  1. Something this subtle is easy to overlook, but it really shouldn't be. Awesome panning and atmosphere throughout, and very tasteful synths, my favorite being the panning bells and the soaring strings. You won't often hear me say this, but I think the fadeout ending for this works well, though the fade was a bit abrupt, and should have been drawn out a bit longer. The groove is strong with this one. Check it out.
  2. Very nice synthwork, and the brass is good, though i think that it could have had a little more variation. The only times the brass plays, it is the single melody line. I think slightly changing a few notes after a few repetitions would have made it a little more inspired, but even so, it's a good mix that shuffles along pretty well.
  3. Overall very well done, with some very nice ideas, I especially like how you kept hinting harmonically at some of the original, and then going in a different direction, it really kept surprising me,and in a good way. Some of the samples seemed too exposed, mostly the solo instruments, and though the piano was a bit rigid, it didn't detract in any way to me. Very nice work.
  4. That's cool and all, but for a guy like me who has a lot going on sometimes, levelling fast is just fine, since it all evens out in the end. Takes me forever to level, but it;s because I can only rock out a bit at a time.
  5. Good point, I wasn't trying to offend, just compare it to some of his other work. McVaffe kicks ass, so he has set his own standards pretty high, and as such, I didn't feel like this had the same attention paid to it as some of his other early mixes. Perhaps "super early WIP" is a bit terse on my part, but it does sound like something is distinctly missing.
  6. this is a decent mix, but really the power tool section made it stand out a lot more than it otherwise would have, and I think that more of that throughout the song would have improved it. A few transitions could have been a little stronger with the use of better fills, but overall the flow was good. Synths were a bit default sounding, but they were balanced well and didn't detract. Regardless, the more power tools, the better.
  7. The drums on this are awesome at the beginning, and though it's a very liberal arrangement, the quality is there. Personally, i'd say it's a little too liberal, as I can't discern much of the source at all, but the entire mix has the proper castlevania mood. Not really a hard enough beat for me to really rock out to, but some decent listening.
  8. "Green ReMix needs melody badly!" So I am traveling through this dungeon with my homies Green ReMix, Yellow Phat beatz, and some other dude, I forget who; who cares anyways? Anyways, we are running around bustin stuff up and all of a sudden, we see some scrumptious melody right behind a ghost generator and a bunch of ghosts. Being the total dick that he is, Yellow Phat beatz totally caps the melody! "Yellow Phat beatz has shot the melody!" Seriously, who does he think he is? We can't finish the dungeon with just Phat beatz alone, we need to work as a team. It's not to the point where "Green ReMix is about to die", but some extra melody wouldn't hurt. Yellow Phat beatz just needs to chill, imo.
  9. A little too repetitive for me, but some cool ideas. The ending is a lot better than the beginning, but still it seems to keep repeating. Needs more soloing I think, and a sound upgrade. Some definite cool ideas, but it needs a little more polish.
  10. sounds like a super early WIP to me; not really what i'd expect for McV.
  11. Great intro! It's very moody and sounds like something out of a movie, just needs a voiceover. The beats come in and they are alright, but it really needs a stronger kick to have forward movement, especially since there isnt really a melodic hook.
  12. Though the sounds need a slight sample upgrade, and it doesn't seem to stray far from the original, it's an enjoyable mix with a very nice melody, and a good feel as well.
  13. Kindof bland, imo. It didnt really catch my attention. The sounds seemed to be all pretty midrange and the beat seemed to be a basic on the floor throwdown. The piano at the beginning is almost as rigid as the stuff I do, and no one wins when that happens, trust me. Sorry, just not my style I guess.
  14. well, the genre of music isn't trance, but the effect the song has on me pretty accurately describes what this mix does to me. I felt myself dozing off a little while listening; not because the track is boring, but it is seemingly specially formulated to but you in a trance-like state, and I bet somewhere in there is a hidden message to do something nefarious, like steal people's gas caps or not replace the water cooler in the break room if you have the lsat of the water. Jaxx, i'm onto you...
  15. One of my favorite original source songs from a fantastic soundtrack, this mix is pretty well done, with a good deal of interpretation. The percussion is probably my favorite part of this one, with some nice rolls an some beautiful chimes. The ending is a point of contention, as it just seems to run out of gas..not a good thing to do when you are a flight theme. You'd want a nice safe landing i'd think. Still good enough to have had a home on my playlist for several years now.
  16. sweet as hell feel to this song, but it doesn't ever get kicked up to the level I expected it to. Maybe unreasonable expectations on my part, but I kept waiting for some sort of chorus or something with some harder hitting drums and it never came. Really cool synth sounds throughout, and though It never get's kicked up a notch BAM, it's pretty good.
  17. I am using mine as therapy for deeply seeded childhood trauma where these punk ass bitches gave me nightmares. WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, EGGPLANT?! WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!?
  18. Funky and with a strong 80's vibe. The orchestra stabs are pretty rofltastic, it makes me think of Dave Chappele wandering through a club and seeing that dude that was always doing the robot. This is off the scale on the cheese-o-meter but I can't help but like it, just needed to be longer, with a spot for some breaks. This is what the Ninja Gaiden cutscene would look like: *pan over a decaying city street, rife with thugs* *side view of Ryu with speed lines* Ryu: I will avenge my father!!! *cut to tough looking boss thug* Boss: I will stop you right here!!! *cut to shot of thugs holding bats and chains* *cut to cardboard on the ground* Boss: Your journey ends here!!! *cut to ryu's eye* Ryu: Let's get funky! *Bboy battle* *fade to black*
  19. Very well done. This and the Punk remix are the clear winners of the group. It's way too short though, and needs some extra interpretation, but a beautiful start. 2 minutes well spent.
  20. Definitly starts out not my type of music, but it is very well done regardless of how I feel about the "genre" of ambient noise. Once the 30 minute intro is over, it distinctly picks up, and the guitar is nice, especially the backing chords. Overall theres a bit too much static, and the lead tone on the guitar is a bit too bright, but it's a good mix. Nice work guy would be proud.
  21. Piano was a bit too dry for my taste, and could have used a lot more humanization, since it sounded like each note was being hammered out. The sax was also a bit too dry, but the arrangement itself was very creative and there were some nice solos.
  22. This one happily bounces on and becomes somewhat forgettable until the modulation, and that's where it gets interesting. I wish that section had gone on longer, but these things happen. I'd say that the frogger theme sounds much better in a minor key, and expanding on that would have made the mix way cooler.
  23. Pretty cool and energetic track, though it seems a little vanilla with the exception of the added drums and such. Synths are decent overall, and get the job done, though the lead synth seems to be a touch too loud and "out there". I remember seeing screen shots of this game like 300 years ago in an issue of Nintendo Power and wanting to play it, but Sunsoft always seemed to have distribution issues back then, and to this day i've never played the game. Maybe someday.
  24. I am getting pounded by the high end here, but I do like the melody and the beat, and especially the ending. Really a toss up whether my head can take all the high end before it explodes. It could use a little more reinterpretation to have it stand out, and The levels overall should be looked at. An old school mix that is pretty good, but not great.
  25. At first I was listening to this and thought the song ended, and a new one started, pretty distracting really. Arrangementwise, there are a lot of great ideas presented, but the sound quality throughout brings it down. The lead synth is nice, but a lot of the other instruments lack depth.
