of the mine theme. At first I thought this would be a little something from Swanky's Game Show theme. That would be classified under seductive music. But man was I wrong by far. This kind of reminds me of Christina Agulaira's take on "Lady Marmelade", a song which only gets me listening to it because of the cowbell used on every beat. BTW, If you're not doing the Beehive Theme, are you able to spare that for my next mix? Thanks for your services as long time remixer and judge. Double A Ron
