  1. Hey dude, been busy at work but hopefully gonna get back into making some music in the coming weeks! Following you on soundcloud as well so keep on making stuff :)

  2. Ooooh yes BP - Congrats on the 2nd mixpost, and I love this track! Never heard the source or played the game, so I can't comment on that side of it, but based on what I'm hearing I approve! If it was me, I'd probably have extended the length a bit with a half-tempo section in there just to break up the pace a little, and maybe help with a final drop, but that doesn't take anything away from this arrangement you have here.
  3. Hey Rozo had a birthday? Well, congratulations on that! And thanks for being awesome on the WIP boards.
  4. I remember hearing this when you posted it up on IRC. Thankfully, that memory can be recreated by listening to this piece again! Beautiful stuff
  5. Heard this one a lot now and it's really grown on me. Excellent stuff
  6. Very nice changes to this - it's very intricate and technical. Beautiful guitar, and that piano's not bad either. The strings at the end are a little quiet, maybe I could help you with that. I know you said it was "too epic", but cmon... I reckon it needs a nice, warm string backing for a little bit See what others think, eh? Definitely evokes the JFG feel, and OCR desperately needs that game represented!
  7. Hey I really like this! The drums sound great, and it's pretty nicely balanced. The bass could maybe be a little more aggressive, although perhaps that's my headphones. Great start though
  8. I don't often post originals, but when I do... http://soundcloud.com/darksim/epilepsy-pt-i http://soundcloud.com/darksim/epilepsy-pt-ii Thoughts and feedback are welcome!
  9. Bought it as soon as it came out, and it's one of the highest quality albums I've listened to for years. The tracks are consistently good throughout the whole album (and for 75 minutes that's no mean feat), and despite so many collabs, it still feels cohesive. The title's also perfect - these songs infect my brain and distort my memory to make me think I've heard them before, when it's just the magic of chiptunes
  10. Wow, what a difference! You're right - this is close! The only issue I have now is with the trancey second half - the snare and synth seem a little far back in the mix. The guitar's nice and prominent, but it feels like there's too much space between all the parts. This is especially prevalent when the original melody returns. For me, that guitar's too exposed and needs to sit better. I do like the transition, but feel the rhythm guitar and synth could again be more prominent/louder. So really, it's just a few tweaks to the balance that need to be made. Really enjoying this mix, nice work!
  11. Big fan of the source ( ), and it suits an upbeat, chippy arrangement.Unfortunately, your production has a way to go before this is OCR standard. This mix feels like everything's in the mids, and it doesn't really have much stereo or frequency dynamics to it. Everything's just in the middle! I appreciate that you've made the synths from scratch, and they sound OK, but they're overlapping in frequency, and the drums don't really have much of a presence either. Try and separate things using both EQ and panning, and make those synths more unique and interesting. The long chords particularly become quite grating after a while. You've got some really nice syncopation and effects in there, but they're masked too much as it is. Give each track room to breathe, and then you'll be able to expand on the sounds you have that make up the song as a whole.
  12. I was enjoying this, but then the solo came in and the source really hit me. Love that part! With some chippy goodness to reinforce the source all over the track, I'm sure it'll sound even better. 1 small thing on the lyrics, site to behold = sight to behold /grammarnazi
  13. Finally got round to listening to the album, and this track jumps out at me more than most. Maybe it's the vocals, maybe it's the groove, but it just works so well together I'm blown away! Definitely feeling the Zapp & Roger vibe. Looking forward to more stuff like this. Such a damn smooth and distinctly 80s solo in the middle as well... I can picture the washed-out cameras and disco balls on Top of the Pops during this bit, then BAM back to the present in the verse. Top drawer.
  14. Cool track so far, one of my favourite sources ever! Seems a bit conservative still, so maybe have the sax and guitar come in at the end for some Pink Floyd style solo-off as the track fades out for 7 minutes. Will have another listen once you've got the live parts recorded!
  15. Hey Guifrog, just a small suggestion for you now - how about some timpani in the final chorus? Some rolls and dramatic "bom-bom-a-bom" would be perfect. I feel like the final chorus needs to have a bit extra oomph, and that might just push it over the edge. Try it!
  16. Oooh like it! My only real complaint now is the glockenspiel at the start sounds like there's too much noise getting into the nice sound - either it's being hit too hard or there's something turned too high like resonance. Doesn't sound as pure as I think it should, see what you think though. Otherwise it's magnificent
  17. Just put a WIP up over here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36786 Mizar's Palace techno!
  18. So a lot of people have been wanting something from JFG remixing, and I love the game, so I decided to try some techno. Remix Any thoughts/criticisms appreciated!
  19. Mmm, this one's absolutely beautiful! I love the SMG soundtrack, and this really does it some justice. Some suggestions for you though: When the strings play, the stereo field feels too left-heavy, maybe the strings are panned too much, or something needs to move to the right more. The glockenspiel sounds a little too exposed at 2:12. Only a little, so maybe dial back on the velocity or add a bit extra reverb. Really nice track, good luck with the sub
  20. Thanks for the overwhelmingly positive response everyone! More golfing puns please... The write-ups do make me laugh as well, the judges have an uncanny knack of getting right to the crux of the remix. DJP's comments on the "unusual mix of old and new styles" I found particularly amusing, as it wasn't a stylistic choice at all, just a product of me not knowing any better! Glad it worked out anyway. For those wondering about the bass, I think it's a mix of phasing, flanging and some tastefully and sparingly-applied glitch effects. LuIzA, you got a link for your remix of this? I'd love to hear it!
  21. Interesting thread. I've often pondered whether I'd remix something from a game I haven't played, and as of yet I haven't. I just don't feel the need to, especially since I have such a wealth of gaming experience and I've played so many games that don't even have 1 remix on the site to their name. In fact, the 3 tracks I've had accepted are all from previously unremixed sources, so it's a source of extra pride for me if I manage to get a new game into OCR's spotlight. Saying that, though, the soundtracks for more popular games such as the DKC series have always been special to me, so I'll be attempting remixes from those. In response to Will's original question, I think the answer is I don't remix music from games I haven't played because there's no 'nostalgia factor' there. I think this would only change if I heard a particularly inspiring source and had an idea for a unique remix, or perhaps if I was asked to contribute to a project. Even then though, project mixes can be hell if you're not emotionally invested in the game.
  22. Holy crap dude, those were so hard to get gold on. Respect for this one! Things I've done but won't ever do again are the GTA IV "Liberty City Minute" achievement - blazed through the game in about 8 hours, or was it 6? I don't care, I got the G's for that. CoD 4 - The epilogue in the plane. 1 minute is such a hard time, although it was actually the most fun level on veteran. The others were just pointlessly and annoyingly hard for the sake of it, and not in a challenging way either. It was just a race to checkpoints, no fun at all. Same for all CoD games on veteran, really. Silver PP7 cheat on GoldenEye - Hardest cheat to earn by far, and it's not even really worth it, apart from the sense of completion. Train, 00 agent, 5:25 if you're wondering. I still remember... Caught 'em all in Generation 1 and all I got was that lousy certificate.
  23. Hey there, thought I'd give this a listen as I always enjoy hearing Pokémon remixes! This gets off to a nice moody start, but then the guitar comes in, and that tone is not working at all for me. Sounds like you're playing it in live, which is cool, but you need a bit of a warmer sound to it I think. I know that Lavender Town is depressing, but this isn't sad, it's just a harsh sound. It also sounds pretty out of tune - definitely tune up and do it again. Nice unexpected transition in the middle, however that guitar comes back and has the same problems! The beat works as it is, although there's no harm in adding some more fills and snare builds, and there are some nice synth touches, but I can't get past that guitar. Try adding some countermelodies or some more original melody work, and I wouldn't rule out swapping the guitar for a synth if you still can't get it to sound right. There's a decent track in here somewhere, just fix that guitar and see what it sounds like after that!
  24. Aaaah CJ vocals! Great retro feel to this one, firmly tongue-in-cheek lyrics work with the style, nice cohesive sound to it and good arrangement. I'll have a listen on headphones later to see if there's anything production wise, but overall I like it a lot. Definitely got a Weird Al type thing going on!
