  1. Hi everyone! Just posting here because The Nikanoru extorted a WIP from me, and I thought it would be fair to share it with everyone Enjoy the systematic slaughter of everything moving under the sea on Aquas! https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0QpOgRYCqN3VmxCa3hqLXlheFE If you fancy the second part of the mix, I suggest you check one of my favorite artist of all time (a fellow frech guy) going by the name of The Algorithm. I really wanted to imitate his style for a long time, and this ReMix seemed to me like a good occasion to try a lot of new things. EDIT: The guitar solo at the begining is a placeholder, I am well aware that it contained a lot of mistakes

  3. Oh, snap! Didn't notice the extension. Been wanting to remix Easton Kingdom for aeons. Lemme see if I can cook up something awful in 3 hours. To clarify, I never meant to imply changing the compo to arrange super popular and overmixed songs. I was just using OCR as an example of success within the compo context. PRC must remain true to its goals and if you know me at all, then you know that arranging music from lesser-known games is my raison d'être as well. Amen to that, brother. PRC and OHC have done so much for me back when I joined the community. It's one of the best way for newcomers to get their feet wet with remixing or for old timers to jump right back in after a long break. Compos are always a fun challenge and a great place to share, learn and grow as an artist whilst having a good time.

  4. Damn, is it one of my favorite VG arrangers comin' back on the WIP boards, and I missed him? Ack! As usual, your style just oozing throughout this track. The performances are stylisticly slick, and the overall production evokes that 70's sound in that way you know how. The arrangement is a little bit hectic, losing me a little at the end of the middle section, but it's still easy enough to follow. As for the video, gotta love the American flag wearin' Swede dancin' with the guitar. Just can't beat it, really. Interestingly enough, after all the years of making amazing music, I know that you submit "Sky Diver Inside Her" some time back, and Larry rejected it due to "sampled drums". Visually seeing you perform the drums makes me think you should DEFINITELY submit something again, since you do make great stuff. Regardless, great stuff, and I hope more people check out some more Muthapluckin' B music because of this.

  5. Hello friends! I recently wrote an arrangement of the Underwater theme from Super Mario Bros. and wrote the sheet music/TAB for my arrangement for educational purposes and wanted to share it here in case anyone was interested. Hope you enjoy!

  6. Good to see three songs at the end. I was sick in the last days (don't worry it doesn't have anything to do with the low number of entries in the last rounds), so I wasn't able to 'officially' start the voting stage, but of course everyone knows how to vote. For those who don't, here's the announcement. I didn't listen to the songs yet, I will vote tomorrow. If my double vote will result in a tie, the song who gots the most points without my vote will win. Don't know for now, but I will vote first and then check how many votes there are (to not influence my vote). Welcome to the voting stage The mixing stage is over. This round has 3 songs. The following people compete against each other PlanarianHugger Supercoolmike DJ Mokram (If anyone wants a different colour / picture, please reply). For some reason I cannot upload new pictures anymore so I don't do that this time. To vote, do the following: Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries. Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen. Fill in the entries from first to third. State a reasoning for it. Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they only have to fill in the first box, they should leave the third box empty. They get a free first place if they vote, so it helps for the results. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments. The winner of last round, Bundeslang, has a vote that counts twice. Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results. You have until THIS Friday, December 2nd 12:59 am ThaSauce time to vote. The winner may choose the source tune for PRC337. Check the ThaSauce Page to vote. If anyone have issues voting via ThaSauce you can vote by sending me a PM at Ocremix.

Lufia II: Of Gods and Men

Will bring significant news on New Years day. ... I'm partly posting this information in order to hold myself to that promise. In the meantime: Yes, this project has been going on for a long time, but it hasn't been forgotten or abandoned yet. No, the directors do not want to let it go quite yet, because they still love the music that's already in it, and the sources are rich in possibility. Yes, the directors have been busy with life events (especially Bahamut), but that part has been less of an excuse for at least myself lately. Yes, this project has been going on since before the announcement of the Lufia DS remake, and continues long after its release. And finally: Yes, this is still a project that is being worked on, even if it's been dormant for a long time. I don't want people to feel abandoned on this, and I don't want to have people give up hope on it, so I will lay out the plans for this project's future on January 1st, 2017. Keep an eye out, especially if you feel like you want to contribute to it in some form or another.

    Gravity - Megaman Zero 2

Great choice of source - the MMZ games all have great music, and yet it seems suspiciously under-represented in comparison to the more classic series. They must've been too difficult to get through for people to hear the great music that came from them, that's the only explanation. It's a good idea for an arrangement, but the execution sounds like all the different instruments are playing in different rooms. Some instruments (like the drums) are just too dry in comparison to the other instruments, and others sound very rich and wet (like that steel string guitar at the beginning). I hear some effort to humanizes your instruments, but that lead overdrive guitar sounds thin and sampled (even with the effects you added). I think making all the instruments have a similar level of reverb to one another would help alleviate your issues considerably. Nice work, though - that game needs more love than it gets normally.

  10. Wassup guys! So I did a rap about the new gang in Pokemon Sun/Moon called Team Skull. I did the rap on the "Team Skull Encounter" theme from the game. Hope you guys like this!

  11. ... It would've actually made the soundtrack sound like "The World Ends with You" at times, which isn't a bad thing at all, lol.

  12. Extorted? All I did was ask! No hostages involved, I swear! LOL Je ne parle pas francais. Okay, I have built a spreadsheet like the overview where all the Remixers can listen to the current tracks. If you would like access, please PM me your email so I can share the spreadsheet with you. Reviews can be posted here - as you are all doing already. Also, please let me know if you are comfortable having your tracks posted to this spreadsheet and I will post them. EDIT: Oh, and I post the most current WIP to the spreadsheet - for example, @TheChargingRhino's synth-wave version of Clipped Wings is the one I posted, as that's the latest version she gave me.

  13. Just briefly going through the song, with my laptop speakers: Production: The main synth you open up with sounds like too much resonance. Was a little jarring at first. The lead that kicks in at 0:36-0:49 is not separating itself from the background synth and percussions. Your synth is being overpowered, and on the cymbal crashes the lead sounds like it is being distorted. Same issue at 1:01-1:16 with the synth being drowned out. Feel like overall there is too much happening in the high frequency range and not enough elsewhere. Those background synths sound really sharp. My ears just may be sensitive. Arrangement: I'm not sure how far along to this WIP you are, but I feel like it's pretty by-the-numbers until 1:22. Play around with the fills some more and see if you can come up with some more cool twists on the melody. The ending was a little abrupt. Sorry if this isn't helpful enough. I've just briefly went through it and my Macbook speakers aren't always a good judge of sound (I need to get some production headphones). Doing a good job with this so far. Loving the energy you're bringing to the track!

  14. It's pretty much a cover just now -- more than it is a remix -- but if you find someone with good hard-rock/metal knowledge and skills, I'm sure he's gonna help turn this into a kickass arrangement. What I'd do if I were would be to explore the guitar riffs composition further to have a sequence that sounds more 'realistic' and solid even thought you uses a pretty synthetic instrument. Such games as 'Thunder Force IV' did a great job as to make insanely advanced riff compos despite the limitation of the system -- check Lightning Strikes Again or Stand Up Against Myself for instance. That could just be me, but I was a drummer, I know I could clearly mess around with the drums SO bad and have a blast with it -- it's a little too nice and gentle to my taste as of now and could benefit from going real wild. Check Tsukumo-san's work and you'll know what I mean -- Legendary Wings is a good example. All three of these tracks you can find good MIDI versions of on VGMusic.com if you want to study their composition in a more convenient way

  15. Love that guitar -- reminds me of these 90s TV series I used to watch when I was younger :3 I guess this intro in general really fits Aqua. I'd probably introduce lower pads near the end/during the second half of this part to give a heavier and darker atmosphere to the section. Also, making the arpeggio a bit louder each time it 'resurfaces' could help in that regard and adding a pan delay to it might sound nice too. I guess some reverbed bass drums or some sort wouldn't be a bad idea either. This should help make this part less repetitive to me. Vivement la suite

  16. Hello, friends! Long time admirer of Ocremix. I'm trying to start a 3D artist carer and, as you, I like to remix some things from old games to practice. While you do it with music, I do it with 3D and Unreal Engine. These are my first two remixed stages from Donkey Kong: And now I'm trying my third one, this time the Ninja Training Grounds, from Maui Mallard - Cold Shadow, snes version. Some early pics: What I want is basically a kick ass remix of that song that follows some simple requests: -A little bit slower than the original. -It appears the song has a mix between oriental and tribal styles. Please keep the same instruments and this 'tribal/oriental vibe', but sounding like real instruments instead of midi/chiptune. -Keep the fidelity of the song, melody is the main part and the drums must be strong. -Add greatness. Like Vincent Rubinetti's remix of Lockjaw's Saga on the second video above. -You can add personal touches if you like, just don't add any electronic instrument please, keep the 'folk feeling' (maybe adding some shamisen, oriental flute etc). Once it's ready, I'll upload the video on Youtube and ArtStation with a link to your page and the appropriate credits. I can send you a full hd version as well, so you can share it anywhere (just don't forget to link me if you do). This is a non-profit work. We're doing it to sread ours skills and to enhance ours portfolios. Ask me questions if you like, and thanks in advance. Let's do it? =D

  17. Yes I do, I would use it in the case I didn't get a ocremix.

  18. I enjoy long-form ambient very much and this is a welcome addition to OCR catalog, personally speaking. Well paced and sounds pleasant. The guitar samples are a little funny though, and some of the pitch bends kind of stick out here and there. As a plus the samples and their usage reminds me of old school tracker tunes. The good far outweighs the minor criticisms there.

  19. Actually, at LEAST 10-15 rounds ago, I moved to a 2 week model and am usually pretty strict about it, other than the occasional extension. Or two (AT THE MOST). I haven't really been comparing the deadlines, but if everyone thinks that Bundaslang and I should stagger the due dates, then I'm open. Back to the previous tangent, I know that a 3-4 week long round is generally speaking too long, which I think Supercoolmike and someone else had pointed out a while back. Also... I will have to get more involved in PRC somehow - if anything it'd inspire me to get off my ass and actually remix something - I don't wish to see PRC going extinct T_T

  22. I thought this was a fun pun, so I had to make it. I'll probably make more of these, so we'll call this Part 1. Anyway, this is a straight mashup of Sonic and Bare Knuckle, both from the Genesis. The sounds may come straight from the Genesis, but I had to severely alter the Bare Knuckle songs to get them to fit with the Sonic songs. This mashup includes "Green Hill Zone", "Never Return Alive", "Chemical Plant Zone", and "Too Deep".

  23. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it a lot. I'm not stopping PRC yet; only if the upcoming 10 rounds have 10 extensions and <= 10 songs with only 10 votes and 5 default wins by myself I might consider it. I also don't want to stop remixing unknown sources and start remixing the Ice Cap theme for the 29658th time, since that will be the end of PRC and the start of the BRC (Bundeslang's Remix Competition). We already had someting in the past called the Popular Track Music Competition (only 1 round was done, Terra's Theme). Some interesting comments are made already, like the point about the length of the contest. Another interesting discussion might be: should PRC and MnP have similar deadlines (so that people can choose between or do both) or have different deadlines so that there's always a possibility to work on a song for one of the contests. I might change the schedule a bit so that deadlines are not at the same date (MnP has a bit longer remixing stage and takes 3 weeks in total on average). I take this all into account when I set up the poll for the next round.

  24. Epic stuff. eval: It seems to hit all the high points at the same timestamps. Probably too conservative. Too much of a cover for what ocr sees as a ReMix. Soundwise, the only thing that really bothers me is the rather synthetic bass drop, that doesn't fit the orchestral sound. Nothing else stands out. And that might be a problem. It might need a more clear lead, a more clear mixing, as the whole thing sometimes sounds like a big orchestral mess, more so than the original. 1:46 is a good example of this. This is either solved in the arrangement or in the mixing. Unless you want that less hierarchic ensemble sound. I wouldn't bother submitting this, it's just too similar to the original. It's a really cool cover, and you've clearly got the technical chops for this stuff. Looking forward to hearing a ReMix from you at some point.

  26. Zisotto here! Just wanted to thank you both so much for your very thoughtful and kind words. I did this mix about a year ago and to receive such appreciative praise is very encouraging to me. This was actually one of the first remixes I ever did, about 5 or 6 months after I learned my first (and only) DAW, Cubase. I'm really thankful for this community and the staff, fellow remixers, and fans for making it what it is. I haven't really experimented with ambient sounds since this song, and have been trying to develop my own original music and sound which is an infusion of electronica and some other elements which vary from song to song. I remember this song took me over a month to complete, around 60 hours, probably double or triple what I usually spend on a song, because I was meticulously crafting each instrument track, but it was worth it! I'm looking forward to making more vg remixes in addition to my own music, so stay tuned and feel free to follow me on YouTube in the meantime! Thank you again
