  1. Sounding really good! Something that I'm hearing would be a little variation in the piano part; maybe some arpeggiation of the chords here and there, or some flourishes or changes in rhythmyc pattern to keep it from getting monotonous. The guitar could also use some compression to even it out, but like you said you're a ways off from mixing stages, so I'm sure you know that already. I really like the breaks at 1:28, etc. and your chord voicings over all; really gives a new flavor to the tune.

  2. Hi everyone! I'm currently working on a remix of DDD from SM64. I actually played the melody from memory, so it might sound a bit different than the original. It's still unfinished (hence the abrupt ending lol). I didn't do much in terms of mixing, so i guess it will need some work in that regard too. 3. Well, I'm not a musician, I don't perform, so take my advice with a grain of salt or three: If you're not being challenged & you're not growing from the performance opportunities, is it really that much of a risk/loss? That being said, if you know these folks & have a relationship, I'd try to assert yourself, propose some changes that would make the whole thing better (seems like having arrangements would be a good start!), volunteer to put in the effort to make these changes happen, and see if you get anywhere. If you do, great! If you don't... do you want to be a part of something you know is fundamentally flawed but which resists any efforts on your part to address those flaws? I'd tend to say no... in which case, maybe commute to Amarillo and see what's happening there, meet some new people, go on some adventures, etc. until something clicks?

  4. I think he's calling all gaming format files "chiptunes", in this case. It's the wrong term, obviously, but that's what I gather from his post. NES has the .nsf files, Genesis has .vgm files, SNES has .spc, etc.. From a small search, it looks like the Gamecube equivalent would be the .hps or .adp file format, which does need a special plug-in for Winamp to read the files. I won't link any sites here (for questionable legality reasons), but do a quick search for "gamecube hps adp" and you'll find places to get your Gamecube native soundtracks and the necessary plug in for Winamp. Hope that helps.

  5. The 5th? Ahh, probably won't be able to get a bonus mix up then... It was my week for the Robots vs. Knights compo, and that took up all my time last week.

  8. Sonic 2's continue screen. Sonic is just chilling on the ground and Tails is like "GET BACK TO WORK!"

  9. Highly soundtrack-ish to me, which is great. Giving a ReMix this much time to breathe, build, evolve and develop always seems to work extremely well for these kinds of orchestral pieces, and being a fan of well-done waltzes, I applaud this one. It really does sound like a well told story through music. Very cool.

  10. I've been playing with this a little this weekend. I could use some general feedback on my mixing and instrumentation so I'll be submitting something.

  12. I'm also probably not the best source of advice, but it sounds pretty good to me. The only things I take issue with are: -The drums sound fake, partly in terms of sound quality, and partly because they're not quite arranged the way a real drummer would play the part. The first 30 seconds stood out to me the most in this regard. -I don't really like the part from 1:50-2:10. To me it sounds like filler. I think you could do something to make it more interesting.

  13. I dunno if it's just me, but there's a little guitar lick at :44 that seems oddly timed and I just grabbed onto it lol. I'm not someone who can speak for the judges, but to me arrangement sounds alright, except what might set this back is that you don't do too much different at the end, you just go back into the regular theme, though the ending adds some variety. Other than that, I don't really see many problems with this. Might wanna wait for someone with a bit more professional advice, this is about as far as I feel I can go lol. I don't know too much about the style, either.

  14. I'm assuming this is a typo because both my experience and the ThaSauce page are telling me the deadline is the 5th.

  17. I'll see if I can get something up in the next few days. Kind of a creepy sorta theme with some fun potential for kind of a 90s Pop Techno translation.
