  1. Some of your samples seem a little distracting. The choir patch is good, but the solo violin/viola is really not doing it for me; the attack is unintentionally hilarious. The opening needs some double bass I think, It appears very empty and floating. Maybe some harp for some rhythmic elements. I also recommend adding an additional section or something to give it a little more length, it seems to and a bit abruptly before it can really get fleshed out.
  2. yeah, I remember them bones being in the barrel stage from way back then. I assumed it was licensed, but who knows really.
  3. Synths hurt it, but the arrangement is really good; I think this is going to end up an overlooked gem in a few years, so while it is still on the front page, I encourage people to check it out.
  4. clap clap clap clap clap clap clap too much clapping I think, and the hi hat sound is annoying too. There are some decent B sections that were added, but that percussion is abysmally bad. The drums near the end are changed up a bit, but i'm not sure that many people will make it that far in the mix. Remixer name is still good though, despite the bad mix.
  5. Not really digging this one, though it does get nostalgia points. Seems just a little basic, the drums are a bit too loud so they don't give the mix room to breathe. I'm not sure how a mix can be both boring and annoying, but this one did it. Sorry dudes, this isn't a fav of mine.
  6. Just a ReMix appetizer, the melody is nice, but seriously way too short; there is hardly room for the original, let alone some interpretation.
  7. A bit on the repetative side, but there is a lot of energy here, and the synths are generally pretty good. Having several rotating arpeggios gives a lot of motion, and the semblance of the chord structure really well. The filtered repetition of the melody was really nice as a bridge, It gave a little more life to what was starting to get stale. Copout ending IMO, I would have preferred a ascending run and then the boomy hit rather than just a boomy hit, but whatever. Still a decent remix.
  8. I gotta disagree with KogeJoe, I think that flute solo is hot, and then another banging piano solo? How did I miss this song for so long? The sequencing on this is great, and there are tons of details that really set it apart; compared to a lot of the 2001 OCR releases, the quality of this track is incredible; subtle and expertly panned percussion, well layered backing instruments, and a ton of solo goodness. Some of the samples are weak, such as the harp, but the way they are layered really plays to their strengths. Fantastic work, and a great surprise for the beginning of the week.
  9. Chill yet groovin, this is a good mix, that even though some of the details I disagree with, I very good as a whole. The strong points are the powerful yet subdued groove, and the backing strings and harp. The lead flute is pretty good as well, though a touch of delay would sweeten it a bit I think. The piano is pretty mechanical, especially compared to the fluid harp runs, and is especially exposed during the arpeggios, but who am I to let a little bit of mechanical sequencing get in the way of enjoying a mix? One last nitpick is the intro chiptune could have benefitted from a little processing to round the edges off, so to speak, but I can appreciate the desire to keep it real. Despite a few issues with details on the micro level, this is a really good mix by a very talented remixer and is definitely recommended.
  10. From the opera scene, the focus is on the conflict between Draco and Prince Ralse. Once the lyrics are done, it'll better describe the conflict, but the general theme of each section is 0:01 Intro 0:42 Draco at war 1:33 Prince Ralse sacks Maria's castle 1:58 Draco's Return Journey 2:57 The Duel of Draco and Ralse 3:21 Fight to the death 4:14 *Ending goes here* Original: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tJbKFtFM2_M ReMix: http://oceansend.com/5502/rockp3/ocr/the%20nightmare%20oath.mp3 To do: Fill out some middle sections with percussion; guitar; transitions, etc. Record the fast guitar part at 3:00ish...if I DARE!!! Write the ending Finish lyrcs and record the vocals (the horn parts will be replaced with the vocal lines) Anything else that comes up due to crits
  11. just start working on it, IMO. He left a pretty good start and you can finish it up all nicely.
  12. all worthwhile resources, thanks for the link.
  13. completely painful but amazingly fun. I got pretty far in pacman. The computer is a bastard in footy. :/
  14. Happy birthday! Enjoy your birthday cookies.
  15. ok, contra 4 is 4 players at once WTF why did no one tell me this? This has gone from something I was probably going to get to a must-have title. FF tactics 2 looks pretty nice as well, though I hope the story is more like the original and not FFTA. edit: Looks like OCR got a shoutout in the contra 4 interview in nintendo power. GG OCR.
  16. lolz guys lern2timemanagement. I hope you all have kick ass entries with all this extra time.
  17. Funky and creative sound design, but i'm not really feeling the lead; I think it needs more sustain and a little more beef. The new jack sound clip was a bit strange, unless the clip has a longer history than I know of, since the aim of this song seems to be 70ish retro, not early 90's. The scratching at the end seemed too bassy and a little sloppy, but the thought was there. Decent little mix, on the short side, but it doesn't overstay it's welcome.
  18. z z z the percussion gets nice and layered, and the filtered bass has a nice vibration effect to it, but the repetition kills it.
  19. I have to admit, I was expecting a bit more from a DiscoDan track. It follows the original pretty explicitly, and though it's cool because i haven't heard this song in almost a decade, and it's the game that got me into my lucrative profession (oh yeah, thank you mario paint, i never did thank you), this track does all kinds of dropouts and subtle additons, but it feels like it's just treading water. It's got as good groove, but never really goes anywhere.
  20. the intro does manage to score pretty high on the WTF-o-meter, but like pretty much every has said, it gets better around the 30 second point. I like the high synth lines, the percussion is pretty good, though im not diffing the in game chants. It's cool you were able to use something from the game like that, but it sounds a little too lofi; not your fault I guess. Trance section was nice with the exception of the laser noises. Were those from in game as well? overall it's ok. Pretty creative considering how much source was availible.
  21. Very creative ideas, but it might suffer a bit from too many effects at once in some place. The intro section is the main culprit here, as I was getting some sonic vertigo. It got a lot nicer when it broke down to just beats and chiptunes. I love them chiptunes mmmmm.. except it's just the main melody and no real expansion. From here it goes onto a little theme and variation segment, where some cool ideas finally come out. The ending was way too abrupt as well. Best remix ever? Not quite. Best remixer name ever? Yeah, I think so.
  22. This sounds like it was released in an arcade in the mid 80's, and is the sound test or something. Nothing but the three original tunes back to back with weak ass fades inbetween them. I wouldn't even call this a medly, sorry. It sounds like a triple midi rip. Weak.
  23. I think using more of the voices and mixing them in with the cool chiptunes would have made it better. What is kindof strange to me is that without the voices, I don't think the song would have been very good, but the voices by themselves would be lame as well. I guess what i'm trying to say is that remix isn't just the sum of it's parts, and is good but not great.
  24. The bass drum in the should require a license to use, it's that potent. Sounds awesome! It sucks that this was chopped off for such a long time, after the previous cutoff point is where things started to get really interesting. I suppose when I say interesting, I mean completely nuts. This song has been seriously abused in the processing department, and it doesn't sound like anything else i've heard on the site. There is a lot of off-beat lines tempowise, but it is pretty clearly intentional with all of the other "controlled" chaos smacking song bits around. Very creative, very chaotic, and while not quite dance able, it will make you think.
  25. The beats are pretty sweet, the melody is mysterious, and the samples are well chosen. But the 2 arpeggios are seriously burned into my brain, and not in a good way. Even something as simple as a key change halfway though would double the amount of chords used. In my opinion this mix could have been hella sweet, but it was like buying a super rad, 700 horsepower sportscar that was loaded with extras but somewhere along the line, the engineers only had gears 1 and 2.
