http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155540-KSC75-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_11 For general listening, I highly reccomend these. Yes, I know they're only $17, but they really are great headphones, and they're one of the best pairs I have. If nothing else, for this cheap, it's worth it to just give them a listen. I've done some mixing on them and they seem to work ok, but I usually go back to my monitors when I'm doing anything serious, so take that as you will.

Game music that resembles mainstream music (or vice versa)...
AMT replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
It's funny you mention Elec-man, because it always reminded me of Between Angels and Insects by Papa Roach. Obviously Journey and Megaman 1 came before that, but there's still definitely a similarity. -
It's had one as long as I've been using it, so at least a year or so.

The Most Annoying Song Ever (Scientifically)
AMT replied to chumble spuzz's topic in General Discussion
As soon as I can deduce which part I was laughing the hardest at this will become my new ringtone. Parts of this sound like Cheap Cheap the Chicken from Parappa the Rapper rapping to Earthbound music, and that's actually not a bad thing. -
It's not OCR quality, but I did do a remix of "The Hard Corps" and "GTR Attack!", it's up on VGMix here: http://www.vgmix.com/members/252/audio.php

Metal Gear Ac!d + Chrono Trigger + <More to come>
AMT replied to Barium's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is really cool so far. I'd say the synth that comes in with World Revolution is a little bit loud, and that you could bring out some of the bassline a little bit more there. Samples all around could use work, but that's hard when you're working off of free samples. Some of the trumpet notes sound off, but I could be wrong on that. It could also use a real ending. Still, this is sounding really good, I'm looking forward to hearing more on it! -
We made a little square wave function generator with a 555 timer in my electrical engineering class, and attatched a little speaker to it to see how high of frequencies we could hear. Most people dropped out around 15-16kHz, but I made it up to 19.6. I'm not sure if it dropped out from there because of the speaker itself or my hearing, though.

Erm, those are all real guitars / bass... Uploaded a new version with some fixed (I hope) drums, thanks for listening!

Another update, worked on the intro, mixing, and the drums. Link is in the first post.

http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=airman1rq6.jpg This is an awesome song, the lyrics rock. The bridge at 2:40 is really well done, I absolutely love it. -

I've been working on this for a while, it's of the first and last levels of Megaman Zero 2. Please listen and leave feedback! http://myweb.cableone.net/rebelart/Zero2C.mp3 http://myweb.cableone.net/rebelart/Zero2Master.mp3 NEWEST VERSION: http://myweb.cableone.net/rebelart/Zero.mp3 Lots of tweaks to the mixing and overall sound, I redid the drums and I think they came out pretty well. Please listen and give feedback!

I have to say, compared to some of the other stuff I've seen people make in Game Maker, this isn't bad at all. It's actually decently polished and appears to work well in general. It's not amazing, but it looks enjoyable. Now I want to play some Megaman...

Morning Sun (new WIP) Sonic Adventure re-re-remix :D
AMT replied to AkumajoBelmont's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I can't give much technical advice on this, but I just thought I'd post and say that I absolutely love this song. I can't wait to hear the final version! -
That is quite possibly the most epic thing I've heard from an SNES (or emulation of an SNES); I love it, particularly the FF6 one. The Mario Kart one gives a real Megaman X vibe around 0:40, it's awesome.

Ailsean, YES! Yeah, I'd love to hear some new stuff as well.

Ok, the first 30 seconds is just noise, really. I can't make out anything except a few inklings of Green Brinstar. After that it picks up a bit and I really like the instrumentation, but it's really muddy. Try using a lowpass filter on some of that stuff. It kinda looses momentum after that, until the synth at 1:20ish picks up, which sounds pretty cool, but again, it's crazy muddy. Get rid of some instruments / pads that you don't need by that point. The more tracks you add, the harder it is to balance them, so keep it down to only a few and make the most out of those. The wierd piano section after that is pretty gross sounding, and I really can't make out much more after that except what sounds like someone looking for Spore Spawn in the biggest cave imaginable. The easiest way to learn to improve your mixing is probably going to be to pick a style and stick with it for a bit. Make as many songs in that style as it takes until you can get the mixing down pat, and you know what to listen for. Then start expanding it to incorporate different elements and the like. What works for trance could sound abysmal for orchestral or metal. Keep working on this, and maybe try and go for a more conventional style instead of trying to be really original. If you can get that down, then you can move on to more interesting stuff.

Saw this today and wow, I thought it was an amazing movie. The story wasn't anything amazing, but the presentation was fantastic, and there were some pretty awesome moments throughout. I highly reccomend it.
