Sweet, people got the joke in the title. That Joystiq article doesn't really do a good job of explaining what's at work here. Here's a better link (the source for the Joystiq article itself): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190547

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/u-r-mr-gay-message-discovered-in-super-mario-galaxy-box-art/ So, we all know this is probably a coincidence. But whatever. It's still kind of funny?

sgx and zircon TRIPLE threat CD deal - $15 = 3 albums
Steben replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
So, I've had my copy of Antigravity for about a month now, and tonight's the first time I've really had to sit down and listen to it. Okay, so tonight's the first time I've bothered to. Y'know. Whatever. In any case, it's a lot of fun. Thanks Zircon, I've decided it's the perfect soundtrack to studying elementary Spanish and watching coverage of O.J. Simpson on CNN. And I'm sure many other activities too. -
Actually, I'd think it'd be pretty funny if Snake had a cigarette, but Kirby got a lollypop when he copied his abilities.

Yep. Incredibly obscure. I had actually found that article, but apparently the rest of the world didn't care about it. Actually, if you view an archived version of pokemon.com from Summer 2000, you see a reference to it and a link, but I think the actual contest was done via Flash, so it's not archived. Thanks for your help, though.

So, this is a stretch, but. Does anybody remember anything about a fantasy Pokémon league that Nintendo put on seven years ago, in the summer of 2000? I believe it was put on to promote the release of the first Pokémon Stadium game. If anyone has a link to perhaps some sort of article covering it, or has a suggestion on where to look, that'd be great. I'm currently researching obscure fantasy sports leagues, and wanted to add it to my list.

The fact that this show was canceled so soon is one of the greatest tragedies mankind has had to deal with in recent millennia.

Some sort of security deposit could be required. That way if someone loses a game or whatever, the deposit is given to the person who loaned the game. What I'd be worried about is what happens when the postal service screws up, and then both parties accuse the other of lying when the receiver claims he never got his game.

While I'm not a ReMixer, I dabble in instrumental arrangement, and a lot of times I do vg stuff. All that to say, I might pay the $15 for a OCR blog. At the least, it'd be a nice way to give to the site, since the last time I contributed was when I bought an OCR shirt back in 2004.

I think watching that music would be weird without all the LOTR movie themes.

Kentucky Fried Cruelty (aka SMB Peta version)

It'd also be irony if this game raised KFC's sales by putting people in the mood for some Kentucky Fried Goodness. Which seems to be the case for me. -
Super Mario Bros. for 5-part trombone ensemble
Steben replied to Steben's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm aware that this won't be OCR-quality. Maybe if I get a good recording I can put it on VGmix (if it ever returns). Alternately, I'll need to put a lot more effort into it and cut out more of the beginning, unarranged stuff, and replace it with more original material. The problem arises when you consider that this will get next-to-no-rehearsal-time, since it's for an unofficial performance, and we can only commit so much sectional time to it. EDIT: This isn't a huge enough update to warrant a double-post. However, I worked on it this afternoon. I probably spent more time taking stuff out than adding anyway. http://www.auburn.edu/~clontsc/smb_2.mp3 -
sgx and zircon TRIPLE threat CD deal - $15 = 3 albums
Steben replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Boo-hss. I already bought Antigravity for $5. If I want this deal, I'll have to find another CD to be my third. Either that, or make more friends who enjoy electronica and/or OCR and give one as a present. -
This is something I'm whipping up for the Auburn University trombone section. At every home football game we have a chance to, we hold a "trombone show" in the school amphitheater. Basically, it's just a chance for us to warm up and play a few school tunes before our real performances in the football stadium. However, this year we're actually gonna have a few original tunes to play for the show. And, while no one in my section knows about it yet, I've got an arrangement of my own that I'm working on. Yeah, it's the Super Mario theme we know and love. http://www.auburn.edu/~clontsc/smb.mp3 <- this is an MP3 recording of the Finale score. The first 40 seconds or so is a nearly exact transcript of the Mario theme (transposed to b-flat), with repeated parts taken out, and the baseline brought up an octave so it's, y'know, playable on trombone. That's really just there to get drunk people's attention. The fun begins at 0:40, where I've actually written some original stuff. FYI, at 1:14, a first trombone plays the first measure alone, to which a second trombone replies with the second measure, and then the whole section comes back in on the third measure. The stuff from 1:20 on is just filler for the moment. That's the basic melody I want to cover at the end of the piece, but I'll do something more interesting with it later. What do you guys think? I hope to get an actual recording of this. It should be easier to swing than, say, my Katamari on the Rocks arrangement, since I only need my own section to perform it. This could even be done by a trombone quintet. Also, it's a lot more recognizable than Katamari Damacy, so I can get some support to get it recorded a lot easier, I hope. I'll probably post the score and parts to this piece once it's finished on my website.

So, all this talk of the Subspace Emissary. Am I the only one who's getting flashbacks of Super Mario Bros. 2/USA? I know this is totally not likely. But. I think it'd be pretty cool if at the ending of the Subspace Emissary adventure mode, we find out that Wart is behind the Ancient Minister's plots. He's tired of always being overlooked over the past two decades, while Bowser gets all the credit. Hey, until December, I can dream, right?

I remember this! I remember wanting to share this funny story with people, but then realizing that none of my other friends knew who djp was in the first place. Oh, my poor sad high school years.

I'm disappointed with this thread. I thought we were gonna be talking about all the fun Google tools, like Google Reader, and Google Bookmarks, and Google Documents, etc. etc.

DCI: Drum Corp international championships
Steben replied to HershDawg's topic in General Discussion
I haven't kept up with DCI for the past two years. I typically like the shows that use material that I'm already familiar with (like the 2005? Cavies 007 show). But I usually fall asleep during a lot of the original shows (like the 2004? Cavies show that was about a fire or something). -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8cjscUMERU 'Found it on YouTube in case anyone else doesn't feel like downloading it. That was a fun video. I'm curious to see how many of those glitches can be reproduced by hand, though. That duck-jump deal probably at least needs some sort of turbo controller... -
Actually, I thought it was funny. I think a parody of a Charlie Brown cartoon in an anime style would be hilarious. Imagine Lucy pulling the football from under Charlie Brown.

Agreed. Of course, yellow needn't be included as it was actually released later. But, I also recognize it's not a huge enough deal to warrant making a fuss about it. If you're looking for a mix from Pokemon Blue, you'll find Pokemon Red. But looking into the future, you'd run into similar problems with Silver/Gold, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, and other multicolor games. Which of those came first? Sorry, I just thought I'd try out this jdgfgtdatabase hate. Or something. How'd I do?

The arrangement of Katamari on the Rocks I did for marching band (with Rainman DX's help with percussion) is pretty close to the original. Pretty much all of the stuff I've done could be considered transcription, with the exception of a pep band piece I wrote once that took the Water level music from Sonic Rush and gave it a "Louie Louie" vibe. I really need to get back into that game, but I haven't done anything since I arranged Snakes on a Plane for marching band back last January.
