  1. Great jazz, cool rapping. I like how the chord change / dissonance thing at 1:03 etc has a huge, huge pull begging towards resolving. I think the harmony is a bit different from the source? In a way that emphasizes the pull even more. I don't think there's really a conflict between rapping and jazz here, but it's more of a case of having a long stretch of instrumental sections and then just a couple of verses at the end (not the only OCR with vocals that does this). The spoken word bit at the beginning helps a bit by foreshadowing it, but I still feel the balance is off structurally. Regardless, a mighty fine arrangement of the source, it's genuinely funny (I find the mild crassness amusing for the source material too) and arrangement fits the music and the game very well.
  2. FWIW Fire Pro Wrestling World seems to now have the functionality and the mod tools to do this, judging from a distance: https://retronauts.com/article/504/fire-pros-journey-through-early-access-continues-with-new-update A mod with the characters as wrestlers + the tunes as the intro music for them, you guys should have that as part of the release.
  3. I thought the piece worked very well, and the source (and its treatment here) is a particularly good fit for the genre. Good job!
  4. Well I thought this was great! Nice sounding tight rock arrangement, and a very fun and bright tune! I'm enjoying the mood of the track right now so much. Thanks!
  5. Love the game. Some of the tracks are very nice on the OST, I'm not always a fan of mr. Hakulinen's harmonic writing but there's a lot of cool ideas and moods. I've been thinking of doing something with 'Progress', it has a cool shift in the rhythm. Here's a link to the OST:
  6. Still looking forward to this album. (insert joke about the album being slow to arrive, you know, racing games and all)
  7. I truly appreciate the freshness of the arrangement approach to the source tune. It's fun to hear it interpreted in a pretty new way. HL's arrangements always so well considered, each line sounds like it has given a lot of consideration individually, but also how they work together. I need to make some notes.. Finally I'm reminded, by the tones of the chip leads and also the richness of the part-writing, two great retro-style soundtracks: VVVVVV and Shovel Knight, which I also appreciate!
  8. Gorgeous work, an obviously loving tribute. It goes by like a moment.. I too am listening to it many times in a row.
  9. This is an enjoyable take on the source material. It is rocking and energetic, but at the same time it has this nice floaty, even gentle quality. I did like how the outro emphasized that 'gentle' aspect of the track. Nice work on changing the timpani to guitar as well!
  10. This was a fun arrangement to hear as a huge fan of FF4 and its soundtrack, a really cool variation on the original. It made me smile. The pacing was fairly deliberate, especially the chiptune sounds kept a fairly even energy level throughout. I can see where the comments about perhaps being a bit too steady come from, but I enjoyed the approach overall. I thought it never going absolutely crazy was a valid way and made for a particular listening experience.
  11. I'm reading up on Fire Pro Wrestling World.. when this is out, someone needs to mod in the Castlevania characters with the tunes from this as the intro tracks.
  12. Really cool track! There's indeed a lot of mileage wrung out of the sources, and it goes by pretty fast, you just want to listen to it again. I absolutely love the fiddle, but there's cool trading licks between the sax as well, sweet usage of the skids sfx, cool Seeeegaaaa at the start.. what a great way to open up the album, and the track stand on its own as well!
  13. I liked the scale here, taking its time before the vocals hit, the lush soundscape and the kind of maximalist arrangement and all. I thought there might have been some off notes that didn't feel good to my ears, but I'll need to get a better listen and timestamp them and so to be sure. I thought the style went well with Katamari for sure. Lyrics are fun and they look kind of unsingable, but flow really well. 3:50-> there's the Katamari On the Rocks theme in major mode over minor mode backing (or something to that effect), which does sound icky to me. 0:41-> the transition from the intro to guitar strumming, the intro seems to be in minor mode and the next part in major mode - this is fine, but the problem to me is that the minor mode "tails" into the major mode (like reverb or sustained notes) and creates a conflict. I think I'll give this a few more listens with proper headphones.
  14. For sure I'd like to get one of these. Star Fox 2 (and officially re-released Yoshi's Island, and Star Fox 1 actually) are really nice to see. It sounds like it's going to be a limited run though, so I doubt I'll have the opportunity to own one, just like with the NES Classic.
  15. I love it when people do ambient arrangements, and this is a good one. The usage of the source is lovely, it's beautiful and the whole track has this warmth, both aurally and emotionally. Also I appreciate the background given by the artist. Good stuff! More!
  16. submitted this version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/banytvsk34oh6a7/eino_keskitalo-OneMustFall2064-20200516-fc2.mp3?dl=0 -- old wip: https://www.dropbox.com/s/us3m4b7ph6wqd1w/OneMustFall2064-20180418.mp3?dl=0 --- Fairly straightforward version of the OMF2097 title theme. The name (wip?) comes from the fact that this uses some C64 samples, though it doesn't sound that Commodore 64 in the end. Made during the free round of People's Remixing Compo in December. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xrv3ledpslcmwi0/eino_keskitalo-OneMustFall2064-20170617-wip.mp3?dl=0 Not intending to do a ton of more work on the track, but probably the bass mixing needs a good pass, and the very quiet pad might have some harmony issues with long release tails. If you have any feedback, please let me know! Intending to submit soon-ish. Source:
  17. The combination of the chip arps, tastefully reverbed simple organ and such a bouncy swing in a Castlevania rearrangement is a distinct combination. Fun stuff!
  18. I just got that video as a recommendation on Youtube and like and subscribe it is. And I guess I'll cross out "non-functional" from my vocabulary when saying "this isn't working" when it comes to music..
  19. Sent an update I actually did in February.. guess I'd better just start wrapping up!
  20. Very enjoyable longform symphonic rock track, good performances to add some extra life into it. There's a small harmonic wart with the organ at 1:47 when transitioning between parts. That's about the only thing I personally object with the track, I see a bunch of production crits but my ears were not bothered by the production. I like the variety of the instrumentation and keeping everything fresh for the whole duration is an cool achievement. It really sounds quite effortless actually. The track also has a very strong sense of forwards drive, which is nice, it constantly feels like it's going somewhere. It's also interesting that the parts do not differ greatly from another, and since everything else is clicking, this emphasizes the sense of forward momentum.
  21. Woooooow. This was brilliant. Amy has come a long way and this is just a beautiful, beautiful, impactful song. Very well arranged, no unnecessary element in sight. I think I owe it to myself to finally check out departure.
  22. Really loved this one, from concept to execution. Maaan, I feel like firing up the original SNES port for nostalgia AND to check out the speed of action.. I think the reinterpretation here to the new groove is very cool and more than sufficient from what I expect from an OC ReMix.. there would have been some "design space" for more variation in textures / instrumental palette / density of the arrangement - everything is pretty much playing all the time throughout as far as "thickness" of the arrangement is considered, a section in the middle where the soundscape wasn't quite as filled out could've made the arrangement "breathe" a bit more, but I'm not really complaining, it's goooood. Reminds me a bit of YMO's version of Firecracker, probably a lot because of the pentatonic scale but also tempo and some of the instrumentation. Cool debut!
  23. Very Mega Drive-y sound overall. I love the opening riff sound. Tasty, knotty progression. Very dense. Unapologetic about what sort of a piece it is. This is all delightful.
  24. I'll add to the pile: I've started all of PS1-4 and played each of them quite far, but I haven't finished any of them. (I *did* finish PS Gaiden, which is far worse than any of the mainline games though, but I played that on the go - plus it's quite easy).
  25. Oh, that quadrilogy idea sounds cool. Dibs on "Bracky News" from Phantasy Star 2!
