Which Games Don't You Make Remixes For?

Fine, I strongly dislike the Megaman character and his games.

Therefore, I shall never do any music from it.

nice save.

I just wanted to make sure I didn't divide the OCR community or make it look like a rant about certain games. I love you guys after all.

I think seeing the robot masters on everyone's forum sig made me sick of megaman too actually. :)

But, we are playing with people's childhood memories so don't make me bust on you!

I don't do games that I don't know or don't like the OST to begin with. I'm a guy of the 80s so I know a shitload of the best games from the NES/Snes/N64 (and a few Genesis), the best games.. those I used to rent for the weekends when I was young and when emulators didn't exist; wel I'm pretty much only interested by those. I think the nostalgia drives me a bit. :350:

I will never remix yoshi's story because it's awful

YOU SHUT YOUR GOD DAMN MOUTH.

Meh, anything can be re-contextualized to be something you like. Thusly, for me, pretty much nothing is ever OUT of the question... But I'm pretty tired of 'boss-themey' music that gets remixed into 'boss-themey music with better production', a lot of orchestrally things and rock things...

So Final Fantasy.

I don't have any music that I really refuse to do, but I most certainly prefer to work with catchy songs that I remember fondly. Since I grew up playing a Gamecube, my current "brain mixes" are a jazz-ish medley of Double Dash and a rockin' remix of the Hooktail battle theme from Thousand-Year Door.*

The problem with working with newer tracks is that (a) I can't deviate too much without the risk of "ruining" the source, and (B) The source sounds so good that there isn't much room for interpretation.

* P.S. Seriously guys WTF why are there no Paper Mario remixes yet?! If I'm the first one to get a PM ReMix posted, I will be sooooooooooo disappoint.

Ignoring a game series because it's particularly well done and beautiful makes no sense. Would you do the same to a woman with similar adjectives? Nerds!

I wouldn't avoid a series just because the music was so good that everyone liked it. That would be more reason for me to cover the music, because the music is GOOD, and people like it. I like it. It means something to me. :-D

I may avoid working with sources or games (or people) that have a negative emotional attachment to them.

I thought I remembered this question! I think I stand by my answer, though I was just going to put "I'd remix anything."

There's definitely games that include sour memories but I'd feel ok remixing them these days. Like Streets of Rage, I never thought I'd remix that because of how important it was in my childhood and playing it with my Uncle as a kid, but I think I could remix that today, and maybe dedicate it to him.

I think popular games like Ni No Kuni definitely have the bestest of musics, dat Joe Hisaishi. I'd remix it because it's amazing and I love it. But I've got no problem with remixing Big Nose the Cave Man either.

I wouldn't say games, but tracks instead. I could remix stuff from Sonic 2, but not the over-done tracks like Casino Night or Chemical Plant. However, remixing an underappreciated track like Sky Fortress was a pure delight.

I tend to try to remix tracks that aren't already too much covered, even if the game itself has been remixed to death.

I would say Sonic, but I've already done Green Hill Zone. I avoid Sonic and Mega Man, because honestly people seem obsessed with them in a way I can't understand. I'll stick with lesser covered games like Chrono Trigger. :-P

I could agree with this, though I still do remixes of Sonic songs. The thing is that Sonic stuff is really great stuff to remix. That's why it's so popular is that Sonic's got some legitimately great stuff and great stuff to remix. However, I love to kind of do things as differently as I can compared to everyone else (I've never been the "well that's what everyone else is doing" person), so I usually bring my own different style to remixes I do and Zelda tends to get remixed a lot but I often am disappointed because I feel like there's a lot of potential in Zelda songs that either never are remixed or have been and haven't satisfied me. So I do a lot of Zelda stuff.

I honestly don't know much about Mega Man so I that's why I've never really remixed anything from that franchise.

I've done a few Mario remixes, though. I'm obsessed with Mario stuff. Even when it's embarrassingly cheesy, I love it. Part of it is because of childhood, the other part of it is because honestly even some of the super cheesy stuff is actually kinda well-written. Some Mario music is flat-out dumb but still enjoyable, but the majority of it is actually really well done, thanks to Koji Kondo, may he live forever.

I tend to enjoy remixing older stuff, though, because I like to do my own little spin on it but kind of create something in a way where it's like "if I were to write this song and record it with the technology today, how would I do it." I love the chip tune sound but I often love to remix stuff simply to arrange it and record it with higher quality instruments just to create something to hear what it could potentially sound like today.

Speaking of which, there are plenty of songs from Super Mario 3D World that are remixes of really old songs in some of the earliest Mario games and not only does my nostalgia kick in, but even if they're cheesy like they tend to be, I absolutely love how Koji and his team reworked those old songs into the sound quality of video game music today. I just love it.

There's a Paper Mario remix album that is currently in the making. :)
