  1. It was so masterfully incorporated i didn't notice it. >_> Actually, when I listen for it, I hear it a lot better. It's very subtle though because there is so much else going on as well. I am a bad friend. ;_;
  2. Pretty decent, that monkey sounds pissed! Not terribly deviant from the original as far as additional sections, but there is a cool shift in tone for the song overall. I like the piano in this, it is very evocative and mysterious. The ending, however is really bad. It gets cut off so abruptly, i thought the mp3 was corrupted.
  3. Pretty mechanical sequencing, but there are enough cool touches to make it stand out as a good mix. Instrumentation-wise it's very nice, with some very creative percussive textures. The brass is mixed pretty quietly, and sounds really good because of it, it sounds like the samples are being fully taken advantage of. So despite the unintentional clockwork sound, this is good stuff.
  4. Samples were a little weak in spots, the opening chord reminded me of the final fantasy mystic quest title screen a bit; not the best sound quality to compare it to, but it picked up. The slapback piano was nice, and the percussion was very good. The solo cello sample by itself wouldn't sound that good, but it mixes very well with the rest of the instrumentation and it's strengths are focused on here. There was way too much reverb at the end chord, and the mix was very underdeveloped, but overall a pretty decent way to spend a minute and a half.
  5. Very nicely done; I agree that it really does feel like you are having a conversation with the music. It's been over a decade since i've played this, so I don't remember the original well enough to talk arrangement, but there are enough mood changes throughout to suggest that this isn't just some PS1 town music. Some of the samples fall a little flat, most notably the solo cello , but ensemblewise, things are nicely blended. Once the soundfield gets full near the middle it sounds very good. The best for last is the final 12 seconds or so. The piano and harp phrase itself is worth the price of admission, and is strong evidence that harp, piano, and heavy rubato have some secret seratonin-boosting effect on me. Absolutely phenomenal. I could seriously listen to the last phrase on loop all day, and an entire mix in this style would be amazing.
  6. I don't remember the original, since all of the kingdom hearts music blended together for me, but this is really nice. I still think the intro and actual song have some visible seams, but you have blended them together a lot better since I last heard this. Drum programming is interesting, those snare rolls in the BG in addition to the kit are a nice touch and make the section they are in. The violin is nice too. SOme of the keyboard leads are a little on the thin side, imo, but nothing dealbreaking. My suggestion at this point is maybe bring a few of the live bass drum hits into the song for a climax point or something; you don't really hear the instrument except for the intro and outro, making it kindof like a sandwich with bass drum instead of bread lolz.
  7. hey guys what is reason is it cool? Actually I might look into this, I just grabbed the 3.0 demo and am going to check it out tonight.
  8. Way too empty, and dare I say ugly and boring as well? The compression here is completely out of control, and with nothing to back it up. There is the gurgle, but no real bass to speak of , and the general silence is not doing it for me at all. Sorry, I don't like this one at all.
  9. A really fun mix that I like, though there is some sort of piercing high frequency percussive hit that hurts if the volume is up too high. Though it has a WTFesque name, it has a lot of cool synths and some fantastically rolling rhythms. I don't necessarily think "cave man" when I hear it, but I do think of light-hearted fun, and that translated well into the Bonk world. Stuff like wandering around, bustin' up stuff with your gianourmous head, eating meat that has been lying on the ground for who knows how long, chillin with the cave ladies; that kind of thing. If Bonk had a low rider, you know he'd be bumpin to this all day long.
  10. A little too generic for my tastes, as it doesn't seem to deviate much from the original in any real way, aside from the rain effects. It is a definite sound upgrade from the SNES chip, but that's basically all it is. Production is pretty good but i think a little more panning and separation would make the whole thing shimmer a bit more.
  11. A little heavy on the blastbeats for me, I think it needs more tempo variation and a shift in tone colors for some sections. When everything is fast and heavy, none of it is. And I think a little more melody would be nice. Production is decent, and I think you captured a good, super-old school death metal vibe, but there's a reason this style of music didn't really get big until the Gothenburg era, and the aforementioned suggestions are all part of that.
  12. can the Finale 2007 trial export as midi? I'm looking for something to do midi on a mac, and spending a few hundred dollars on something that is a basic midi sequencer isn't my style at this point in time.
  13. Are there any details on it like PC/Mac, price, etc.? If it was cheap enough i'd pick it up for a few laughs; though i don't really do a lot of technofied stuff, mostly due to poor samples in that area.
  14. ok, I found a midi of it, and luckily it was the only one sequenced. I would have done it myself, but there isn't an nsf>midi program for the mac that worked; sorry if I sounded like I sounded like a little bitch whith entitlement issues, it's just that this song is one run after another. check it: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/kiwi-g.mid
  15. There are so many notes that it is going to take forever to transcribe this by ear, so i have a request. Is it possible for someone to rip the Kiwi Kraze title screen music from the chiptune file for me please? I can't find anything at zophar's that works with OS 10.3 :/
  16. The mix starts out kindof weak, and just when i was starting to get into it, it just fades out. I'm not a huge fan, sorry.
  17. it's quite possible that COTMM has a serious case of ADD; it seems that none of his mixes end up past the 2 minute point. This mix alllllllmost makes it, but falls just a little short. Maybe next time! The effects on this are very cool and have a grimy industrial feel to them, but honestly, the bubble bobble theme makes me want to asphyxiate (ReMix) myself. The reversed notes and minor key make things better, but still, i'd put the source in my top 10 of worst songs ever.
  18. Very well done orchestral work; especially the huge buildup a the beginning. I'm kindof a Wagner guy, so when I heard that buildup, I was going crazy waiting for the mix to EXPLODE, but it never really happened. It did pick up some energy eventually, but it didn't have the effect I was hoping for. It seems that a lot of mixes that aren't super-over-the-top don't get a lot of comments, regardless of quality, and I think this mix is a victim of that as well. Very nice woodwinds usage here, I think it's a great mix.
  19. A good deal of variation throughout this one, but I don't really like the source. To be fair, Beatdrop made a pretty mundane track into something that really moves, but those skillz can only go so far when the melody is dull. There are some great effects created with the synths, and the triplet breakdown gets my attention everytime.
  20. ok, yeah, this track is really good until the end where suddenly it gets annoying. I think it's that choir patch, honestly. Before that, it's creative and fun, with a good beat and a fun melody. I think Mazedude was just sick of the track and wanted to finish it, thus the lame ending.
  21. This is a really good mix, with a great arrangement. All new textures, some subtly altered rhythms, and some great breakdowns, this really deserves some more love. The oscilating synths in this are really sweet, and probably my favorite part; there are probably three seperate ones scattered throughout the soundscape and they fade in and out, and pan around, keeping things in constant motion. Combined with the groovetacular bass and some guitarish chords, you have a foundation for success. One nitpick is that i'm not really feeling the panned drumset; I think it should have been spread out across the field a bit more instead of one side. Definitely recommended.
  22. Well this contains the most evil sounding harpsichord i've ever heard. There was a ton of dissonance between the backing parts and the lead, but that's par for the course when it comes to cotmm, so I assume it was intentional. The textures throughout were cool, but besides dirging through the melody once, there isn't a whole lot to the mix. I think doubling the length by adding an additional part would have made me like this more; right now it just seems like a preview. Still very interesting, however.
