  1. Massive improvement with the Oboe interplay! I commented on Soundcloud about the kick sample - it seems out of place in the mix. Try something a little cleaner with a higher pitch to it - something "zappy" might work well. It sounds like you've got the hi-cut filter set too low at the moment and it's really muffled (probably intentional), but it doesn't work in the mix unless you open that filter up for the next section (when the chimes hit) really. I also think you should work on the humanisation aspect of the sax and oboe now if you want a shot at passing the judges. The mix is good as it is, but it has to have that extra TLC if you want a shot at passing the panel! Maybe try asking in the recruitment section if a saxophonist wants to play some parts live? Might work!
  2. Hi there, I don't know about "lots and lots", but I'll give you some feedback at least! Well, the synth sounds you've chosen are very simple, so they don't sound all too different from the game boy. I'd suggest adding some more variety with phasing, chorus, or simply more advanced sounds. The tempo feels a bit slower than the original, so try and make up for that with more interesting sound design. Also, there's no percussion! Even if you just add some chiptune-style white noise hits as a kind of rolling-snare to fit with the "processional" feeling of the song, I feel that would add a lot to it.
  3. I love this source, and I also like the idea of an uplifting orchestral style with a piano lead, however I think your samples are letting you down. It seems like you've had to add a fair bit of reverb, especially to the piano and strings, and that's pushing it back in the mix and making it sound muddy. I enjoyed the soloing even if the other sources weren't too clear to me, so I don't think the arrangement is too bad, just work on cleaning up some of the muddiness if you can, and maybe try varying some of the lead sounds during the solo - that clarinet(?) thing gets a bit old by the end, it'd be nice to have some interplay between 2 different instruments. Good start, keep working on it
  4. Hey! So, you're a fan of Rare then I take it? Glad you've decided to take the plunge and register! I'm listening to your remix now - I started out on Garageband and recognise a lot of these sounds! Garageband's great for arranging and getting ideas down quickly, but sadly lacking in production options. Keep practicing and improving though and you'll do well - sounds way better than my stuff used to
  5. Congratulations! Seeing the title reminded me of this remix I made that I then forgot about... it's the ending theme from Mario 2, intended as a lullaby. I must go back and finish this off at some point! http://tindeck.com/listen/ugtc
  6. Hi Alex, welcome to OCR I had a listen to some of your remixes, and they're pretty cool. I think they are a bit too much like covers to get onto ocremix as they are though. The idea of OCR is to take a piece of video game music and reinvent it. It has to sound like the original, but have some of your own style in it as well. If you're still new to the site, just have a listen to some remixes from games you have played, and see what people have done to those to get them posted on here. Good luck!
  7. Very creative remix of the source! You've managed to stretch out the whole thing into a beautifully mellow piece that's really relaxing. I can just imagine sitting on a bea- DELELELELELELE! Wild ZUBAT appeared! Congratulations on getting posted after all these years!
  8. Monstrous Turtles is one of my all-time favourite OCReMixes, but this stands up there alongside that track, so great job on that. I always feel like if you remix a source that's already been remixed it's a risk to be compared to others, but this is superb. No problems with the reverb and compression - they're staples of the genre, and I agree with Melbu that I'd probably enjoy it less if it didn't have as much. Congratulations on your first mixpost, and let's hope there are more like this!
  9. Allister Brimble himself! Welcome to OCR! I know I grew up listening to many of your Amiga compositions, and I've started a couple of remixes of your tunes already... I'll have to dig up the project files and get cracking. Do you have a definitive list of games you composed the soundtracks for? I found this list of all your credited games, but just so people don't accidentally remix something you didn't actually write (or wasn't an original - such as Arcade Pool), could you mention which games we can use? Hope the kickstarter succeeds!
  10. Ohh dude that drop at 1:15 and the following section is just insane - love it! Not much of an issue with the bass for me, although YouTube's encoding isn't the best - you got a link to a soundcloud or tindeck upload? I think the weakest part of this remix is the lead choice for the main melody - it's just not working for me somehow. It seems to lack energy compared to the rest of the mix, could be the levels of detune on it, but personally I'd go for something a bit more "squeaky" with a lot of cutoff modulation. Choosing leads is hard Pretty sick stuff though, very nice!
  11. Only on track 3 but it's definitely a keeper. Nice work sci
  12. The intro to this song reminds me a lot of from Super Mario World
  13. In the Game of Tunes, you Judge or YOU DIE! Nicely done my good man, may your reign be long and prosperous!
  14. Great to see you posted CJ! You've always toed a fine line with your synth styles, often falling just short, but personally I enjoy the retro feel of your tracks immensely, and definitely agree with Larry's points about the MOD-sounding parts. I also love that you remix the most obscure sources, so kudos for remixing a game I've never heard of! I did play Bubsy though, so I think I'll have a listen to that soundtrack now
  15. Finally got round to listening to this one! The DKR soundtrack is one I listen to quite often simply for pleasure, because it's that good. It's so nice to see Guifrog tackling these complex pieces with such enthusiasm and vigour, but reading his posts and submission emails, I get the feeling that it's a consequence and expression of his personality, and that shines through every one of his mixes. Purely joyful!
  16. Yeah this would be a really useful thing to have, especially if it could be integrated on the remix pages so you could have a link to the original source by the side of the youtube preview, if the chiptune is available. Would also be handy for WIP threads to quickly compare source usage. Nice work, Mike
  17. http://soundcloud.com/darksim/the-way-you-kiss-me-darksim Love the intro to this track by Example, but I felt it needed to get going a bit more. I gave it some extra energy
  18. I wish he had better quality recordings of these, but yeah I'd love him to try submitting something! PS. Awesome sig for boss month Chernabogue
  19. Can't go wrong with the DKC soundtrack, can you? This is fantastic, and I do appreciate a nice solo piano piece. Any chance you can do some more DKC in this style?
  20. I like it, but it's more of a cover - try adding your own variations on the theme to make it stand out. Add in an original breakdown or something as a starting point and go from there.
  21. What a pleasant surprise! I love the source tune, familiar as I was with the version from Digger T Rock, Cavern 6, rather than the Battletoads version (both David Wise, both very similar themes). This is a really slick and "chilled" (hohoho) remix, with some really nice beat textures and smooth synths. More David Wise remixes please!
  22. Pretty cool man! Nothing jumps out at me at being too bad to sub, I like the snare rolls and dramatic percussion. The instrumentation is your typical oldskool style, although it seems to work much better in this remix than it has in your previous ones. The tempo change transition could maybe be a little smoother, but other than that it's solid stuff!
  23. Yeah man, still up for the project!
