OCR's Official Discord Server
Arrow reacted to DarkeSword for a topic
We've been using IRC for many years but anyone who hangs out in #ocremix knows that it's been a bit dead lately. We've decided to set up a Discord server for OC ReMix in the hopes that people will be more inclined to use a more modern group-chat program. Join the OC ReMix Discord Server Discord can be used in-browser and also has desktop and mobile apps, and one REALLY nice feature is integrated voice chat, so if people want to use the OCR Discord to get some gaming chat going (Overwatch, LoL, etc.) we can set some channels up. Right now we've got a Community channel (for music and games discussion), a Workshop channel (for posting WIPs), and a Compo channel (for running compos and hosting listening parties). As always, community rules apply, i.e. don't be a jerk, etc. Join us for some discussion!1 point -

Square Enix Jazz Covers
timaeus222 reacted to Bowlerhat for a topic
hmmm... not sure what to think of this. First thing first, this isn't jazz. It's more kinda like hip hop or some kind of hybrid, but definitely no jazz. Not that it matters, but still kind of important to know i guess. I'm not sure if you're actively looking for feedback or just posting this for our enjoyment, so i'm just gonna quickly mention the stuff I noticed while browsing through the multiple tracks. - Some harmonic ambiguous stuff happening. Clashing notes which could be easily fixed. Nothing too big. - It could be my crappy laptop speakers and/or soundcloud, but the balance was a bit of at times. Too loud accompaniments compared to the leads. - The drums in the first cover don't flow at all. When writing for drums, always think in patterns and fluent motions for each limb. It kinda stops right in the middle, which disrupts the flow. It could work in another context, but the piano is playing swing time, and those drums ain't swinging at all. It all kind of contradict each other which makes it sound very unnatural. - At quite some moments the countermelodies are going straight through the frequency of the lead melody. Take care to have a clear distinction between the multiple melodies so that they don't interfere each other. Well, I think there was quite some more stuff, but this is all I can remember. If you want more feedback, some more explanations behind the things mentioned above or something else I can help with, just say so. Then I'll leisurely take the time to closely listen to your tracks. Nice work!!1 point -
Sonic Unleashed - Empire City (Vocal Remix)
Smooth4lyfe1987 reacted to Gario for a topic
Haa, your user name is appropriate, this IS smooth. Lovin' your vocals on this. Did you do the production on this too, or is this overlaid on top of the source? I can't tell, since there's no link to the source. Either way, this is pretty slick. If I had one thing that to bring up, sometimes the vocals stay in the same place (tone, pitch, style) for longer periods of time than I'd like (such as from 0:12 - 0:37), but it's not too big of a deal. I like it. Keep it comin'!1 point -

The Nikanoru reacted to Gario for a topic
Oh, awesome. Chiptunes are pretty sweet - glad I could introduce you to them! I think this came out in January, though First post is updated with minor mixing changes, will not be working on it further (got more things to work on!). Thanks for the input, everyone, it helps greatly!1 point -
Hey thanks everyone for picking up the album and all the kind words!! You guys are awesome!! It does seem that Wonderful and Second Chances are the favorite tracks, from what I've been hearing. Maybe Second Chances more so. The other thing that I keep hearing from others is that this album will give you the feels. So thank you for letting me know how you felt about the album. It's helpful and interesting, and moreover, it's so important to me (and any artist) to hear that people are enjoying and even having an emotional response to the music. It's the reason why I make it.1 point

The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
TheChargingRhino reacted to Lord_Bif for a topic
Hello everyone! I can't figure out why I didn't join actively this community before, so let's do this. I'm Lord Bif, I'm from Paris, France, I'm 29, and I create VGM covers on YouTube for about 2 years now (the name is Lord Bif Music). At first I basically wanted to learn how to record instruments and produce music and video, and for doing it without more difficulty, I thought I could do covers of VGM, since I'm a player too. That way, and by posting it on YT, I thought it was a good way for having feedback and imrpove myself. In the end, I love that, so I still do VGM covers, but with more arrangement, trying to go out of my comfort zone. I work on Cubase, and I play mostly drums, guitar, bass, and some piano and cello (as a newbie). My favorites games those days are Mass Effect series, Dragon Age series, and multiplayers games such as Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm and The Secret World. In real life, I'm a web developer and I like many things, but not extremely uncommon. Thanks for reading, and see you on the forums!1 point -

I love this. Normally I find bluegrass to have only a few gears, but this shows some of the versatility and additions to bluegrass that I haven't heard before. The outtro is brilliant, as Jarel says.1 point -

Nintendo is releasing a mini NES...
Native Jovian reacted to Meteo Xavier for a topic
For the love of God, man, it's a miniature NES with a healthy-ass supply of NES classics right from the get go, accepts Wii Classic controllers, has an HDMI output AND is an official Nintendo product that you have to do nothing but plug it in, and you shit on it? Such distasteful elitism. The closest thing wrong here is that it's oddly missing some other games on it, but at $60.00 it's such a good deal all the way around that it's a ultimately a moot point.1 point -
Castlevania III Beginning (The Bloodline Bounce)
timaeus222 reacted to KaS for a topic
I'm not qualified to say anything, just wanted to say that I've had this in my main playlist since I heard it in July c: It made me start trying chiptune out. Around 3:27-3:43 sounds very slightly cluttered IMO,though I love the effect it gives. I love the song!1 point -
Composers: Mixing & Mastering
Rich Brilli reacted to Nabeel Ansari for a topic
I'm not really sure if there's a reason to focus on one specifically, unless one is particularly deficient like was the case for me for a long time (had to set production aside since my comp was bad and it distracted me from improving it). You need to be able to do both, especially to do pitches and make your portfolio look impressive. A large amount of gigs still expect the composer to be a one-stop-shop, especially in mobile games. There is a point however where your composition will get better but other people won't really notice. It's up to you at that point if you want to keep improving it, otherwise keep streamlining the production skills. Fast composers can charge more and get more work because dey so fast.1 point -
The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
TheChargingRhino reacted to AwesomeYears for a topic
I don't have a particular franchise I arrange from, I just arrange songs that I like and that will sound good if arranged on piano. My main franchises I'm currently focusing on are Fantasy Life, Dokapon Kingdom and Super Smash Bros. An unusual choice but their soundtracks are underrated1 point -
