  1. Yeah, shrink down the eyes and it'd look like like a real guy, hair and everything. That's seriously some crazy stuff right there.
  2. It takes all kinds I guess. Some people have to have the opposite opinion in relation to the millions of people that like brawl and thought "No More heroes" wasn't as good as it could have been. Still, way too cocky about his opinion given that he didn't even stay in depth about Brawl at all. Maybe he should try writing a real article next time.
  3. Amazingly, I lucked out when I went to the midnight release of Brawl at the local Gamestop. A guy there that I was talking to told me about the Target near it that had four of them in stock that very night. So I went to a friend's house, played brawl all night, and then got to Target at 8 in the morning and bought one. On the subject of scalping though, it's a load of crap. Justify it how you like, you're still ripping off the average Joe (like me) who wants to get one hassle free. Instead I go on amazon to see what they might have and my eyeballs nearly popped out of my head. 350+ for a system that will cost you that once you've at least gotten a game and an extra controller. That's not a deal folks, it's a scam. If anything, I'd expect at this point people would be taking pity on us poor folk that waited a year to buy the system. (And I do not believe the crap about Nintendo not matching production demands. It's been a year and a half, ample time to figure out the demand levels. Unavailability makes the item more desirable, and clearly the strategy is still working.) It's not just stupid people you're making money off of anymore, it's the desperate and the hard lucked and that's just wrong.
  4. #1 isn't too hard if you've ever really played Nintendo games. Give you a hint, one of the regular posters here features the character from this game taking a walk in his sig. PM me if you still don't get it. #43 is also one that I know very well, and you should too if you keep up with recently remixed music. Well, relatively recently remixed music... And interestingly enough, #47 is a game that I know as well, and I feel like everyone should give a try once in their lives. A hint is that it was a popular cartoon back in the early 90's. Again, PM me if they drive you utterly mad.
  5. Wait, you mean you played #47 then? Wow, not too many people have played that one as far as I'm aware. While Disney, that game was actually pretty solid and I still enjoy it. EDIT Apparently 31 is also the same game, just for a different system. Never played that one though.
  6. I got it no problems at all, now if only getting a Wii were so simple. If I get one in the morning, I WILL run around the store screaming like I just won the lottery. On a different note, I was at one of the local release parties at Gamestop, a friend of mine (the only guy I knew there) won the tourney they had. It played so great, the only thing that sucked is we had to do Wiimote controls. Look forward to seeing you guys online by the end of the month.
  7. Once I get a Wii, I know I will be. Can't wait to play against some of you guys and see how badly my skills have rusted since my melee days.
  8. The last thing I read was a bunch of Romantic era poetry. We're talking the staples: Wordsworth, Byron, Shelley. Overall, not my thing. There are a couple of good insights, but I think from now on I'm sticking with slightly more modern works. Other than that, sadly, haven't read much in the way of new stuff. I think the last new book I read was Stephen King's Hearts in Atlantis. Was pretty good, even though it had the mandatory Dark Tower tie-in. Sort of become his MO I guess. And before that it was Scott Adams' book The Dilbert Future: Thriving on Stupidity in the 21st Century which is a surprisingly thought provoking book when you read between the humor. The man is pretty damn genius.
  9. Well, the problem that I have with it (and this is mostly because I've been playing Professor Layton recently), is that there's no setup. All you gave us is a series of pictures in a seemingly random order and told us to interpret. The first thing a person is going to do is look at what all of the images literally represent. Then, they will try to find meaningful relationships between sets (rows, columns, pairs) based on those literal interpretations. An example of that would be the picture of the hard drive next to The Flash, which made me think flash drive. So that's what I've been sitting here doing every time I look at it. Even with the hints, I'm vaguely perplexed because every single picture can be interpreted symbolically a lot of ways. For instance, the pirate flag could mean pirate, death, skull, skeleton, etc. You need maybe to give an example set, or a smaller number of pictures, or just some clear instructions on how the whole thing works before showing the puzzle. As it stands, I don't think I'll ever really figure this thing out based on what I've got to go on because I'm overwhelmed not only by the number of pictures, but their potential meanings. And even if I were given every pictures meaning and told to figure out what they add up to, I likely still wouldn't be able to do it. To much data, too many possibilities. I love mind puzzles, which is why I picked up Professor Layton, Picross, and other games of that variety. Nothing is cooler than the sense of accomplishment you get from solving a challenging brain bender. The trick with a good puzzle though is that it gives you the first push. Sometimes that push can be misleading on purpose, but ultimately, the answer will always be obtainable. Like a good game of charades though, you have to be able to represent the words you want out of the player through round about means that they can understand. The difference here is like trying to show me an action for grass by sticking your arms in the air and swaying back and forth. Either way, I'm going to stare at you and go "what?" EDIT: Okay, that was a little harsh. Let me put it this way. Great effort, I'm glad that you put this out there. But it needs to be refined in a manner that will let people get a grasp on it before they go full tilt in.
  10. Well, what are the rules, what's the whole deal? I don't get it. Are we supposed to just identify what the pictures are, or their relationship?
  11. Well, I tried it, but I downloaded five songs and recognised none of them... Although, I'm kind of curious as to what #28672 is, because I downloaded it, but skipped it later and suddenly couldn't go back...
  12. Hey, I was thinking. If we did an odd number instead of an even in terms of voting, would that help prevent having a double tie again? Haven't done the math or anything, but I was thinking it might help. Anyways, I'll start cooking up a story as soon as I finish this stupid essay.
  13. Wow, I've owned a lot of crap games, but I sold many of them so it's hard to remember what they were. Here's what stands out in my mind though: Soul Calibur 3: I actually enjoyed this game up until I realized that Game Informer wasn't bullshitting me about how the extra single player was crap. But the more I played it, the more I discovered how much the people at Namco hates everyone that plays their games. I have never played cheaper A.I. than that game. EVER. Sold it to a friend who likes fighter games for 30, which was enough to replace the controller I BLEW UP because I was so angry. I loved SC 2, which made this insult even worse. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time: People rave and rave about this game and it's predecessor, Superstar Saga. Truth is though, I only marginally enjoyed SS, because it had a cool RPG take, and reasonable story. Kind of funny in places, but not as hilarious as it was made out to be. The graphics were absolute butt though, which puzzled me greatly. But it was a GBA game, so I had forgiveness. Partners, however, took all of the cool things from SS, and puked on them. Trite story, no replay-ability at all, the graphics still were shockingly crappy, and the highly toted humor made me chuckle maybe twice. I love slapstick a lot, but it's hard to laugh when it all looks so dang horrid. I think I sold this one to a friend too. Final Fantasy 3: I picked this up for the DS, because it's one of the few FFs I hadn't played. It was pretty entertaining for a while, but the endgame quickly deteriorates into enemies that can kill you in one hit, even if your at level 70 (which made the necessary grinding feel useless), stupidly long sequences of boss fights, followed by palate swapped bosses-as-creatures that are just as hard as the originals, and then a final boss which can use one hit K.O.s on you for the hell of it. (Although the part where you die and are brought back was clever. Fooled me into turning off the DS in frustration the first time.) The extras they added to the game beyond updated visuals and little FMV sequence at the beginning, were solely wifi based, something I did not approve of given I was sitting on a train while playing it. Sold it and got Professor Layton. The Lost Vikings 2: The first one rocked. The second one...not so much. Things just got too weird for me to really stick with the game. Got sold by my mom with my SNES, wasn't sad about that one. Yoshi's Story: Two words: mindless gaming. Sadly, it's still sitting with my other 64 games. I am not proud. There was this one Madden game for the 64, don't recall which. I owned it for about two months. The game was so bad, that we would just sit and laugh at the horrendous visuals and the fact that we could one run play every time, which would always lead to a touchdown. The funniest part about the game was when the QB would pivot to throw or hand off, because he always floated about a foot from where the ground was supposed to be. One of those "you had to be there" things, I guess. Gave it to my friend, because it wasn't worth selling. And the ultimate game of shame: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone GBA. Yes, I bought it with my own money. Yes, I played it and beat it. No, don't even ask.
  14. I got 13 (26%), but I feel that I should have known 6,32,43, and 49. 3,7,8,9,10,17,23,24,35,39,45,47,48 7-10 were ridiculously easy for me, but two of those I know like the back of my hand. 24 was a pleasant surprise though. To Coop: I know what 47 is. I used to play it all the time as a kid. I can't believe you stalled on 3 though. At this point, you don't even have to have played the original game to know it (although I did).
  15. Totally quoted, I laughed my ass off. *thumbs up*
  16. That was pretty damn funny. I liked when Raven just flat out says "cryptic metaphor". Also, anyone find the easter egg yet? Very odd...
  17. Gone Baby Gone (which came out on DVD recently). Guaranteed to make you go WTF? and also guaranteed to leave you thinking at the end, one way or another.
  18. OMFG!!!!11!!1 Sorry, had to do it. This is one of my all time favorite video game songs, and you guys did it beautifully. I had to listen to it several times before I could get past the fanboy rush of how awesome it was to hear a version of this done in sax and piano. Alright, so you wanted actual feedback, so let's see what I can throw at you. First off, I don't know that cymbals would be appropriate. I can see where that's coming from, and I guess I'd have to hear it done before I could really second that notion. But hey, it's always worth a shot. Another thing that I noticed is that it's not too long, but I felt like the piano needed to pick up earlier in the song. I didn't really pay attention to the piano part until the last minute or so. The piano didn't carry it's own for me until as late as :42 and especially at around :30. The reason for that is because my ear is naturally listening to the sax first. Obviously, in the beginning, the piano is serving more as a background measure, but I felt like I wanted to hear the piano get it's turn in the spotlight before the song came into the end. On the flip side of that though, make sure that it doesn't become overpowering. You did a pretty good job of balancing though, so it doesn't seem like too big an issue for you guys. By the way, beautiful sax playing Prophet. I am beyond wowed. It's an awesome combination of both of your skills, and I hope that this either becomes a remix or that you work on it more until it can be.
  19. Okay 1. You're extreme fanboyism about this game is really off putting. If people want to write it off, let them. You're not going to prove how awesome it is by telling everyone that doesn't agree with you about how awesome it is. 2. That being said, I have to say that is certainly not the best Mario hack I've ever played. That's not to say that I've played a lot of them, but IMHO, this isn't the top tier I was thinking it was going to be. Here's why: -The levels vary wildly from moderate length to "OMG when is this going to end already?!" The longer the level, the less like Mario it starts to feel. Some of the levels got to feeling more like a chore. Especially when the midpoint is stuck at some awkward long length away. -Also about the levels, some were really easy, others were kinda of crazy. I mean, I wasn't seriously sitting down to beat it (and you can't, but we'll get there in a minute.) but I kept repeatedly getting my ass kicked on some of them since I managed to get there without a power up (see: parts of Bubbleman's level). A good Mario level you can beat even if you're tiny. That part with the frogs and the spikes underwater...yeah, didn't even bother after the fifth time I died. -This is a beta. I'll give it that, but there are some seriously broken aspects which killed game play for me. The springs were hit or miss at best, the underwater swimming felt like moving through lead. I don't remember how SMW did it, but this is no SMW and it's obvious. You move too slowly and there's no way to speed it up or to control how high you swim up either. It's all a guess. The mushroom houses are accessible but really broken (see: laughing my ass off though at how you fall through the floor.) -the music is not customizable. I tried every variation I could think of in renaming them, to no avail. The game was silent every time I ran it. -The guns, while nifty, seem kind of gimmicky. The reason I say this is two fold. The first is that they really don't last that long. You pick a weapon to use at one given point, but it won't last you very long into the rest of the level. Secondly, they are way over sized. I would have greatly appreciated seeing them sized to the character as Mario with the rifle looks ridiculous. -Same goes for nearly all of the crossover characters. Some of them are just way too big for the game size. -I'd like to see a better control layout, or a customizable one. Jamming my fingers into a corner sucked. Especially when I'm going for a jump and I end up releasing the stupid power-up. In conclusion: It's a beta, I understand this. But I have to agree with some of the sentiments expressed that this is not the best I've ever seen. And, on top of that, I happen to agree with Gollgagh on this one, there feel like way too many styles going on. I was in Doom, then I'm jumping on DK enemies, then I'm blasting Covenant. Cool, thumbs up for the effort, but I feel like it should either be focused or refined. (On more thing though: I really liked the backgrounds. Extremely well done on those.)
  20. I played through Mario 64 for 8 hours straight, taking only one break to pee and eat a piece of watermelon. Got all 120 stars though. Wrote a fan fiction for Legend of Zelda (it was okay, but not great) Bought a PS2 exclusively to play Kingdom hearts 2. That same day, I came within an inch of punching the guy behind the Gamestop counter in the face because he told me I'd have to wait two more days to get the game. After I told him he was full of shit in so many colorful words, he looked again and "found" a copy. Threw my GBA across the room when one of my characters died in Fire Emblem after spending three hours leveling everyone else. Fortunately, the only thing that got broken was the battery panel. And I fixed that with tape.
  21. I don't mean this as an insult or anything, but this is totally something I could hear playing in an elevator somewhere. Really a mellow song, but I like it. The fake harmonicas don't hurt it too badly, but the ending I thought was a little weird with the vibrated strings, because I generally associate that sound with a build up instead of a fade out. But that's a small nitpick to an otherwise great song. Good job Kaijin.
  22. If you can guess my handle... well it's actually not that hard. >_>
  23. Wow, I was just sitting back watching the madness unfold, but this guy's a little too cocky even for my tastes. We need to take this guy down a peg.
  24. I want you to build me a computer, only I have no money right with which I can pay you. So when I do, you're the first person I'll call.
  25. Well, I don't know if it's the PS2, or the disc but every time I try to go to Hollow Bastion, the game stays in the black screen between the over world and the level, playing the over world music. The PS2 then begins to make reading sounds, and continues to try this for as long as I leave it go (I left it for about ten minutes, no cigar). The CD itself isn't scratched more than any other used disc might be. A few very minor scratches, but nothing close to a game destroying scratch. I sprayed out the PS2, wiped the disc briefly (no water or anything), and tried blowing on it too. Curiously, I'm able to go anywhere else on my other file (full access to everywhere), but even on that one, once I try Hollow Bastion, same result. So, anyone got an opinion on the problem, how it might be fixed, or should I just go get a new disc? (it would be my third, never lend out to brothers of girlfriends...)
