  1. Congrats to the both of them and best wishes for a wonderful marriage. I also wish we could see more of him, as his remixes are some of my personal favorites.

  3. I don't remember how I got started watching this guy, but I haven't stopped watching him since. I love his style of reviewing, and he is really hilarious. I especially like his coverage of old FMV games, and the like. Best moment though, was his review of Hell's Kitchen: The Game. I still can't help but laugh loudly at the part when he takes a huge bite of the pepper and his face just completely falls from smiling to disgust and shock. And Brushfire, he actually made a finale for FF8, you should go check it out.

  5. I just didn't like the game play. It wasn't even that it was different than the first. Something about the way it was put together never really meshed with me and I had to beat many years later on the GBA.
  6. I always took the game personally when it gave me a challenge I couldn't overcome. A lot of that has changed, and I don't think that most games nowadays give you that sense of being so overwhelmingly frustrating, at least not for the right reasons. Old school games were enjoyable because you knew if you just tried a little longer, or thought a little more cleverly, you'd get through it. Not so much now, what with hints, tutorials, gaming guides, and the internet. The games that end up frustrating are only that way because they play badly, not because they were made to be a challenge in that sense. I think what I miss most is the sense of exploration. It was so much cooler finding stuff no one had seen before, or that you would not have guessed was there. Zelda, Mario, Metroid. Those were all games where you had to write stuff down or memorize patterns. They gave you a map when you bought the Legend of Zelda on NES, but it was up to you to fill out where stuff was. God help you if you forgot where essential stuff was either. I must have played for days trying to remember how to get the white sword. I'm sure there are still people out there today who have their old hand drawn maps for Metroid.
  7. Hey, I also want to put up Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for original Xbox if anyone has an interest. I'm not sure what to put the price at right now, because it is just the game, no manual (unless you want the manual for the ps2 original which I, for no reason I can remember, have as well.)   8. I haven't watched CN since forever ago either. I do remember when Toonami used to show stuff like Kenshin and DBZ though, and it was one of my first exposures to anime as a teenager. Back when anime wasn't a huge presence in our culture, it was an amazing move, and I never understood why they canceled it. I kind of agree though that some of the older cartoons just had better quality overall in terms of substance than the newer ones. I still love the old Batman animated series, Freakazoid is still hilarious, and Ren and Stimpy continues to be one of the most confusing but ultimately awesome shows for bizzare humor. I don't really watch much in terms of cartoons anymore, but I feel like CN changing their style just to rake in some cash is kind of a stupid move. I saw the previews for the "real" shows, and all I could think was "Wow, they're trying to emulate old 90's Nickelodeon." It sounds to me like they've lost sight of the original idea of Cartoon Network, which was to provide a cool place for kids to get their cartoon fix while also getting exposed to the best of the older generations too. I guess I'm kind of glad I don't watch that channel anymore, because I liked it back when you could still catch really old stuff like Loony Toons, and some of Tex Avery's wacky stuff. It'll be a damn shame if CN turns into another Nickelodeon.

  13. Well, right off the bat I want to thank everyone that was there for the earlier part of the meetup. You guys were awesomely accommodating of my large and somewhat rowdy group, and I appreciate that immensely. They really had a lot of fun too, and I might even have made some converts. Also thank you to Bustatunez for helping me to get my shit organized so that we all could have a good time. It was a lot of fun, and I'm sorry I missed out on the other half of the day. No, I just decided to bring a gang of people on a whim so we can terrorize the meetup with no prior warning just to personally bother you. /sarcasm Seriously, it's not that big a deal and he already said as much. I let him know that I didn't have plans to stick around all day anyways. My plans changed and I've had to adjust them accordingly.
  15. I don't know. It's just the way things worked out. I figured on maybe just stopping by to say hey. I'm still working out the exact details, but the gist is that we won't be group-crashing the meetup proper. Next time it'll just be me and there won't be all these weird issues.
  16. I'm also in, but I'm not going to be able to stay for the whole thing. I'm coming down with a small group of my friends, and we'll be down for lucasarts/lunch, but probably wander off to do our own thing afterwards. Kind of the price of transportation if you will. Anyways, can't wait to actually get down there, I'm looking forward to it.
  17. I don't know how I feel about this one. PH was really forgettable for me, because I played it through once, and it just seemed to end and that was it. I haven't ever had an interest in dusting it off and playing it again. I liked the boat, both because it was upgradable and because I never minded sailing places even in Wind Waker. But I didn't like that the story only picked up once or twice and then ended. The ending was good, the rest not so much. And now we're going to be on a train instead of a boat, and I'm not really seeing how that's not a gimmick. Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda games to death and will probably buy and play the crap out of it when it comes out. But I'd like to play a Zelda game that didn't rely on putting in one or two gimmicks just to sell. Twilight Princess was pretty good for that. It gave me the adventure, let me roam around, and still retain it's Zelda type qualities. The newer handheld games just get a little to lost in making for a "fun time" and I think they tend to suffer for it. Even Minish Cap had those rock things, that while fun, could get rather tedious after awhile because you couldn't find the right damn piece.
  18. Well, checking Amtrak I can get there and back for about 50 bucks, which rocks. Even so, I'm still tenative, since I've got some personal issues that have come up. Put me down as a maybe still, and I'll get back to you with more details.
  19. I don't even know where to start on breaking game commandments. I'll try to summarize the best ones 1. I'll admit that I've rarely used cheat codes before beating the game. There were a couple games, like Ages of Empires 2, where I couldn't resist myself though. Free resources beats the hell out of having to sit and mine them for an hour. 2. Actually, I've never used a walkthrough unless I was inescapably stuck. Some of the older generation games have moments where they leave you hanging, and Majora's Mask especially was notorious for those. 4. Used to do that all the time to my friends when they walked out, and then I'd try to get them back into the same spot and pause it where they were so they wouldn't notice. As an extension of that, there were a lot of FPS games where I'd unpause the game and then try to find where they were hiding. Goldeneye was great, because you could throw a bunch of remote mines around them and kill them as soon as they got back and unpaused. 6. I don't think anyone is not guilty of this at some point in their gaming careers. For some reason or another, you'll walk away from a game and not pick it up for years, or your save data will get corrupted, or you'll lose your memory card. All those have happened to me, and there are a couple games I still haven't finished. One particular instance was Illusion of Gaia. I didn't pick that game up and finish it for ten years because I rented it back for the SNES and never saw it again until it was on an emulator. 7. If tossing a GBA counts, I'm guilty of at least three counts of this. A PS2 controller was sacrificed for the third one. Stupid Soul Calibur... 8. I can't keep my mouth shut. It's just so damned painful to watch people struggle with the most foolishly easy puzzles. Things that we as veteran gamers take for granted as being natural gameplay, other people seem to require massive amounts of concentration to apply for five minutes. Isn't it obvious the box goes on the switch? Why do you not see the door you've passed five times and never gone in? If someone's playing a game, I usually go and find something that will absorb my attention so I can't point out their horrible flaws to them
  20. Disco Dan's "Braving Tal Tal Heights" I don't like the compression on this one, but I think I got the point across without losing too much of the detail. Anyone know a better way to take this: and take it to 100x100 without losing the clarity? The keyboard/synth player is a sly reference to Dan himself (I only know what he looks like from a picture I found on the forums). Next song up is another Wingless tune: Eutopia Pegasi.
  21. It shouldn't be too hard to guess what my steam name is at this point, but for posterity it's Dark Link. Honestly, I've only been on the server for a few weeks, so a reset doesn't affect me too badly. I'm cool either way.
  22. I played it when they had the really good deal on Steam where it was a dollar. It was kind of a headache, because I was also playing HL2 at the time and there just wasn't a comparison. Everything is so crisp and neat in 2, and in one I kept constantly shaking my head and wondering what I was looking at. Kind of wish they'd have brought back the underwater monsters though, those were fun and scary.
