  1. um .. I'm not familiar with the source, is there a link? jk.. How's this going? I googled "kingtiger mario" right now, because this was one of the first mixes I listened to when I first joined the site. I have to echo previous comments about the 'refreshing take' because this theme is so iconic. The question is "how do you really make a remix of this and have it stand out" and I think you did a really good job with it. I love really creative mixes that make something completely new. good job yo.
  2. haha Base of Ace? Is that a thing? I meant Korean singer BoA .. My melody line right now sounds like a sped up version of one of her ballads that I remember from long ago ..
  3. I just saw on the drunk thread .. you playz the Starcrafts too? I haven't touched it in months but I'm a fan .. however, I suck at Starcraft almost as much as I suck at making myoozik! pretty parallel too, buy nice equipment = no progression whatsoever :lmassoff:

  4. I think he was talking about the snare glitch which was still there even at the end of the 6.21 edit .. but it's nowhere to be found in the 7.17 edit so yer all good
  5. I saw this last week and decided to try something .. I worked on a melody and thought "why does this sound like it fits so good" and I realized it sounds very much like a song by BoA haa ha .. and I'm not creative enough to change it so, BoA it is. glhf
  6. Well I have only played that one game, a while ago .. I'm definitely open to trying out these other games.
  7. I guess I'll offer a different angle .. I've looked through all of the games listed here and the only one I've played is Star Ocean 3. And--unfortunately--I don't remember any of the music really .. It was a while ago and I even kind of remember thinking "this music isn't very memorable" (I think it was the battle music). Based on what I've seen in this thread, I fully accept that this is more a testament to my bad memory rather than to his music .. Thus I conclude: I am bad. And I feel bad.
  8. I said my praise during the competition .. I think it sounds great and I love the arrangement. Hopefully the more experienced ReMixers out there see this and give some feedback. Good luck! [P.S. nice Hans Zimmer remix as well!]
  9. It was nice hearing your ReMix in the FF6 Update #5 video. That's pretty neat .

  10. At first I was like "deng it's long ya right I'm gonna listen to the whole thing, and I'm not even familiar with the source track" .. but then I listened and listened some more and then I heard a nice significant change in the ambience and drums and I looked at the vid and it was already past 5 minutes! Apologies for the run-on sentence .. Then I accidentally clicked out of the youtube preview tab so I quickly remedied it by downloading. Nice mix yo.
  11. Not sure if it's just me but the video was buggin out .. It would cut out then start from the beginning and then completely freeze at random parts .. From what I've heard it sounds great. If the dev likes it, that's awesome because that's the point. But for me I kind of felt that the feel of it should be faster since it's a racing game. Maybe with SFX it would sound different.. Towards the middle, it sounds ambient, and from a music standpoint it sounds good, but I'd think that music for a racing game would be consistently loud and fast throughout. Sounds good though keep it up.
  12. Thanks. It's for a "Norse-mythology & Viking themed casual role-playing game for iOS." I should've clarified that it's actually for a contest at audiodraft. I'll link in the OP. I wasn't really trying to win, I just saw it as an excuse to write an orchestral track and a way to hopefully improve my skills as far as arranging and mixing. Slowly but surely .
  13. This is a wip Orchestral Theme for a mobile RPG. It's for a contest at audiodraft. The contest brief states "We need a musical theme that makes the player want to crush their enemies with a huge hammer for a Norse influenced Role-playing game for mobile." Drive of the Corsair
  14. Meh you can't please everyone all of the time. Some people will say "gross this sounds like nothing like the original" while others will say "gross this sounds too much like the original." Some people just like complaining. Some of my favorite ReMixes are the ones that take the source and creatively change the genre and style into something new and different; others may not agree. But as derako said, the proof is in the numbers. "OCR is an organization dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of video game music as an art form." The goal is to pay tribute to VGM composers and VGM as a whole and there are many people who recognize that and want to support it.
  15. I have a story. I didn't get much sleep last night; I typically have trouble sleeping in general. Lately, I've been listening to VGM or VG-related music at work. I was listening to halc on bandcamp at work but the cheap speakers doesn't do any music any justice ever. So I get home, and play his music again on my laptop. The weather is flipn hot and my room doesn't have much ventilation.. Sorry if this story is weird or irrelvant .. But anyway, I was listening to "pixel perfect complete" and some of the tracks are so beautifully chill that I literally just drifted to sleep .. I sincerely hope no one takes this the wrong way, like "this music put me to sleep," but I was just so tired and this music was so chill and awesome. I saw that earlier today only 7 physical copies were left, then a few minutes ago there were only 4, so I decided to buy one to support halc. NICE WORK
  16. My Remix: http://soundcloud.com/drumj8/little-white-doves-by-dirty Original: I have a lot to learn NOW, and I made this LAST YEAR, so ... my point is, I've a long road ahead of me .. "Little White Doves" is a single by "British house music trio" Dirty Vegas who some may remember for their 2001 song "Days Go By." I call this a "work-in-progress" because it's definitely not finished and needs to be polished but in reality, I probably won't touch it again .. I made it last year for a contest using the computer at my school which had a bunch of things that I don't have now, but I'd definitely be open to hearing any feedback for future reference. It was fun; I believe it was my first attempt at a "remix" ever. Listen or not, feedback or not, thanks for reading
  17. I'm not familiar with the game or music but I like the way this sounds
  18. I checked it out this morning and thought it was pretty good. It was good enough to keep my attention and I didn't want to turn it off and move onto something else, which for me, says a lot. I'll check out the other episodes too. Nice work
  19. I didn't go through the 18 pages of comments for this, so apologies if I echo the exact same things .. This mix, is amazing. Zelda's Lullaby is so beautifully intertwined and dat-chord-progression is fkn gorgeous.. It tugs at my heartstrings, it's downright emotional. I guess I had a similar reaction upon hearing that Rose of May ReMix by katethegreat19, just beautiful. gargle bargle, I'm listening to it now and I'm getting goosebumps .. djpretzel knows his stuff.
  20. I listened to this a little while ago, and I guess I was unsure then of whether I liked or not since I decided not to comment on it here. But upon listening to it again today, I LOVE it. I love the source track; it's one of my favorites from Nobuo Uematsu and djpretzel really shows off his talent here. I wish I had his boldness to take on a genre that I don't have a lot of experience in, and make it sound awesome. Nice work
  21. Man, whoever "Standby" was, they only made two ReMixes but they're darn good solid ones, and from 2002 nonetheless. Whatever they're doing now, I hope it's music related. This is pretty close to the source track but it is still done very well. There are little variations here and there that keep it interesting.
  22. coool. I like the high energy. It'd be interesting to hear a little more variation, maybe in the drums or the main repeating phrase, but still thoroughly enjoyable for me.
  23. I was listening to She & Him while driving down from NorCal to SoCal with my gf at the time. It's like the perfect happy summer music, except when I think of it, I don't really remember a 6 hour car ride; it's more like a 30 second Old Navy summer attire commercial that runs in my head. I can see/hear it now ...
  24. Nice rhythms here. I actually like the source track for this; I felt it captured the feel of "exploring the map" well. This is a really nice take on it. Downloaded.
  25. I think the range is so widespread that the "average" would be hard to pinpoint. I know many composers get paid per minute of music delivered. An old teacher of mine said he got paid like $200 per minute of music that he wrote for a game, and that's considered "low." If you deliver 5 full minutes of music at $200/min, that's a decent chunk of change (at least EYE think so), unless you're doing a project of that size only once every 6 months. Big time composers for AAA titles could potentially make, e.g. $600 per minute of music delivered, and in a big game that requires over 100 minutes of music, that's a lotta money. Not to mention because they're already writing for a big title, they've proven at that point that they do good work, are reliable and responsible, so that reputation will garner similar projects of that caliber. If a composer wrote music for one big game in 1985, they probably moved on to other stuff; I highly doubt they're still living off the money earned from it.
