OCR02255 - Sunset Riders "Bleeding Guns"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The intro definitely had me feeling some 80s music . Track is filled with lots of great little moments, including when the synth comes in around 1:15. I agree with Rexy about the synth guitars - I've never been a huge fan of them, but what you did with them in this ReMix was just amazing, excellent work. However, I've also gotta agree about that brass - in particular the first five or so seconds of it was pretty awkward, although it actually sounded better as that part went on. By the end, it had ceased to bother me as much. Overall, great stuff. -
OCR02345 - Mega Turrican "Turrimann"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
My favorite part has got to be that synth intro around 0:20 - very nice. Great, rockin' track from a game that I always wanted to play and never got around to - it's always wonderful to be able to get into a game that you've never touched through its music. And the Golden Axe part just made it all the better. Looking forward to your next piece! -
O_O This, right here? Has me more excited than you can imagine.

OCR01605 - Final Fantasy VI "Cyanide"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I really enjoy the ethnic, beautiful part that leads in at the beginning. I also enjoy the heavier rock section that shows up around the 1:15 mark. But they really don't feel to me as if they belong in the same song together - it doesn't feel like a whole. Whether that could be fixed with different transitions, or inclusion of some of the instruments from the original part in the rock part, I can't say, but as it stands now I would've actually liked to have seen it split into two separate songs along that break line. Would've been two excellent, stand-out songs that I would listen to on a daily basis; as it is, I feel like it's just a good track. But I'm sure that others would disagree with me. -
OCR02229 - Final Fantasy V "In the Shadows"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Same here. This is definitely one of Mattias' quirkier pieces, in my opinion; and it really does its job and bring to mind the image of a thief sneaking along somewhere, tiptoeing down a castle hallway behind a tapestry past a sleeping guard. Really can't find anything negative to say about it; the various parts work well together and form an interesting, unique whole. Highly recommend giving it several listens, if you haven't already. -
OCR00390 - Zanac "Mode7 Medley"

Agreed - I too would love to hear it with updated samples, because I actually rather enjoyed the arrangement itself. -
That would be awesome.

Wow. I don't know how I missed this when it first got posted, but as a big fan of orchestral arrangements, all I have to say is... hot damn. A truly epic track, that does an excellent job of conveying emotion and moving from section to section. I can definitely second the statement in the write-up that it makes you think of the soundtrack to a major, ancient period piece. The brass, in particular, felt written extremely well. Big thumbs up Moseph - .

OCR00503 - Lufia & The Fortress of Doom "Fear and Courage"
Melbu Frahma replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Enjoyed this song riiiight up until the guitar came in, and then... ow. Just ow. The arrangement itself is actually really good, though; particularly the first half is great listenin'. But that guitar really shows its age. -
OCR02193 - Pokémon Gold Version "Argent Vexemon"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
TO took an amazing source and made it even more badass than it already was - this is easily among my top five from the album. Great moment when that groove comes in around the :54 second mark, and the eerie, high melody that hits at 1:21 is a perfect (IMO) counterpoint to it. Really, there's nothing I can think of to say negatively about this piece; it definitely has a permanent place on my "favorites" playlist. EDIT: Also, fun thing I just noticed. In this thread, it's listed as being Pokémon Gold Version, but on the ReMix detail page it's Pokémon Silver Version. (And yes, I'm aware they have the same music and really the track is from both. Just found it interesting.) -
I abso-friggin'-lutely love the intro to this piece; it really chills the piece down and sets the mood for what's to follow. Or at least it seems to, until it really gets going 40(ish) seconds later, at which point I, at least, got completely caught off guard. Really unique track, great for a listen when you're feeling dark, energetic music. Great stuff, Flex. More please!

OCR02149 - Final Fantasy V "Little Black Book"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Definitely has the Darkesword trademark all over it, and in a very good way; it has the perfect amount of darkness in tone without making it sound like a bad guy's theme, fitting the theme for a Black Mage just right. It does skirt close to being repetitive at one or two points, but doesn't go over the line by a long shot. Great use of the piano, too. I will admit, this one actually took some listening for me, because at first I felt sort of "meh" toward it, but it really grew on me and has become one of my favorites from the album. Great stuff, as always. -
December is OCR Reviews Month! SAVE OCR!

Actually, that sounds perfect to me, although I already know I can't do at least one of the lesser-reviewed pieces, 'Edge of Valor', since I did it when it first came out. OCR00390 - Zanac "Mode7 Medley"
Melbu Frahma replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Gotta echo the previous comments about the samples, although most of them didn't bother me TOO badly on an individual basis; it was more the effect of their age across the board that got to me. Loved the little fade out - fade in move around the 2:30 mark, but not so much the fade to silence move around 2:50. Overall though, pretty good arrangement. -
OCRA-0030 - BadAss: Boss Themes
Melbu Frahma replied to Liontamer's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Did you count both members of the Dual Dragons? Also, congrats on an awesome 30th album, OCR. -
This is one of the albums I've been keeping an eye on, waiting for it to come out. I'm stoked that it's finally (almost) here! Congrats to all, I can't wait to hear what you've done with the themes!
-
Did. All it does is tell me that there's a problem with them being unknown file formats. EDIT: Lol. I figured it out - you can close the topic. Thanks!

I apologize ahead of time if there's already a thread somewhere on this, but I didn't find one if there is. With a lot of the older albums - for instance, Chrono Symphonic - when I download the mp3s and try to play them in Windows Media Player, it says it can't run it because "there's a problem with the file." Do I need to convert the file or something? What can I do to fix this issue? None of the newer albums from Thieves of Fate onward have this problem for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

PETA says new Mario promotes wearing fur

*facepalm* I pointed this very thing out to a friend. Apparently, turtles aren't cute enough/equal to tanookis. -
Exciting - there's already some great games on that list, and dozens more in the Game Boy library! Best of luck, guys.

OCR02310 - Legend of Dragoon "Deadbeat"
Melbu Frahma replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I am SO stoked to see Legend of Dragoon getting some love on here at last, and even more so to see it being from one of my favorite songs from the game. Great job with the song - it's definitely going on many of my playlists, even if - to quote Gadrius - it diverges from the original song's mood. But hey, that transformative aspect is one of the greatest things about OCR. -
^ This would make my week. Or month, to be honest.

A great piece as always, Blue Magic. Love the funk - I actually caught myself sub-consciously starting to move to it in my chair. I think the only big thing I noticed was that the last instrument that came in needed some work; it just didn't sound... right, I guess is the closest I can come to it. Maybe too mechanical, if I had to try to quantify "right." Other than that, I'll be watching to see how the expanded version turns out!

[POSSIBLE SPOILER] My sneaking suspicion is that Jon was "killed" but isn't permanently dead. After all, remember all that went through Varamyr's mind at the beginning of the book, and there's been plenty of hinting that Jon is a warg like Varamyr, so... maybe this just serves as the catalyst that fully brings him to awareness of his abilities? [END SPOILER] At any rate, though, Dance was extremely good, and just as unpredictable as ever - about the only thing I saw coming extremely far in advance was young Martel's fate. Now to await the next book, and hope the wait isn't as long.

^ this. Can't believe I didn't think to post that here myself. But seriously, that's messed up - disgusting behavior on the part of The Escapist. Chin up guys - your viewers are behind you.
